EDIT: This car was sold. The new owner is a member of ZHPMafia.com. See here for details (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?1066-New-member-owner-Orange-County-CA-2003-Imola-Red-Rogue-ZHP).

I'm betting some of you may have seen this before. Since Rogue Eng. built it I'd assume it was done right. Looks like it has 45,000 on the conversion. Interesting choice for tire sizes when Rogue still had it....235/35 18's (track) and 235/35 19's (street) front and rear. Possibly a misprint and it was supposed to be 255/35 all the way around? The CL ad doesn't say what sizes are on it now. I wish I lived near him, might have to go and take a "test drive". :biggrin

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2092652918.html

Too bad he screwed up his posting of the links to the Bimmer article and didn't link the last page. Instead he double posted the 2nd to last page. EDIT: Last page of Bimmer article added from here.....

I'll C&P the ad in case it gets deleted.......

This 2003 E46 330i ZHP had 7400 miles when it went for a heart transplant at Rogue Engineering. A 1,800 mile E46 M3 S54 engine, complete with transmission and the entire rear end was installed with Rogue Engineering transmission mounts into this fully loaded ZHP. Not only does this ZHP have Navigation with Voice Control, 6 CD Harman Kardon Premium Sound System, Bluetooth Phone System, Aux Inputs for portable players, 3 Device Homelink System, Full Auto A/C with fine tune on vent, LED soft lighting, it also has, Lightweight package, Traction and stability control systems. (ASC+T and DSC), Suede seats: front power seats with 3 memory settings, E46 M3 steering wheel and E46 M3 instrument Cluster.

With great power, comes great responsibility, Rogue Engineering fitted this ZHP with Bilstein PSS9s coilovers and OEM BMW Motorsport Front strut brace to tame its power and yet keeping the car comfortable to drive on the street. Rogue Engineering also installed 355mm front GT 4-piston brake kit and 328mm rear Brembo GT 4-piston brake kit to slow the car with confidence. Rogue Engineering light weight flywheel was installed for faster throttle response. Rogue Engineering Octane short shifter kit was installed for more precise shifting and sportier feel. Rogue Engineering Power pulleys and Custom Rogue Engineering DMS exhaust were also installed to extract as much power from the stock S54 motor as possible.

Macht Schnell air filter was installed this past March. Valve adjustment was done 3 weeks ago, along with metric adjustable clutch stop kit. New Carbotech Bob cat pads were installed all the way around 2 weeks ago with oil, transmission, diff, and brake fluid change. All fluids are OEM except ATE clear racing brake fluid.

I am looking for $25,000 for her. I will also include a box of brand new Carbotech xp10 racing pads, new OEM fuel filter, a case (12 = 2 oil changes) OEM oil and oil filter. She is about 52,600 miles.

Here is a list to sum up the 2003 333+HP 330i ZHP:

1. Navigation with voice control
2. 6 CD Harman Kardon premium sound system
3. Bluetooth
4. Aux inputs for portable players
5. 3 device Homelink system
6. Full Auto A/C with fine tune on vent
7. LED soft lighting
8. Lightweight package
9. Traction and stability control systems. (ASC+T and DSC)
10. Suede seats: front power seats with 3 memory settings.
11. E46 M3 steering wheel and E46 M3 instrument Cluster.
12. Bilstein PSS9s coilovers
13. OEM BMW Motorsport Front strut brace were installed
14. 355mm front GT 4-piston brake kit
15. 328mm rear Brembo GT 4-piston brake kit
16. Rogue Engineering light weight flywheel
17. Rogue Engineering Octane short shifter kit
18. Rogue Engineering Power pullies
19. Custom Rogue Engineering DMS exhaust
20. Rogue Engineering Transmission mounts
21. Macht Schnell air filter
22. Clear corner lenses
23. Metric adjustable clutch stop kit

This is the world famous one and only 4 door E46 M3 recognized by the BMW community:

That was my thinking, too, Dane. It is a ZHP. But apparently it was made to look exactly how a 4-door M3 would have looked.

I have that issue of Bimmer! I remember after rreading that article I wanted a ZHP

And ever since I bought mine I wanted it with an S54 :)

12-17-2010, 08:26 PM
HOLY CRAP. That is DIRT CHEAP for an S54 swapped ZHP! Some people are paying close to that for pristine stock ZHP's, but one with an S54... holy bejeebies.
I cannot believe it isn't sold already.

The only reason I am not calling USAA today about this car is the maintenance cost associated with maintaining this car.

Marcus-SanDiego

I am a member of USAA also. I won't be calling them either. I'm not made of money. These kinds of cars scare me. I can see lots of shop time for this.

gr330zhp
12-18-2010, 08:49 AM
Oh come on guys the S54 is extremely reliable for the kind of performance it provides :)

333hp, 8k rpm, ///M Differential and naturally aspirated. Valve adjustments arent that bad, most people do em every 30-50k miles. We did it at 30k and 60k miles on ours, and it really didnt need it. The car was rock solid from high teen miles to the ~80k when it was traded. And lets just say it saw redline often as well :)

My $0.02

I would rather put a header and twin screw supercharger on the motor I have now than to do an entire drive-train swap. But this is also my DD I'm talking about. If money were no object it would be different. I have the people to do it and do it well, its just way out of reach for me.

az3579
12-18-2010, 09:18 AM
I've done an engine swap before, on a much smaller scale (S50 into E30) and let me tell you, it is no small feat. It costs a LOT of money to do a swap like this, even if you're doing the labor yourself.
You're better off getting a supercharger and call it a day.

I've done one on a much older and less complicated car before. I don't even wanna imagine what goes into swapping the powerplant/trans/rearend of a more modern car with like 8 different computers in it.... and that actually may be an extremely conservative guess.

He even took M3 rear quarter panels and modded them to fit the 4 door so it had the correct fender/wheel arch flare.

First post edited to include the last page of the Bimmer article and a link to his E46f ad. It looks like his price is 24,000 now. Also, as someone mentioned in the E46f thread that since the VIN says it's a ZHP you wouldn't be paying M3 insurance rates.

If I go after this car what kind of animal am I taking on? I have been driving a 99 Tahoe for the last ten years so I really have not had to do the level of maintenance required of a BMW, much less an M3. I am prepared for the maintenance I am going to need to do to keep a ZHP running good (it is going to be fun to have some DIY projects on the car), so what I want to know is how much more in time and $$$ am I going to be spending with this car?

The other thing is that I live in a small town in East Texas, and the nearest independent BMW specialty shop is 45 min. away. There is a shop in town that works on BMWs, but I doubt they are going to have the expertise to fix something major. Is this the type of car that is going to give me "major" problems on a constant basis?

mimalmo
01-25-2011, 09:17 PM
No. The known issues with the E46 are well documented and the majority of them are preventable by doing regular maintenance.

In other words, BOA is saying it will not finance this vehicle? Did it say why it would not finance it? Too many mods? Didn't like the conversion?

did it have the m3 drive train as well or was it all cosmetic in regards to M3 stuff?

IIRC, it was the other way around; it had no M3 cosmetics, just drivetrain, and a ton of other mechanical upgrades.
