Where's your focus dane? Because the car seems out of focus

I think focus ended up on the hood. I am def having issues off and on. I think it may have to do with dioptor....

But then again...I focus, snap, and pic looks good in some of the other ones. I dunno...maybe just my eyes.

Wide open/fast shutter.

wide open shortens your in focus area BIG TIME. So with an 8-10ft long car, from where you focus at with a wide open aperture, you might get about 6-12 inches IN focus.

something like this one might benefit from a medium aperture and slower shutter. bump the ISO if needed to 200 or even 400 to get the aperture up to f/8 or 11ish.

yeah i kinda think i see where you were trying to go on the photo. instead maybe go reshoot, go as wide and close as possible to the car to fit the same scene in. then try to shoot slower shutter and you can maybe get like a 5.6 aperture to get a lot of the car in focus. aim for the bumper and let the focus trail off behind that.


the closer you focus the more bokeh/out of focus the background will be.

yeah thought it was 18-55... DW if you want more bokeh in back shoot wider but closer to the car. the closer you get and zoom out the more the background will blur if you focus on the car.

The lighting looks good on #1, probably the best of the 3. Not crazy about the angle/crop either but thats something you can work on just by being behind the camera more often and training your eye. It's good you can see it after the fact because it means you know it looks off so now you just have to think about that before you hit the shutter. Kinda reminds me a little of one I did a while back.

2nd one isn't bad by any means but I think the hose is a little distracting. The car is beautiful BTW... I love silvergray.
3rd, well... focus is a bit of an issue but not the only issue. Good thought trying to frame the shot with the seats but nothing is really jumping out at me as the subject. I would say choose something specific to focus on then adjust your angle you're shooting it at so that it frames it. Maybe this would be a cool shot of the shift knob with a really shallow depth of field at your lowest aperture setting and zoomed in all the way? There is also a really strong yellow cast on the photo too, remember to check your white balance.

Not bad work though, keep shooting.

@ Seth: I actually do believe we were going a little faster in that photo.
@ Dalton: I may actually look into that...but I think the big problem was the car was very dirty...lol Hasn't been washed in a couple weeks due to low temperatures.

Nice rolling shots. I recommend understanding what's in the background too, as that can contribute to the photo. I know those were just practice, but to me, having CVS signs, houses, etc., takes away from a great pic. Also, really like the road blur in red shot #2

Really cool, great editing. Love how you captured the rays and the light, I'd love something like that with my car. The back half of the pic "feels" just a tad washed out to me compared to the front, but that's being overly picky on such a great shot. (especially if you did it on purpose because the front is more the focal of the pic).

Nice car. Not that I'm buying one, but curious as to why he's selling. That's a lot of work and such a nice car to leave. Also, even with all he has on it, I would think it would be tough to get that much on a car with 117K miles that's clearly been "driven" (eg supercharger, recaro seats, race belts)?
