View Full Version : I replaced the oil dipstick and found something out.

I compared the new part to the old one and it was missing a piece, so that means for the last three years I've been reading the oil level a bit wrong. That explains why I kept thinking I didn't need oil when I did every time the light came on. You all may wana check for that.

Looks like the space between the middle plastic piece and the top one is gone on the old one.

Great, Yet another thing that shouldn't break; breaks on e46s....

ummm... i think you guys might be reading it wrong. the 'spaces/gaps' are the min/max readings, as long as you're in the rectangle you should have oil

Yea I kinda just realised even if that section was gone its still reading right but still. I don't understand why they had to use a plastic tipped dip stick. I changed it because it was cracking and I didn't want it to fall apart in the oil pan all together.

Because since the advent of computerized CAD design cost cutting has been optimized. They don't over engineer cars like they used to in the old days.
