Hey guys!

Just wanted to start out right and throw up a New Member thread!

Here's my 2004 Imola Red 6spd 4dr ZHP with Alcantara interior poped up on my local CL, and after years of being an E30 nut I thought it was time to get into the car I had been lusting after since Freshmen year of College.

I knew that a ZHP in itself was rare, but even more so with the combination of options that this one has (correct me if I'm wrong). It was exactly what I would have chosen option wise had I bought the car brand new myself.

So I sold all my E30's and pulled the trigger on the ZHP of my dreams.

Without further adieu, here is the list of options on this ZHP as well as some pictures:

2004 330i ZHP

Imola Red II
Alcantara Interior
E46 M3 Leather Steering Wheel Swap

Woah, phat. Pre plastic and converted?

1989 325i 4dr with built OBDI 1995 M3 S50 motor. Plastic Bumpers

Did all the work myself. Rebuilt the S50, swapped from auto to 5spd, rebuilt all suspension, brakes, etc...

It was a really fun project, but was time to get into a more practical car.

I envy your experience with that car, I questioned the year because of the expansion tank.

Ya.. I kind of miss it, but I LOVE my ZHP, so.... I guess I don't miss it that much, ha

I know it's a little crazy, but the E30 was significantly faster than the ZHP. Though I suppose that's what happens when you have 260whp in an 1800lb car.

I didn't see any amazing difference after install but I like the sound of the exhaust more now. FYI - the sale is cause BMW discontinued it so if you want one buy it before they're gone (I wanted the cf strut brace which nobody has, also recently discontinued)

The intake on Tischer's website looks a lot different than the one you have installed.
Though they prob just have a generic BMW Performance Intake picture on an E90 or something. I'd jump on it if it looked just like in the picture.

I found this pic on e90post. You can see it's the part Tischer has in the pic but also that its not our engine there

You're completely right. Now seeing it installed I don't think I'd like it even on an E9x.

I think I will buy the strut brace though. It's on sale too:

Welcome, great car, and great pics. Really like Neils work. As for the intake/bar, here's a not so great cell phone pic of mine. As for the intake, the sound is better, butt dyno says it feels slightly more responsive, but I wouldn't get it for that. Officially BMW rates it at 3 HP but most dynos says it adds 7 HP. EDIT: I should add they they are great engine eye candy. I just saw that it's not the BMW strut bar, nevertheless, if you want one, get it, as they are going fast.

Marcus,

Thank you so much! I can already tell that the community here is much different than any of the others I’m already a part of.

I'm excited to have found a community that is as passionate about BMW's, and more specifically ZHP's, as I am!
And more importantly helpful to each other and that stays within the spirit of the community!

Thanks you guys so much!

The links on the left side of the page are for their normal priced parts I believe. The whole deal with Tischer is that they advertise their prices are 20%ish less than MSRP that the dealer would charge you.

They're 'passing' on dealership price savings.

It's kind of like shopping at dollar general though.
Sometimes you can still get a better deal on toilet paper at Walmart.... haha

I get what your saying but just try this and you'll see what I mean. On the site in the box that says 'Search Accessory Catalogs' type in 32347906682 (ZHP Perf. Leather Steering Wheel). There are two listings for the same part number. MSRP is shown as $1303. Under the E46 Fanatics link its listed on sale for $1185 while if you buy the one under the M3Forum link then its only $995.

While I'm talking about wheels I was just wondering - yours looks like a plain leather wheel? I thought your car should have an alcatara wheel

Marcus-SanDiego
09-09-2011, 07:36 PM
JP, you're saying it would look better with an Alcantara wheel or the car is supposed to come equipped with an Alcantara wheel? If it's the latter, many owners -- when they had worn out Alcantara wheels -- had the dealer replace it with a leather one under warranty. Or, as others also did, the leather wheel was chosen when the car was ordered.

danewilson77
09-09-2011, 07:37 PM
Naaaa...many of the alcantara wheels would get swapped out, CPO, when they prematurely wore put. I have a leather wheel. Everything else is alcantara.

I see, I see... Yeah, wasn't judging 'better' just was a bit confused to see that wheel.

Marcus-SanDiego
09-09-2011, 08:17 PM
JP, that's why I was asking. Not your style to weigh in that way.

Here's the information from the FAQ: "What's more, during the spring of 2005, BMW stopped putting Alcantara steering wheels on the ZHP (because of problems with premature wear), which means there are many ZHP-optioned cars on the road today without Alcantara steering wheels. Moreover, before BMW discontinued the Alcantara steering wheel, it also replaced many wheels under warranty, replacing them with leather wheels. Yet another reason why you'll find leather wheels coupled with Alcantara-clad seats."

Gonna rewind real quick on this thread, so I stopped at the parts counter yesterday to see what the dealer could get the M3 strut brace for. The quote I got before CCA discount was $457.67 before tax, a full $100 more than Tischer and still more than what they say MSRP is ($434.77). Husker BMW is even cheaper at $313.28 for everything.
http://www.trademotion.com/sfimages/214336/partImages/4462/SFPLImage67086.jpg

So while we were checking this out they guy used some system they have to search who has it since they didn't have one on hand and I thought I might as well get him to check for the BMW Perf. CF one that some people have. His searched resulted in 0 returns anywhere, US or AG, so be happy if you got one.

Dealers in San Diego charge MSRP + markup. On some parts, it is MSRP + 15%. Unless you've got a dealer account (or the dealer will match prices), you're better off staying away from San Diego-area dealers for parts, even if you're using bmwcca discount.
