View Full Version : So...would a 335is be the closest thing to a 2011 ZHP if it existed?

Just curious what you guys thought considering I had one for a few months earlier this year...great car.

Albert, Jon Shafer sent me a note a few months ago. He thought that there was a better car that fit the bill.

Does anyone remember a BMW announcement recently that made us think of a new ZHP-like BMW?

135 ///M?

I prefer the 1ers but this looks like a great GT car!

for now I would say yes, unless what Marcus says comes true...

I would say yes. The 335is definitely fits the ZHP bill.

What is this new car that y'all speak of?

Here you go, guys. It was the performance edition BMW announced in July.

Marc posted it here: http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?3731-The-real-ZHP-successor

I think it would have been cool to have 'is' instead of 'Ci' on my trunk

I remember watching a youtube sneak-peak at a 335is and the guy got to drive it on the track and compared it to the ZHP. I do remember specifically how he wished that it got the black headliner & alcantara accents like the ZHP

Oh... that's not a new car. It's just another option to add onto the Sport or M-Sport packages. It's already selectable on BMW's website when you go to Build Your BMW. The price is shockingly good, and is kind of a no-brainer, worth the money just for the radiator fan and power boosts alone. The grilles and badging are nice additions.

The 2003-2006 E46 was also not a new car. Customers just selected the ZHP option and added it to the car. Is this not the same thing with the performance edition? Maybe I'm confused here.

driven a 335is... not ZHP like by any means. Its a rebadged 335i with more boost adjustments made and and overboost function from BMW. Just their answer to many tuners making millions of dollars by selling piggybacks and flashes and causing warranty issues. Its a pretty big flop on their part IMO... nothing too special about the car other than that. The overboost and a darker aluminum interior trim color are about the only other difference between that and an msport 335i.

no you are correct Marcus but I think AZ meant it's not a new trim/model like the 335is is. Performance Edition is just a package add on, like ZHP was.

i am no bmw guru, by any means, but i've test driven a handful of late models and none can compete with the handling and suspension characteristics of the E46 ZHP. it's the perfect harmony of sport and ergonomic comfort.

that said, i'd happily take the keys to a 335is. killer drivetrain!

Thanks. Thought I was going crazy there for a sec.

Even one equipped with M components? Say a 1M (because it's just really a 2010 135i with a body kit and M3 suspension components in disguise)?

have not driven the 1M. (who here has?)

the 135i m sport is sick, love that chassis and engine... but it's a different animal than the ZHP.

Really? Does an Msport 335i have Sport Exhaust and Suspension? I really enjoyed my 335is (6-spd) - I've driven a few ZHP's back in the day and I'd have to say they were pretty much M-technic cars (flame suit on!)

FWIW, I've owned my fair share of BMW's...but hell, what would I know? :)

02' E46 ///M3
03' X5 3.0
11' E92 335is

trust me my car (stock) is nothing like a zhp suspension wise. The 3 series chassis is much tighter than a 1 series.

Hmmmm.... to my knowledge the suspension system is the same as any other 3 series but you drive one so I guess you'd know. I was under the impression it was the standard ZSP stuff.

Another thing I did forgot was that the 335is is offered with the DCT trans instead of the Steptronic AT that is on all the other 3 series models, sans the M3.

Albert, I'm not sure what you mean, why would that comment invite flames? (But of course you know, we don't flame family anyway. :) )
