View Full Version : Straight pipes after headers (oem header w/cats) to magnaflow 14815 tomorrow!
Decided to go ahead and bite the bullet on an exhaust. Going to try straight pipes (no resonators) to a magnaflow 14815 and see how it goes. I'll post some info and vids when complete. The appointment is tomorrow morning. I'll keep everyone updated.

It will be louder that's for sure. Interested to see if it avoids the raspy sound most cars get when you remove the resonators and go to just straight pipes.
Straight pipes can sound amazing when done correctly:

Alright, I'l be as prompt as possible with results. I hope I can avoid the rasp but if not.. I will try a magnaflow resonator to calm it down and maintain good sounds.

Anxious to see/hear too. BTW, welcome back Dean.
Little update, changed to dual 2.25 from bolt on position to a single 2.5 all the way back to the muffler, interested in what it will be like considering I haven't heard of many single larger diameter exhausts on e46s before

I don't have any resonators in my car and it doesn't have any rasp when warm. Only a tad of rasp when the exhaust is cold which you shouldn't be rasping because that means high rpm with cold engine. Once the exhaust is hot though the tone is deep and head turning. Youtube videos can't show how good it sounds so you'll have to come hear it for yourself. LOL.
What changes in sound happen in general when you goto a larger single diameter from the headers to the muffler?
