Hi everyone, I've finally found what seems to be a killer deal close to home. Unfortunately, it's not a ZHP. It's not even an E46 :-( Still, it looks like a pretty sweet deal, and a very nice car. Since everyone here has always been so helpful, I thought I'd ask if anyone could run a CarFax report on the vehicle for me. i've seen alcantara cloth/suede, black leather, natural brown leather, and tan leather. as far as i know, anything else is a swap or mod or special order.

that 2nd car is definitely a ZHP. M-Tech2, alcantara wheel, black cube trim are dead giveaways. no other details though...interesting

edit: that Mystic listing on CL is from March 28, a month old. I went to the dealership website and it's no longer listed....only bimmer they have is a 325Ci

my mistake, grey leather was also an option on ZHPs, although most people think that is the least attractive interior. personally i agree that it looks good on silver grey or sparkling graphite.

jdhouseman- I'm sorry that I'm not near any of those cars, but I do have some info on the second one (the white sedan in TX).. I've spoken to the owner and he's sent me a bunch of pictures and info. That car is in pretty rough shape and I'd definitely make plans to have it checked out by a mechanic before purchasing. The price looks decent, but it does have quite a few miles on it too... Just FYI...

Just a lot of small dings and dents, the engine bay is FILTHY... Overall its just a very poorly maintained car. He sent me all of this maintenance history too, and with almost every service receipt there were notes that something was recommended, yet the owner declined to have the service done...

I replied to that thread... The OP never posted a link to a car, but when I was looking, I inquired about a really clean looking Orient Blue sedan in the Sac area. It looked great, was lowered and sitting on E90 sport wheels. VERY nice.. But, it had a salvage title from a previous state it was registered in. The owner denied and said it was a clean CA title, and that was all that mattered... Sounded too shady for me at the time... Hopefully its not the same car. If so, hope the seller wants less than the $16k he was asking for it back in May.

Question: So, if the car doesn't have all of those features, it's not a ZHP-optioned 330?
Answer: Not necessarily. Customers could order the car with leather seats (option) and a perforated leather-wrapped M steering wheel (option). What's more, during the spring of 2005, BMW stopped putting Alcantara steering wheels on the ZHP (because of problems with premature wear), which means there are many ZHP-optioned cars on the road today without Alcantara steering wheels. Moreover, before BMW discontinued the Alcantara steering wheel, it also replaced many wheels under warranty, replacing them with leather wheels. Yet another reason why you'll find leather wheels coupled with Alcantara-clad seats. Additionally, while the trunk lid spoiler came standard, there was an option to have it deleted (option code 326). And this side note: some ZHPs, in early 2004, did not come with the trunk lid spoiler (even though customers did not choose option code 326) -- because of a parts shortage. Customers who complained eventually got them installed at the dealer at no cost (covered under warranty).

The easiest way for me to tell a ZHP vs Non-ZHP sedan (because bumpers and wheels are easy to change) is to look at the window pillars. The ZHP pillars are shiny black and the Non-ZHP are dull black. Specifically, the pillar on the back door, separating the two windows, is nearly impossible to remove. (I've tried, you have to remove the triangle glass first.)

I took a little cue from the white car w/ a black hood and white stripes. It may be hard to see in my Sig, but my car's roof is black with red stripes. So the black stripes reverse over the roof, to red on black, and revert back to black on red down the rear of the car.

Another option is to check bimmershops.com and see if their is a local Indy shop that will do a PPI. Usually $100-200.

Just got in contact with the dealership owner, he sounded like a really sincere guy. One of the first dealers I've talked to that actually knows something about the ZHP too! He bought the car from a local friend a few years ago and had his wife driving it since then. The original wheels were stolen from his shop unfortunately. He noted a spot of surface rust on the front quarter that he is planning on getting done over this week. Once I'm out of school I may have to take a ride out there!

FWIW, GMATT (Gary) provided a PPI for me on a car in his town last year and suggested a more extensive PPI be performed by an Indy he recommended. The Indy didn't find anything mechanically that Gary hadn't already noticed but the Indy did miss some of the cosmetic stuff that Gary had pointed out. I flew up and bought that car without seeing it, no reservations, I trust Gary, he's a great enthusiast and will always help a fellow enthusiast out. The drive back that same evening was uneventful for the car, spectacular for me as I got to learn and become acquainted with it. Unfortunately it wasn't a ZHP and the itch came calling again so I sold it to finance another non-special car which sleeps in our garage. But I see and have done some PM on that old 540 as its new owner stops by to see me periodically, the car is still rock solid after another 18K miles.

Maximum Auto Outlet in Manassas is one of the scummiest used car dealers around here. They're in the same general area as Linton Motor Sport and Advantage Certified, both very good BMW indys but Maximum gets the bottom of the barrel cars and makes them look nice cosmetically while ignoring mechanical issues. I would not send my worst enemy there to buy a car.

No it isn't. No m sport wheel and no trim.

The dead give away is no red needles on the instrument panel, so not a ZHP. But it has the bumpers, a fairly expensive cosmetic upgrade. ZHPs could get wood trim by special order, though rare. When the alcantara wheels started falling apart in 2005/6/7, dealers offered a free one time replacement so it could be whatever they had in stock and the customer agreed to. I've seen sport wheels, M3 wheels, alcantara, e39 m-sport wheels, lots of options.

The limited pictures I got from the owner are not very clear, and did not really show detail about the interior. After seeing an average car after viewing nice pictures, I figured pictures aren't sufficient for me make a decision on remote car purchasing unless they are high resolutions to the detail.

Anyway, my main concern is the interior condition, especially the grey leather. From the pictures, it looks like the driver's seat is quite dirty and possibly worn. I don't mind doing some leather cleaning myself, but if the leather is worn, then it's hard to restore.

I would very much appreciate if a fellow mafia can pay a visit.

Same specs as Enemy's car. I noticed it wasn't in the zhpregistry so I entered it. Those seats could sure use some Leatherique. Hope someone can put eyes on it for you.

I think I found the convertible I've been looking for but am curious if it is a diamond in the rough or a potential money pit....its in Florida (Milton). Its a black sapphire with natural tan leather interior.....relatively low (48K) miles. Questionable history: Super-lube oil changes (20Kmi worth) and new brake pads by way of some brake place which supposedly lead to the burning up of the clutch but supposedly the clutch was replaced by an indy close by. The asking price is 18k....my thoughts are 13k then spend some $sorting it out. Any thoughts???
