Buddy of mine got himself a sweet '02 325 Xi Wagon 5 speed, 5th day with it and the rear passenger shock literally exploded... He already has HDs on order, but is it safe to drive slowly thru the city until it gets replaced?
Peace!

First off, what up Ed. I guess if he is careful(no potholes), and not going over 35 and not that many total miles he will be ok, just my 2cents.

Hey John, thanks for the response, that's kinda the same advice I gave him! Great minds think alike :P

Sweet.
He can probably drive it... slowly and avoiding potholes or speeding over dips. Bottoming out could cause some damage.

Ive drove my lifted jeep (coil sprung). With no rear shocks and no sway bars, I'm sure a low COG BMW would be fine.

Hey Ed, thanks for the invite. I'll do a formal "new member" intro shortly. I'm the guy with the exploded shock. It was a near miss accident and the shock exploded into 2 pieces. It was pretty crazy.

That's pretty vicious looking. I thought the damage was a little more modest. Be careful!

Wow, how did that happen? I would probably unbolt the bottom of the strut and take it off so it doesn't catch on anything or bind. It's probably not going to hurt anything then, but drive safe.

This should not be driven on. You run a very high risk with further damage.

Alright, I'm still waiting on the rears to arrive. Do you foresee any problem with me replacing the rear shocks and waiting a month or so to do the fronts? Money is tight at the moment, I just started a new job and recently moved twice in 2 months.

The shocks are replaced. idk what i'm more impressed with, the replaced shocks or the fact I actually remembered how to put my rear interior back together. Keep in mind the temperature here in Texas was 105 at the time.:(
