Fuel pump/filter replacement?

Anyone done this? Do I have to drop the fuel tank? Any tips are helpful, need to do it asap!

Both are pretty easy to replace. The pump is under the rear seat on the passenger side. Left side is the sending unit. and the fuel filter under the driver’s side floor, inside of frame rail covered by splash panel.

Cool, I found a DIY and it looks pretty easy. How do I keep from all the fuel spilling out when I replace the filter?

In previous vehicles, I've been able to pull the pump fuse and then run the car until it burned off the fuel in the line. I'm not sure if it will work on these newer cars. Otherwise, it's going to be lots of fun with gasoline running down your arm! WooHoo!

The filter was pretty easy, but that pump was a bitch! I disconnected the top hose and gas shot all over the inside of my car, it was lovely. Then screwing the large ring back on the top was quite the chore, I shaved a couple of the tabs off the top trying to hammer it on with a chisel. All good though, did the tranny fluid while I was under there as well. She runs great now, as far as the fuel issue is concerned.

Grr. Wish my fuel filter was easy. It was a Nasty nasty job. Glad you got it done. I had to clamp my fuel line. I had about 2/3 gallon go into a bucket before i said f-it and clamped the lines. Then just shoved in the new filter. Now the lawnmower is runnin off high test for the next few months!

IMHO, Fuel filter change effeciency is best with two persons; the escaping gas is more easily managed with two pairs of hands.

Okay, edit to my original post. I found what seems to be a reasonably priced pump and filter at Pelican. Currently in my cart I have:

A fuel pump: OEM 16-14-6-766-942-M82
A fuel filter: OEM: 13-32-7-512-019-M93
A Seal for Suction Device and Fuel Level Sensor: OEM 16-14-1-182-905-M9

Anything else I need for this job? Other seals, hoses, clamps, etc? Thanks.

OK...so what have we learned about the easiest way to change the filter without spilling? I am down a man...so I will be doing this myself tomorrow. Should I just start off by clamping the lines? Would a couple of sets of vice grips gently used, be helpful. Looking for pre-prep idea's.

If you have soft vices, yes. Just clamp andd go. After waiting for a gallon of fuel to drain, I just used one hand and a set of pliers to pinch and reinstall. I did it by myself, so I know u can ddane. Pull fuse for fuel pump, start car annd let die, then clamp lines, replace and go.

And make sure to mark inlet andd return lines before removing.. at least put a ribbon on one of them to identify

But I don't wanna pull the fuse. Can't I just clamp it down, near the filter? I don't want to basically empty the fuel rail....on purpose.

Check on labeling.
