My Story

After 3 plus years of ownership it’s time to move away from my E46. With a family, two doors no longer cut it. I’m fortunate to have held on to it for this long. I’d like to see this go to another enthusiast so I’m posting this here before I take it outside of the BMW forums.

I purchased the car February of 2008 with 39k miles, now at 72,200 (I averaged less than 10k mi/year) During my first two years of ownership the car’s spent most of it’s time in my apartment garage in Washington DC. Body is in great condition. No door dings. Front bumper has some nice scratches underneath. No mods were ever done to the car. I had planned on a CSL trunklid but never got to installing it and sold it. No accidents. One bad parking job I dinged the front bumper license plate bracket. The front bumper was scratched but are hidden by the license bracket. Another bracket was purchased and will be installed this week. The steering wheel suede is worn in spots from the previous owner. At my asking price the wheel will be rewrapped. The interior was treated with Leatherique a month ago and will be retreated once more.

The car has been serviced nearly exclusively by BMW. BMW of Arlington and Passport BMW were used for warranty and service. Inspection II was performed by Road Race Technology in Dulles, VA. (Well known BMW specialists in the DC area) All records and receipts were kept and will be included with the sale. Oil changes and other maintenance items were performed by myself after the service agreement with BMW ended. All parts purchased were genuine BMW parts (receipts kept) and were mostly purchased from Tischer BMW in Silver Spring, MD.

Shortly after purchasing the car, the notorious Vanos rattle presented itself. It was replaced with a new unit by Passport BMW and worked perfectly. Slowly the rattle returned and I replaced the unit with a Dr Vanos fully rebuilt unit with better seals and an anti-rattle kit. The new unit works perfect. No more noise and returned HP is nice =D I also decided to replace the spark plugs and change the oil at the same time. I'm sure I'm missing a few things while I'm writing this up.

If you're local you're more than welcome to take a look. Tire kickers and joy riders need not apply. Please ask questions. I am willing to have the car taken to get a PPI on your coin.

More pictures to come.

Thanks guys

Added 8/02: Interior Pics as promised. Engine Pics to come.

Proper ZHP shifter knob is what will come with the car. I swapped knobs with my E28 for a week to test it out with my Z3 shifter in that car. So disregard that in this picture. Also note that this is the carpet that is shown, not the carpet mats or rubber mats that will both be included with the car.

Neil, only part of the Autocheck report is showing.

Also, I see that Autocheck still hasn't fixed something. It's showing that this is a 2.5 liter engine when we all know it's 3.0. I've probably sent them 5 emails over the last year. Idiots.

Yea I wasn't sure of the legality of showing the whole report online. I'm probably being over paranoid. Anyone know? Otherwise I'll post the whole thing

Not any different than those who provide it on eBay. It's displayed to everyone.

As far as I know, there is nothing wrong with this.

You might want to check your purchase agreement, though. It probably addresses this. I'm thinking it's fine because of its prominent display in so many eBay ads.

Hi Neil,
Does your car have the fold-down rear seat?
I'm really looking for a sedan, but.....I'm thinking that a coupe might-could work if it at least had the fold-down rear seat. Also, do you have pics of the rubber mats? Are they the heavy duty types with a lip all around?
Nice looking car -
TIA,
Scott
PS: What's the difference between "sparkling graphite" and "steel grey"? Those two colors look very similar to my eye. Does yours have the 'purple-ish' cast under certain lighting conditions?

Neil22
08-12-2011, 11:57 AM
Scott,

The rear seats do fold down. I've been able to fit 2 different front bumpers (One was even packed in cardboard to ship.) for my E28's and also an E28 front dash. I've fit roof racks, luggage and such. It gives you a surprising amount of space.

The front and rear rubber mats are OEM BMW. They are gray and look just like this:

http://www.bmwcleveland.com/sc/store/pc/catalog/e46-977_rubber_2329_general.jpg

Not certain about the differences between the two colors to be honest. I do know E90 also come in my color if that helps you out any. If you're local you're more than welcome to take a look at her yourself.

Bump for a great car. I have almost the same exact vehicle, Sparkling Graphite Metallic with gray interior and black cube trim. I have 73,xxx miles. The only difference is that mine is auto. Someone should buy this soon. It's the best color combo for an A22, I suggest getting some black mats and you get a great 2 tone color interior. If I didn't have my ZHP and if I were local, I would buy it.
