Two weeks ago they looked like this:

Then we had some heavy rain, so today they looked like this:

Then this:

Then traditional cleaning because sonax doesn't quite cut it:

That's how I do it, too, Marc. Spray it on. Rinse. Wash wheel traditionally. Rinse. Beautiful.

Nothing beats good elbow grease in the end.

It would be amazing if Sonax could cut through and remove the BMW brake dust with a mere spray and wash. I'll believe a product like that exists when I see it.

Marc, and if that product did exist, I bet it would harm our wheels. I'd be very afraid of it! LOL.

IIRC, some of the vids have the DI guys using wheel brushes with Sonax. I think elbow grease is almost always necessary.

Ran out of Sonax, so thought lets try the same color -- used Purple Power that was in the garage (previously used it to clean under the hood). $4.99 for a 40oz bottle and the result was like Sonax. Not as clingy or foamy, but after I sprayed, waited, rinsed it, the heavy stuff came off, then just moved my hand around on the wheel with the water following my hand to take whatever remained off. Not even a sponge or microfiber required. Caveat, I have ceramic pads so don't know if that's why it was so easy.

Very nice. Clean 135M's look pretty awesome, right? I'm gonna get some of the gel BMW wheel cleaner for $7 that they sell. I wonder how well it works.

You might want to be careful using the Purple Power on the wheels. It has a pH of 12.5, which means it is caustic. Caustic cleaners can easily damage the finish of alloy wheels, not to mention your skin, eyes, and throat. Sonax is pH neutral with a pH in the range of 7.0 to 7.5, which is why it is safer to apply to your wheels.

Horns,
Appreciate the warning, I could smell the acidic aroma while I was doing this but wasn't really thinking about it. However, found myself searching for Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin songs afterwards.

Hmmm, I've never had to scrub (or even "polish") my wheels with Sonax, but I tend to keep them pretty clean and wipe them down semi-regularly. It's done the trick every time without manual labor, just spray on and hose off. Now I've recently added the wheel protectant so hopefully that makes it even easier to keep clean.
