My shadownline trim is falling apart, has weird discoloration etc and I'd like to replace it. Its $1k for the two sides though which seems like an awful lot of money for 2 pieces of trim... Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had just slapped on the stock 325i trim instead. Its flat black instead of glossy, and can be installed for sub $300...

Thoughts?

How is it falling apart? The discoloration can be fixed.

they are separating where the 2 pieces connect over the little window on the rear door. On both sides. Same thing happend to my old 325i. I think it must be the weather here--because I bought the car in Virgina and it was perfect. Within 5 months of being in Boston, it had separated... Car is garaged, but its still damn cold here in the winter....

How can the discoloration be fixed?

Thanks!

Besides using a light polish I haven't found anything that would last..... What other fixes are there?

I have to get some more two part epoxy tomorrow, I jinxed my self and opened that door and it feel on the ground showering the clips with it lol.

I would have done it now but the epoxy I had grew legs and moved somewhere.

My shadow line trim clips failed on the passenger side from the rear and was starting to flap. One day someone opened the rear door and the door ripped the trim right off the car and bent it. So in anger I finished the trim off by ripping it all out and folding it into a shadow line ball that I can throw into the garbage for recycling...lol. I proceded to my local BMW wreck yard and got myself a new matte black 325i two piece trim for $15 and new clips from the dealership for a few bucks. :D The one thing that I loved about the original shadow line trim was it was one whole piece. Any other car is't two separate pieces and the large piece always shift forward as doors open and close leaving an ugly gap in between pieces. It's easily fixable by opening both doors and shifting the big piece back into place.
