Is the BMW Performance Short Shift Kit different then the stock ZHP? If so are the throws shorter and by how much? Anyone done the upgrade ?

I did the upgrade. It is different than the stock ZHP shifter and does shorten the throws as well. I no longer had to shift my upper body to reach 5th. No measurement of exactly how much it shortens the throws but it is defintiely noticeable.

Awesome thats what i wanted to hear. Bought the kit for the knob and boot and if it shortened it was a plus. I currently have an OEM m3 knob, so just the knob will be a difference for me. What DIY did you use?

What do you mean you bought the kit for the knob and boot? Is it a shift rod you bought or just a knob/boot? If there is no rod, there will be no short shift.

Pretty sure he means he bought the whole ssk kit but he did it for the boot and knob with no intention of putting the rod in unless it was an improvement. I know on tischer it's not that much of a difference to get the rod when you get the boot and knob as well.

M3TA5IN Yes Correct. I bought the entire kit for the knob and to have an extra boot. I ordered the shift boot, knob and rod as a kit. It was so cheap it was not a big deal if the rod did nothing for me. I could sell the rod and recoup most of my money. The whole kit was 80 something dollars brand new.

Prices are back up at ECS. I bought this one for $99 a month or so ago. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330i-M54_3.0L/Drivetrain/Shifter/ES46510/

with the stock ZHP knob the price is almost $200.

You might be able to find them cheaper elsewhere.

Some of the short-shift-kits come with the straight arm which is exactly the same as the stock ZHP one, and some of them come with the curved arm which is slightly longer from the ball to the linkage connector which yields a slightly shorter throw. There's a thread here on ZHPMafia with a picture of the two side-by-side but I couldn't seem to find it.

This is accurate. I started this thread (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?3096-ZHP-ESS-TS2-Project-%28PICS%29/page5) on my project page.

got my shipment from ECS today. SSK was boxed the same way BMW would of sold it. Lever appears to be a bent model. So it seems as though it should be shorter than OEM lever. I am really digging the shift knob. Cant wait to install it all.

As long as the length from the ball to the linkage connection, then it will be shorter throw (assuming length from the ball to knob, which sounds dirty, is relatively the same length). I personally would not care for the curve rod though, I think the knob sits perfectly for me.

Quick Necro here - Santa has blessed me with a short shift kit from ECS - the one with a new ZHP knob included. Here's the link:

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330i-M54_3.0L/Drivetrain/Shifter/Performance/ES2215288/

Now judging by the picture and the part number (25 11 7 528 881), the shifter included in the package is in fact the short shifter. However, I received the shifter with part no. 25 11 7 546 373, which has a different bend in it and looks different from how the short shifter is pictured on pretty much every parts dealer site. Here's the actual shifter I received:

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-12517-genuine-bmw-shift-lever-short-e60-e39-e46-5117546373.aspx?utm_source=goog_product&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=25117546373&gclid=CNyWoP7LzrsCFUjNOgod5DgAdw

It appears to be an e60 five-series shifter. Did ECS make a mistake? Quite confused here.

That's not what I got. Pretty sure mine was bronze in color.

Yup, the one you got is for 5-speeds. The one you need is definitely #25117528881.

Interesting - I think ECS goofed. I mean, it even came with a 6-speed knob.

Thanks for the help guise. I'll return it tomorrow.

- The new shift knob is enough to drool over, though.

I'll echo everyone else's words. My video also shows it and the part # at the 1:29 mark.

Also did a follow up video with the new one showing the shorter throw to 2nd, 4th, and 6th.

I apologize if you watch the vids. I just ramble on and on and on and on......When I watch these I scream at my computer and tell myself to STFU!

Lol I watched that video. Not to be rude but I stopped when you started making shifting noises.

But then remembered this
