For those members not using a strut brace, a BMW Motorsport strut tower cover is a nice inexpensive solution to the ugly open top, bolts exposed look. An E36 part, it is a perfect fit on our ZHPs. About $15 per pair. Issued in black, could be painted to suit...

Or maybe get the Carbon Fiber Motorsport strut brace while they're on sale. I like the price of these better though. :biggrin

Strut bars: is it a mere cosmetic add-on or does it also have some functionality?

They do provide some functionality as they stiffen up the front end, but you will probably only notice when on track or other extreme driving. The other benefit is that strut-tower brace also provides protection against mushrooming of the strut-tower tops (happens when driving over potholes the size of grand canyon, they are all over CA).

It's arguable to some degree. Some say it doesn't really do much, others say it does.
It's purpose is to reduce chassis flex between the two shock towers. In all honesty, I think for a street application it's only purpose is bling. For constant track use, I believe it can serve some benefit in reducing the amount of chassis flex over time. In a street driven car, that just doesn't matter as it doesn't get used quite as hard as on the track, and it takes a lot longer to build up that total chassis warp (which is miniscule either way).

I agree.
