Hey all,

I was browsing some pictures in the classified section and noticed that all of the auto zhp's have alcantara shift boots and ebrake boots. Can anyone clarify if this is a standard feature or optional because my car (bought it used) came with a black leather shift boot and black leather ebrake boot. Thanks.

Hello! I'll wait for the others to chime in, but the ZHP interior was available in alcantara/cloth or leather.

I'm not sure which was "standard".

Here is a thread that may be good reading:

mtnman's (David) AUTO was alcantara - and he recently upgraded the boot to alcantara with stitching thru Coby Wheel, a site affiliate advertiser (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?2781-www.cobywheel.com-Alcantara-arm-rest-shift-boot-and-ebrake-boot).

nope. originally shift boot was alcantara. Just upgraded it. It may have something to do with the time when they switched the steering wheel to leather....John, is your wheel leather too?

Thanks David. I misunderstood you at the meet.

they also replaced alcantara wheels under cpo with leather ones i believe. Dane may verify that more than me...im speculating on something i may remember from an old thread.

Yes they did in fact do that. I bet it's in the FAQ. Maybe not...

I have the alcantara seats, yet my shift boot, e-brake boot and steering wheel are leather. I would have guessed that it was tied to the material of the steering wheel, I have a late build 05 after everything was switched to leather. :(

I believe May of 2005 was when BMW changed over to leather wheel/boot/ebrake, fwiw.

My car has an August 05 build date- only alcantara is the seats.

Yes. It was the spring of 2005. BMW stopped with the alcantara wheels. I believe they also stopped including shift boots and ebrake boots, too. Premature wear cited for discontinuance.

A little late for them to realize "premature wear" after they've been doing it for years. lol
Too bad the sedans got left out of that loop.

They still had about 17 months left in the run. BMW was about 24 months into the run when they made the decision.
