Nav, black cube trim, heated seats (Cold Pkg?). While I would love for this ZHP to sell at that price for our comps, I can't help but think the price is far too high.

Yeah. And besides that, some of these sellers are making us look even more crazy than we already are with these prices. :biggrin It's a nice car, though.

i was actually about to post this one up and ask what you guys thought.
http://www.russelbmw.com/used/bmw-3_series-330i-2005-6793P.html
he told me he'd do 23,9 out the door plus $270 for temp tags. bluebook retail is 22,5. i'd owe georgia another $1400 in sales tax.
one owner, clean autocheck and carfax.
he said he's got 2 other people besides me with appointments to see the car monday. only way to hold the car is to pay in full. i'd have to pay sight unseen or fly up tomorrow and be at their doors when they open monday.
i feel like this is a pretty rare car, but i dont know if i should jump at such a high price.
what do you guys think about ppis on cars sold at bmw dealerships? still necessary?
Marcus-SanDiego
06-25-2011, 02:39 PM
When I am putting more than $20K on something, I want to do my homework. You'd think that the car is clean and problem free but who knows. A PPI would be the only way to know.
As for the price, we all have our own budgets and prices that we'll pay. I've seen some people on this site pay more than "I" would have, but who cares. It's their money. If you're happy with the car and the price, go for it.
I think the price is a bit high but it's an east coast car. East coast cars tend to be more expensive. Still, is it worth paying a premium over bluebook retail? If it was an investment vehicle, I could see it. But with our cars (which depreciate every year), I don't see why we should do that.
Best of luck with whatever you do.

I went and laid on the couch to try to sort it out mentally and kind of ran the numbers.
ppi: 120
purchase: 24000
tax: 1440
tags: 270
airfare: 300
gas: 200
So i'm now into it for $26330, and if i turned around immediately and sold it, i'm now KBB private party excellent, $20,280, maybe $21 for the right buyer. So immediately, i'm upside down by 20% of my initial investment.
Verdict? Pass. Thing is cherry though.

Well, an '05 bimmer was listed in RI (35k miles) ten days ago that got sold for $23.9K in two days. And sale was by a indy car shop, not a bimmer dealer. So, not surprised to see a BMW dealer quoting this.
Cult is certainly growing. :)
Out of curiosity - can't one get an M3 for 60k miles for $25k? I know, maintenance is double that of a zhp but still...
Marcus-SanDiego
06-26-2011, 06:24 PM
Crazy how ZHPs are fetching such a premium, eh? Fact is, a site like ZHPMafia.com will only help with prices in the long run. Pride of ownership can be seen here on a daily basis. What's more, hang around here long enough and you won't want to relinquish the ZHP -- without being compensated nicely.
What I like seeing is non ZHPMafia.com people selling their cars to ZHPMafia.com members. Puts the car into stronger hands.

See below, model yr & mileage based on a friend's immaculate M3 cabrio. Quite the commentary on the state of the used car market. Check out the expected Jul '11 value vs Jun '12.
For comparo, 2 years ago I helped a guy sell his '03 carbon/cinnamon, 6MT, 50k-mi M3 cabrio. Sold for $20k.

Wait.. no change in the expected price even after a year??
And in '08 you helped sell a similar '03 for $20k?? shocking!
Maybe this is an investment and not a depreciating asset albeit for a short while.
Maybe I should sell my '06 e60 soon while it's still within its CPO. :)

Car dealers seem to jack the price when they know what they have. Mine was listed for $25k with 45k miles. I bet they'll get 22k for it.

Had a call with the sales person. He offered around $25k (vs my offer of $21 :biggrin) and when I asked him why so high considering that kbb itself had it at $22.5k and that a MA dealership sold a '04 zhp with 58k for only $16k, he said that they had paid a lot for it and so are struck with the higher price. Well, should be interesting to see at what price this goes.

LMFAO! "Uhhh I paid too much for this car...that's why it's priced so high...because if I don't come out in the black my boss will put my ass to the curb."

Well, the guy I spoke to didn't even attempt pushing me around when I asked him why it deserved such a high mark up that other low mileage zhp cars don't. He mumbled that his Manager had personally picked the car since it was a rare find and hence will not reduce the price significantly. But come on, these guys are in sales: if the two guys with a gunny bag full of bills didn't turn up (what a shocker that would be!), i am sure he's going to say that the two guys were delayed because their bag fell apart but now he has three more guys interested. :biggrin

Dude's name was Julius green I believe. The only thing he agreed to do for me was send me the routing/acct # to wire $23,995. He said he would not hold it unless it was paid in full. I told him I was funded and ready to make the trip, I talked to him at about 2 minutes before closing 2 Saturdays ago and all he would say was that the money had to be in their account at 9AM Monday or he was sure it would sell. I also asked him literally no less than 3 times point blank if that was a drive away price. After the 3rd time he then added the $270 for temp tags. He was also constantly interrupting the conversation to gag and laugh about bullshit in the background with other people in the office.
Guy's unprofessional attitude and pretty atrocious pressure tactics were overwhelming for a grossly overpriced car. Good luck to whoever picks it up, I'll go out of my way to never give this dealership business, not that it was really likely given the location.

Must have been aggravating to be subject to such arrogant treatment, especially when you can purchase something outright.
But, thanks for this background; I might call Mr. Green during my spare time from a different phone and express interest in paying 10% above their asking price. ;)

Sorry you had an unpleasant experience with that dealer. Never had to deal with Russell BMW.
I went ahead and copied the relevant posts into a review thread for Russell BMW:

Be sure to add to the thread and embellish on the unfavorable review. Other options include reviewing them on other online venues... Yelp, Yahoo! Business, etc.
