July 2011 ZHP Mafia Car of the Month Nominations!

Hey guys, I'm completely stealing this idea from another forum, but I though it would fit in well with ZHP Mafia. If everyone likes the idea, I'll keep it going. Otherwise, I can end it.

To enter for ZHP Mafia Car of the Month, you must post a picture of your BMW or nominate another member's by posting a picture of it in this thread. Please only post one picture, so choose wisely. It doesn't matter how modded or stock your car is. If the thread continues, I'm going to limit each member to winning only once a year, so everyone gets a chance to win. I'm only taking the first 10 entries and then I will start a new thread for the voting. The winner gets bragging rights, or maybe Marcus could arrange getting a picture of your car on the homepage for the month :dunno

Let me know if you guys like the idea or think it sucks :biggrin

I think that might be next purchase......... New suspension will be put on next week BMW Performance with &G springs for the front (vert rear is already low) just to take a little gap out the front

Perhaps we should consider whether repeated entries of pictures will be permitted or if different submissions will be required? I don't think its necessary unless it was a winning pic. Thoughts?

I don't really have a problem with people nominating themselves months in a row because the game isn't that popular yet. If it becomes harder to get into the voting then we can either limit the times you can nominate yourself or we can add more entries to the ballot. The reasoning behind 10 entries is because I think if there are too many cars then it would be more difficult to choose between them and there might be too many ties. I hope this makes sense, lol. Let me know what you guys think.

I am doing it intentionally, which is why I also requested that this thread be placed in a higher traffic area. We all want each other to be successful and web traffic to this site generates traffic to my sites, just like traffic on my facebook, twitter, 500px, flickr, and two websites generate traffic to this site. So when there is a "high profile" type of contest, of course I want to take advantage of the traffic it generates.

I haven't had any personal photos taken with the new wheels and smoked corners/tails since I got them that are worth a damn. If I don't win it this month, then I'll submit fresh photos for another month, which I have a strong feeling will have to happen. Some of the cars posted here are :drool

No, actually. When I set it as wallpaper, the color is just as faded. Oddly enough, if I open the photo up by itself, then the color is just fine.
I can't explain it.

BP, you can blame photobucket for that.

It could be a number of things.. Photobucket is part of the problem for how we see it on our monitors. Part of the problem is resolution.. When you view it in your picture viewer the pixels are compressed tighter, when you wallpaper it, pixels spread and color saturation and sometimes image quality suffer. For example, I used to do all of my editing on a laptop and things would look perfect, but if I looked at it on a larger monitor it would look less dramatic. Now I edit on a larger monitor and the pics look the same at a minimum on anything smaller because I am editing to the highest denominator.

Then you have monitor calibration and color space. There are 3 color spaces that are commonly used... Adobe 97, Adobe RGB, and sRGB. If your monitor is set for one and another is used when saving the pictures it can change the color layout for the photos slightly, but enough. If you monitor calibration is off, what looks normal to you will look like crap on a calibrated monitor. Likewise, if I edit on a calibrated monitor (I do) and yours isn't, it will look like it has weird shades or hues in the colors.

Not a fan of this idea. This would rule out quite a few people for whatever reasons ranging from "My camera broke and all I have are regular pics" to "I haven't had time to wash the car and/or take new pics"...

Makes sense Casey. Was mobile last night when I got this.

Did some light post processing type work today and saw a perfect example of what you described in color space. Picture in looked great... but when I loaded it into the editor (Gimp), the color space was not supported and needed to be converted. Needless to say, on the way out the picture was not up to my standards... but it was just a draft.

I'm still not getting why Windows screws up the pic when setting as wallpaper though. Windows Picture and Fax viewer shows it correctly with the correct color depth and everything, but as wallpaper it just doesn't work... :(

Check your wallpaper options, its probably stretching the picture.
