I don't think we've ever started a thread that asks how much each of us pays.

We have some insurance threads, though, that do address the issue -- at least tangentially.

For anyone who is interested, these are the insurance threads:

I'm almost twice your age. I pay about $800 a year (total) for the ZHP and the Jeep.

I have not had any accidents. I have not had a ticket since 1989.

Marcus,

I pay 886 a year on my 330ci and 924. 21, driving since early 2007 and never had a ticket or wreck under my record and considered high risk due to my age. :(

Can't wait to be over 25 so i can lower my deductible and pay about the same. So far it's just been money down the drain since i've never needed it. But something bound to happen someday. I doubt I'll be at fault regardless.

Could you guys list state as well ? It made a huge difference for me.
VA: 1300 / year for the 03 ZHP and 2011 848 EVO
CA: 1800 / year for the 03 ZHP and 2011 848 EVO

27 y/o get all the good driver discount thingies, no points on license and only an HOV violation 4 years ago in VA IIRC.

I'm at +4 points on my VA license...

PA

$2000 a year for 3 cars

Full coverage 06 330i. $500 deduct

Full coverage 04 Grand Cherokee. $500 deduct and roadside assistance

Comprehensive on the 99 M3 right now. I basically drive it to and from the car wash then quick laps down the interstate.

That is with progressive and random fact. I have a DUI (I was young and dumb). That is my only ticket and it has been expunged but not from my driving record.

I had GEICO forever. They wanted $1800 more a year so I switched to progressive.

Dude that's cheap! When I was 21 I had a brand new Toyota 4x4 (first one with a V6) and I was paying $220 per month thru State Farm! That's $2,640 a year!

Now that I'm a old fart and married I pay $220 per month for my 2005 BMW 330CI, 2006 Toyota 4Runner and a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 4x4. This is with Allstate in Nevada with a homeowners discount.

Deductible has always been that.

Our rep always changes drivers around to help rates...I think I'm on a SUV now.

Funny thing is that my rate is around the same as my dad's E92 328...which is considered a high performance car as well...lol

Blown. Away. By. Your. Cheap. Rates.
Just did another check and I'd still be paying well over $300 a month for insurance on my car if I wasn't under a parent's policy. Jeesh.
I don't know how you guys under 25 are getting such good rates if you're not under a parent's policy. Mind blowing.

I'm 23 and I pay 71.xx/month for full coverage on my '05 with Shelter Insurance. I have no tickets/accidents that my insurance knows about. They abused my wallet until after I turned 21. This also is lower because I have a $1000 deductible. I plan on covering most repairs myself and really only need the insurance if I or someone else totals my car.

FYI, my insurance has told me that that "25" thing is kind of a relic. Most models are complex enough now that there is just a proportional decrease as you age into a less derp-prone mature-er version of yosef. On that note, my insurance now is something like 1/6th of what it was 5 years ago.

Marriage and homeownership apparently weigh more heavily into the calculation than your age does anymore.

Pretty difficult to generate a valid basis for comparison for rates given the impact of age, location, record, coverage, and other products carried with the insurer, but for what it's worth, I'm at $46/mo for the ZHP, $58 for the F-250, both full, both 300/500.

I wish my rates would get back down there. I pay about 5K a year for 6 cars...but I have 2 teenagers in the fold, soon to add a third. Added the 6th car, a 1989 Suburban, and it actually lowered my insurance by 800 a year. As the older two age out of the inexperienced driver surcharge it should come down significantly. All drivers in the household are ticket and accident free. (not counting my ***cough cough*** 2 improper equipment reductions in the past 2 years)

On topic for the OP, my 19 YO son just bought his first BMW...a ZHP to boot, today! The insurance quote to add that to our policy will be about 650 per year. His own personal policy quote was 1280 per year with 250K/500K coverage and a 500 dollar deductible.

I see evidence to the contrary here where I live. This is the sole reason I don't have insurance under only my name.
Every insurance agent I've talked to told me it's high because of my age. There's just no getting around it, unfortunately. :(

Fair enough. My insurance didn't do much when I turned 25 that it didn't do every other 6 month renewal period before that.....just a gradual decrease. Buying a house and getting married a few years later did more. Spoke to my company about it and that's what they told me.

I'm sure it varies by company and state.

my insurance didnt do anything when I turned 25 and when I bought a house it actually went up which made no damn sense at all. I am under my parents policy - though I'm listed as the primary (only) driver of my car. Raising the collision deductible had the biggest impact. Since I've never actually made a collision claim, I figured having a high deductible wouldn't hurt. Lowering the comprehensive down to $100 barely effected my rates.

Switch companies. I used to be on Libert Mutual. They kept jacking up our rates by roughly $200/year every year for seemingly no reason. They also kept rating me against my dad's 535xi even though we explained a million times that I don't drive that car. They said that unless I was to be specifically excluded from that car, their policy is rate the highest risk driver against the highest risk car (aluminum body panels really jack up the insurance rates for that E60).

We've since switched to Amica and are saving almost $1500/year for slightly better coverage.

My wife and I are currently 32/31 yo. We insure through 21st Century and they have been great so far. For the new X3 and my Nissan Altima SE-R we pay about $790/6 months, but dropping the Altima and adding the ZHP will bring the rate down to $712/6 months.. We have fairly decent coverage, and our deductibles are $1000 all around. I am happy with that.. :)

Wow. I am with state farm. I have pretty high coverages. I run 250k/500k with a 500 deductable. I have both a 2009 audi a3 and a 2009 135 insured both with collision and comprehensive. I pay 595.33 every 6 months, or basically $100 per month for both cars. I insure my house, my unbrella policy, my life insurance all through state farm. I highly recommend everyone having all their policies with the same insurer, as rates get better. Btw, im 36 as of last month.

I'm with USAA, about $350 per car times 4 plus another $350 for having an under 25 year old male (our son) on the policy but he's had a ticket (speeding). That's around $1700 for a 6 month policy, house & valuables policy with USAA too so we get a multi-policy discount.

^^^ I hope you mean $650/6-mo. :)

I think my rate is about average... I actually would have had lower rates with esurance, but for some unexplainable reason they have me as involved in an accident (when I've never been in one and all of the other insurers have me as clean).

I rent an apartment, have a BS degree, and use the car for pleasure driving only and 10,000 miles a year.

EDIT: When I was researching around I got quotes from $380/6-mo to $900/6-mo (esurance wanted over 1200/6-mo to insure me! Accidents must suck bad!!!).

We are now paying about $900 a year. We moved to a more affluent neighborhood. Apparently the risk of us getting into an accident with more expensive cars involved drove out rates up by about $100 a year.

NC, Integon insurance company under GMAC, Full coverage '99 323i and "06 Tundra, $126/month 2 months I don't pay though, so it works out to $1,260/year. $500 deductable, $100k/$100k coverage w/ free towing coverage. 1 point on my license (I think).

I think we're getting ready to put Kyle on my insurance plan and add his '99 Tacoma. He's had an accident recently and more tickets, so we'll see how much it goes up!

Realistically it's probably split something like: $20/mo each for Dane and his wife, $60/mo for his daughter, and $160 for his son.

Mine is something like $1700/year at the moment. But the insurance company seems to have forgotten to apply my good student discount, so I need to call them about that. My GPA's only gone up, so there's no reason I should have lost it.
