Sorry to hear. Did it torpedo the side of the car? Those are the worst. Hit before you ever see it coming.

Hope she's not banged up too badly.

Whitexi

Thank you everyone, I am fine and the damage is all cosmetic.

War wounds on the passenger side include but are not limited to what can not be seen such as.....

Dented hood, smashed signal, headlight has one broken top tab but is pushed back a bit, grill is poppin....literately!, Bumper tab is broken if I had to guess as it sticks out, Lower splash shield is cracked, bumper has scuffs.

I was driving home thinking how if I didn't have insurance I would have had to pay $485 for my new windshield. I saw two run out and then a third I swerved out of instinct but It was in mid air jumping out the bushes. It was really dramatic and I heard it hit and then barrel roll under the car. I stopped thinking it was on the side of the road and then it was actually under the car.....kicking. I now had to back up and then it got up and walked off into the woods. It was a small doe, so I then pulled off onto my road to my house no less and ran back to see if it was there but it was gone.

Here are two pics

Yea I stopped and was shocked from the impact and then after a few seconds it started kicking around and I just thought WTF why can't this crap end already. I was paranoid because it happened right over a blind hill so I had to back up quick and try and move over before I got hit by a car.

Man that's crazy. I was driving last week to work on the interstate and looked in my rearview mirror just as a deer was flying in the air off of the van directly behind me, close call for me, it came out of nowhere, it was so crazy seeing the damage created within the blink of an eye. ( sorry but I had to share )

Hahaha just a clump in the signal. Under neath not so much but there was a blast of fur that hit the windshield and came in the car all over.

I filed the claim and will be going to get. One estimate today at a BMW collision center. I will see what they say. I want the hood replaced because its tweeked and doesn't shut right. My pull tab in the grill sits out now and im hoping it stays shut.

I get $35 a day for a rental from my insurance. Wonder what I can get, probably a cobolt....sweet.

So heres an estimate from the BMW certified collision center.

Its at $2,781.69 so far. They said there could be suspension issues though and wont know until they actually get it. So the price is gonna go up im sure because the car now pulls and the wheels off.

I have aftermarket headlights, signals though and they can only order me a halogen and oem items. So what they said I could do is order new parts with what the cost of the replacement parts will be. So I can buy my new black grills, clears, and headlights.

The parts will be new BMW items they don't do used so I gotta see what the adjuster says now. Im thinking its not gonna fly but its worth a try so we shall see.

As for a rental i have a choice between hertz and Enterprise so i gotta see what they offer.

danewilson77
05-27-2011, 02:27 PM
My adjustor told me since my car was >2 years old...she had the right to shop for aftermarket.

Whitexi
05-27-2011, 02:51 PM
Yea thats what I figured but where the hell are they gonna just get a hood like that you know. Im gonna see but im gonna tell them I want it fixed asap no beating around the bush and waiting B/S.

So whats the deal with your car are they doing aftermarket?

danewilson77
05-27-2011, 03:09 PM
I took the payout and did all the work myself. $1620.00 after they subtracted the $500.00 for deductible.

I was able to replace both CA's, CAB's, Sway bar and bushings, ///M3 fogs, Lamin-X, ///M3 valve stem caps, keyhole cover.....and I've got a front bumper project working with some colleagues of the site.

I was able to do extra because I did the work myself...hence some of the eye candy items above. Plus....the body work I am having done is coming outta that money as well. Roof spray, rear bumper spray, and finally getting a dent pulled from rear passenger door....where I believe, a deer ran into it.

Something is still tweaked with my suspension though. Troubleshooting in progress. It may be that the FK's are beat already. My next suspension will undoubtedly be KW V2's.

Get this......today we were driving to drop my car off......sun high overhead.....son is in front of me in his Benz....and no sheeeeet....this lil deer just friggen explodes outta the forest. It was about 100 yards in front of him but damn....you never know.

Whitexi
05-27-2011, 06:06 PM
Dam that's crazy, no more deer accidents please lol.

Ugh idk what to do they asked if I had a place in mind and I told them yes the BMW center and they said that's fine. Idk what the adjuster will say though, but I'm hoping its yes.

+1. I noticed when I went through usaa online....all of their "recommended" body shops/mechanics were pretty obscure shops in the area. No Benz, BMW, etc......pretty much Ford, Chevy, and then a bunch of indy shops. My thinking was that they were trying to save on labor rate. My concern was that these shops wouldn't "know" BMW. Sooo....there was a hidden option to choose a place different than the ones offerred.....and I hit it.

All I do is talk and deal with body shops all day...Body work is body work, but if a mechanical part needs replaced than BMW is the place. I always use an indy body shop, a very good one!!! Our BMW dealer with a body shop attached, can't paint for shit. Its really hit or miss with bodyshops...but insurance shops are baaaaaad news, becuase 8/10 they are cutting corners somewhere to save the insurance co. money.

When we totaled our MINI, our insurance company, AAA, found comparables and paid us out based on that. We were one of the first people in San Diego to have a MINI, so AAA ended up going outside of the city (but within California). They were able to find a similar MINI in San Francisco. They based our payout on that.

When a family member wrecked the 5 series, AAA used comparables again but came up with an average price, since there were plenty of 5 series available to compare against.

Still, where are they getting those prices they are comparing? That I do not know.

So the adjuster looked at it today looked at the estimate from BMW and said ok drop it off. I said theres no issues with it going there and he said nope call and see when you can drop it off.

I dropped it off today and they took me to get my rental. I will say I felt sick for some reason leaving my car there but I can't wait to get it back.
