This caught my eyes this weekend (not my car). Obviously had enough of an impact in me to get to whip out cell phone and take a pic.

Reminds me of rally cars. Could be neat at night. The big question is, what kind of fromage am I getting into?
Flame away...

Looks excellent for back roads and scaring the crap out of people.
BMW rally cars live on!

I don't think it looks half bad, actually. If anything, the bumper would ruin it, but an M-Tech I would fix that right away...

I can't really find them for sale anywhere. I guess the guy just put on a regular add-on fog light.
The advantage is that you don't see them too much I guess.
If you look up close, they look like AE imitation:

I guess this is what it makes me think off:

Idk, I think it throws off the look of the front end of the car. Our cars really don't lack light. I travel on some of the darkest roads in Maine and have absolutely no problem :dunno just my opinion though.

Watch out for moose... :) I love Maine!
I'm wondering how those lights fit in there? Must not be too deep?

It was a very well done job with a horizontal brace and lights on top. The lights might be those but I am not sure.

Good comment GR330zhp, a practical and sensible way to analyze the situation.

Haha yeah. First time I had seen one on the road it was about 2am, I was in my Jetta with my best friend. I was in an area where normally, in the Jetta, I would be boogying (speeding) haha. That night I was for some reason doing about 35mph. Sure enough there was an ENORMOUS moose right across the road. Hit the brakes with plenty of distance. And we just gazed like two idiots lol. Did about 10mph for the next 2-3 miles. I do have euro fogs on that car though which are very very very bright!
Sorry for going OT lol

Oli, Amazon.com sells Hella fogs. They're about 2 inches bigger. Would these work (they're cheaper)?

Here are the same lights as the ones you posted. The retail price is cheaper. Not sure how the final price fares with shipping. The manufacturer is selling these:

Frankly, I was not thinking about being able to see better (even though it could not hurt). It was more for the nostalgic, slightly cheezy mod idea.
If more people would post their thoughts, that would be cool.
Thanks Boss, you are awesome as always, those links are helpful. Indeed, the second one is probably what the guy had setup.
If I do this, I'll make sure to hit the Amazon link through our site so we reap the benefits.

No problem, Oli. I think your link is about $10 cheaper (total). Don't worry about supporting the site (by using our Amazon affiliate links) if you can save some money using the other link. Saving money is the important thing.

IDK why... I just love the rally look. I would rock lights.

On some cars it just looks right.

Do I sense an indirect way to tell me that those rally lights would not "lift the skirt" of my e46?

I didn't actually look closely at the first picture. In particular, my comment was in reference to the lights that are on the outside of the E9 (last picture with Oregon plates). I think those look right on some cars. Definitely looks right on that one.
As for whether I think yours would look good (on the inside of the hood), I prefer these kinds of lights on the outside (on top of the bumper). Just a preference, though.

I would only be worried about the effects of less air through the kidneys and any possibility of diminished cooling...

I've been meaning to ask... what is "fromage"? Never heard of this word. The definitions I'm getting are relating to cheese... ?
Oli77

Yes yes fromage=cheese. I was trying to be French about it I guess, going around to asking the member of the forum whether the fog-lights-behind-the-kidney-grills look was cheesy.
Now in return, please explain why cheesy is used to mean lame, ricey, obnoxious, etc... cause you see, I like cheese and don't like associating it with negative connotations.
I get a feeling those hidden fog might not be cheesy after all.

No. Not cheesy or lame or rice...
I think, if anything, it looks cleaner "hidden" like that.

Honestly I'm not too sure why cheesy is used as a negative term. I guess it's just become a part of pop culture...
