They did that.....it's a ZHP right!?

I counter this vote and vote Pre-facelift M3 is by far the best.

Imo its just the m3 front end is starting to look outdated however it still does look aggressive.

I disagree... compared to the newer offerings...I still prefer the look of my ///M over them any day of the week! Everything about how BMW designed the E46 chassis including the interior....perfection! :thumbsup

There are other's who feel as you do Vas and say that the look is outdated....that all depends on the person :) Whenever I pull my ///M to the dealer, everyone comes out to check it out....just because the car is older does not mean it is dated...

...I counter this vote and vote Pre-facelift M3 is by far the best.

Obviously, I agree with Ry here...:thumbsup

cakM3
11-21-2012, 12:11 PM
Vas,

What I am saying is that I prefer the E46 M3 styling just the way it is. For the ///M, the styling is perfect. Very aggressive styling in front to match its "raw" character. It's perfect! :thumbsup It has that more muscular brute personality about it....

The ZHP being a facelift is also perfect for that car. I think that the facelift styling more suits the character of the ZHP....a more refined look and feel. :thumbsup Of course adding my OEM M3 side mirrors only adds to the sportiness that is ZHP :biggrin

That's what I'm saying Vas, and since I happen to own both I can say this about both my cars ;)

Agreed. The M3 looks better in it's "pre-facelift" design, and the zhp looks good in it's facelift design.

The M3 technically got a face-lift in 2003.5, they received 19 inch wheels, LED tails, and a strut bar.

Johal,

The bootlid also got a minor change with "facelift" ///Ms. The trunk handle is extended with facelift ///Ms and 19" wheels were an option. My 2004 came with 18" wheels.

I'll vote facelift also, but now to get this thread back on track:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c288/jhermes/P1060120.jpg

got the car back from the shop earlier, $100 deductible for new RR hub bearings. Nick couldn't figure out what the misfire was, everything (coils, wires, fuel pump, etc.) tested fine. He thinks maybe there was something in the gas line that worked it's way through the system. I guess I only ran the car for maybe 30 seconds when it happened and just drove the E21 that night.

Later this week/weekend I will be installing all the new front end suspension parts on the E21 with the exception of the two bushings that hold the swaybar on, those should be here Monday but they are easy to replace on their own. I'm thinking next week I will be able to have the E21 in good enough shape where I can start working on the E46 and dealing with the many parts that have been piling up in my garage (oil change, diff fluid change, coolant system, underdrive pulleys, M3 autodim mirror, etc.).

How long did it take you to do that? I am looking into the possibility of plastidipping my winter wheels. They are E36 Contours and the black wheels and Mystic Blue just don't go together.

I'm plastadipping my 17" M68's!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-BaDDJL7O_ec/ULFVtoBCBQI/AAAAAAAAEfo/9kFfRgjImpg/s1024/2012-11-14%252015.59.54.jpg

I screwed up on two though but luckily I can just peal it off. DO NOT spray when the paint is cold. It sprays all chunky like throw up if you do. Keep the paint inside at room temperature or even leave the can half submerged in warm/hot water before spraying. The warmer it is, the finer mist it sprays which helps give uniformity.

This is the outcome of cold Plastidip:

I just got the new Gold Metalizer plastidip to put overtop the black...so it'll go from dark bronze up to gold depending on how many coats. I'm going for a nice dark bronze look.

You know Ryan, I've never really been a fan of black wheels on any car, but after doing this and seeing it, I have to admit, it looked daaaaamn good.

Took about 5 hours at a very relaxed pace. Plus my wheels were extremely dirty.

Here is the final product.

My car had black (painted, not plastidipped) 135's on when I bought it. I ended up going back to the stock look but it was a hard decision. It looks 100x better in person than in pictures.

How does this kit compare in price to what you paid for your plastidip? It would probably be another $12 for shipping.

Black and Gold = Bronze (https://www.dipyourcar.com/product.php?productid=12)

Heck, maybe we needs us a plastidip thread in the future... :santa2

The link isnt working on my phone but since I just did black I did not buy a kit.

I just went to Home Depot and bought 4 cans and a spray handle. Total cost was about 30 bucks.

I am thinking about adding the silver metalizer or the pearl in the future though.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I do like the LM reps, but I also like the style 135's because I was originally wanting to make a 330i zhp wagon. M54B30, zhp control arms, steering rack etc, 6 speed etc.. But now, I need some V8 in my life :drool And the lm's look apart!

PS. My car was is always "warm" before I push it passed 3k rpms. The PO installed an OEM BMW thermostat but it apparently keeps car running a few degrees cooler than usual. On cold days like today the temp gauge will never reach 1/2 way, it goes about 1/3 of the way.. It's weird, on a hot day, it will warm up 1/2 way no problem.

My dad said I wouldn't be able to make it up his driveway so I had to try. I made it about 99% up before it shoved me to where the car is in the pic. This is the peak of his driveway and it's probably 3/4 of a mile long to this point. The rest of the driveway is around the top and goes back down a bit on the other side of the mountain.

This is the furthest I got so far being stuck wise. I usually make it to where you can see in the background before losing my momentum and traction.

Towhooks FTW! Even though my dads chevy duramax 4x4 was having a hard time. I had to aid quite a bit on my end in the car for it to get out, otherwise it wasn't going anywhere.

Snow is awesome! :) I've been having a blast driving my sister's A4 in frigid conditions with ice and snow on the ground 80% of the time. Winter tires make a big difference! My car is at home alone just staying warm in the garage. It hasn't got any snow action yet. But my winter tires on on their 3rd season...so it's not the best for deep snow anymore.

The picture doesn't show the severity of it. This is a mountain that i went up, not a little hill. That part of the driveway is at least a half mile uphill. Like I said before, many 4x4s didn't make it up this.

Ryans323i

Oh god. We can't even make it up hills like that with winters? Oh well looks like ill have to get used to it.

I made it up a mountain that had a nice layer of black ice with my previous cheap allseasons. I didn't realize it was ice, and was wondering why my traction light was coming on. It was the stopping on the back down side of the mountain that didn't happen. Never experienced that feeling before in my life, brake pedal clunking and pushing my foot off. I ran three stop signs and coasted into the nearest gas station. And that's where the car stayed til the ice melted.

I think all cars do pretty well if the ground is flat, but once there's elevation changes it's more in the driver's hands. If you're really curious, ask David (Mtnman) about it. We live in a mountainous area, nothing is flat.

Rovert

Aggressive winter tires that can handle heavy sloppy snow and ice would make a RWD BMW shine better than most FWD and trucks if the snow isn't as high as the undercarriage. Being a photographer it's very hard to take pictures of the severity of hills without proper angles which are usually very time consuming to get into place to take the pics. Our cars can handle decently steep inclines when straight. Through in a corner and it makes it that much harder. When going straight 100% of your traction goes into moving forward which is what we need in a RWD. When we corner we might use 20% into cornering which leaves 80% for forward movement which may or may not allow you to continue forward! The next thing is.....DRIVE BACKWARDS! :) I've done that many times in certain super steep areas!! LOL The car goes right up and thanks to 50/50 weight distribution I can still turn the car while the drive wheels pull the car up! hahah. Finally I can go places where those crazy Corolla's can go. Those crazy Japanese cars are indestructible in winter driving scenarios! When you think everyone is stuck, a 1982 Accord plows right on through with all seasons!

My Pirelli Sottozero tires got me through ice and packed snow without incident today. That's right, RWD baby.
I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the hell people with AWD cars were crawling. Absolutely unnecessary in those areas. Had to get around them, they were that friggin' slow.

Nobody at work believes me when I say you really don't need AWD, you just need good snow tires and some skill.

They've been conditioned to believe the marketing hype. It's okay, let them walk into BMW dealerships and buy xdrive cars for no reason; it just means bmw has money to make cool cars.

AWD is still better than RWD given the same driver technique, tires, and conditions. It's not fair to judge a great driver with a well prepared RWD setup versus an 'ok' driver with no setup...LOL. Driving my sister's A4 quattro in the ice and snow gives me a heck of a lot better maneuverability than my car does. I never have to worry about sidestepping the rear out dramatically and her car I can hold a sideways angle so easily while it accelerates out of the line like a bat out of cold h#ll!! Hahah.

But since this is a daily ZHP pic thread...I'd posting my nightly one. Dane I hope you're happy with this composition. LOL.

With RMS it was a little over $1,200 in parts before oil, filter, trans oil, trans seals (input and shifter-selector were leaking on mine) feeding a good friend (a fellow ZHP owner) a few meals and making sure he had plenty of beer. Probably close to $1,500... All OEM stuff...

I thought my RMS was leaking too, and it looked as though it was about to be, but it was actually my input shaft on the trans. My shifter-selector was leaking too, so we went ahead and replaced all 3 seals...

^Nice! Gotta love the satisfaction of doing things yourself.

I have to give some credit to my friend that helped. Without him, it would have taken me at least twice as long (if not longer), I would have spent at least another $200 in tools (quality wobble extensions are not cheap!) and I very well could have messed something expensive up (thank goodness for his experience!)...

But yes, I was up under that car nearly every step of the way, and when I took her for a ride after the job was done and she acted and felt like a brand new car again, it was quite satisfying to say the least... Thanks!

The Saturday before Christmas it took me about an hour to get the car safely up to 24" off the ground, then the Thursday following about 5 hours pulling the trans out. It was at that point that we realized we didn't have the seals for the trans, so luckily my friend is in good with a local shop, the parts were there the next morning at 10am. Probably 4 more hours that day putting it all back together, and an hour the next day getting her safely down from 24" jack stands...

That time includes running to Auto-zone, grabbing food, drinking a few beers, running to get an air compressor, borrowing some tools, etc too...

Thanks! I'm not sure I'll be able to write up a DIY that easy, it was pretty tough at times, and apparently our cars can vary greatly on some things like the starter bolts. Thank goodness my starter is "threaded" I think we blew an hour just getting it properly aligned on a set pin and the nuts snugged up. It was frustrating at times, but its done! Hopefully she'll last another 118,000 mies with no clutch issues!

Wow, that is awesome.

I would go insane trying to change out my clutch on jack stands!

It really wasn't too bad up on 24" jack stands. We were able to sit upright in the driveshaft tunnel and look directly at all of the bell housing bolts. Bringing that transmission down on my chest was a little unnerving, I'm no tooth-pick, but no body builder by any means. Heaving it back up in there went easier than expected though...

No but they look fairly similar. They are Rotiform BLQ's, pretty popular in the VW/Audi scene. I didn't have too much variety in wheel choice with a 5x100 bolt pattern. They have really grown on me.
