I prefer the ambers with that color. It's a nice contrast.

+1. Ambers look better IMHO.

Hot tip from one of my SCCA friends and son of the creator of the ZHP: Get PFC or Carbotech pads. I'll be replacing my Hawks with PFC as well next time.

Yup, I kinda regret not getting something like DTC-60s instead of the HPS - that will be a next year thing. At least for now replacements are like $20, with the FCP warranty and PayPal return shipping compensation. I already have a new set of front pads that will be going in this weekend

I agree Allan. You have seen the transformation of this car from when I got it to now. The paint has depth where I have detailed this car. I still have a few more panels to work on. I really love the shine and depth of this color. Mystic Blue is an amazing color when given a proper detail :thumbsup

I have new glass going in on Friday so the car will be good for daily driving duties after that...

Your car looks mint!

Uuuuuuurgh my Mystic really needs a paint correction. I corrected it back in 2015 but it got a bit swirled by crappy BMW dealer non-touchless automatic car wash. Then when I was at the track yesterday I went off so I used their hose to get the mud out, and should've known better. It must be some very hard well water, because damn my paint is super-etched :mad

Thanks but my ZHP is one of those 10' foot "car looks mint" condition car due to poor previous owners who have neglected this poor ZHP. I will be spending the next few years restoring this car back to where it deserves to be. Worse case... if the motor goes then I will be swapping in an S54 heart and contacting Shawn on details... but I will be keeping this 2004 ZHP in my collection of cars because of this beautiful Mystic Blue paint. Someday the car will be resprayed completely and finished to better than show room condition - for me it's not about what the car is worth... it is the journey that matters...

I picture I found from ~10 years ago. I still had the Style 67s on the e46m3. The e30 has a set of Throwing-stars from a e34 m5 (the rears have a slightly different offset, I think from a south African e32 or something like that, I forgot), and with a machined section / lip (RF wheel is a replacement stock one, not machined).

It's a 6 speed. No way would I have done a 5 speed with that rear end!

Surprisingly, my mpg has skyrocketed after the swap. I used to get 300ish miles to a tank, now my predicted tank is over 400. And I have to drive like a granny, since the clutch is fresh.

Testing out these cheap e36m3 style mirrors today. Significantly lighter than stock & better aerodynamics, but not sure how I feel about the looks. Will likely paint them dog dick red to match, but need to be sure I like them before putting that kind of effort in.

I'm going to be up front: they're not my cup of tea, although I can appreciate the lighter weight and smaller profile. They look a touch too aftermarket, but that may be because they're black rather than red. But I'm also the odd man out because I actually enjoy the looks of the gargantuan square mirrors of our coupes with the little nubbins on the top.

+1 to the above. I think the narrower profile just makes the proportions look a bit off to me, along with the cutout for the supports (although aero is improved with that)

Yeah something about them doesn't flow well with the car to me, but e46 M3 mirrors don't either. Something about the facelift coupe makes the square mirrors look better.

The actual e36 m3 mirrors definitely look better than these, but were still too racey for a sports sedan.

Lol I need to repaint the mirror caps on my stockers so I may go ahead and paint these anyway just to see. Was hoping for a lightweight alternative to stock that was somewhat unique.

It's the ZHP of the E90D. So far it's been great. It reminds me much more of my old ZHP with the sedan rigidity for quicker turn-in compared to my E46M coupe. It's also nice to have 425 ft-lbs of torque to make any surprise rolling acceleration passes.

Agreed. Personally I like the E46 coupe more than the sedan, but there's just something about an E90 sedan M sport that you just don't get with the E92s. I'd go with an N54 car just because of the massive tuning potential it has

I agree with you there! The rear diffuser is dark grey metallic. It should have been black to match the shadow line. But with current design black might have looked too stark due to lack of additional aero styling. Maybe I can plastidip it black just to see....or better yet just photoshop. LMAO.

I did mean 320si, a special homologation model (https://www.carscoops.com/2017/04/used-car-guide-2005-2006-bmw-320si-is/). It's really the last no-nonsense driver focused 3 that puts handling over power with a special high-revving NA 4 pot built in Hams Hall. I mean just look at that carbon fiber valve cover:

And it even ticks the "crippling design flaw from factory" box with its cracking cylinder liners so it's a true BMW.

Taking some roads to explore what this car's advantage are and what things I need to watch for.

In the end it feels closer to my old ZHP than my M but......with a FAR more robust push when I hit the go pedal. Being used to a NA engine, the corner you see is what I was riding on back to back to back which usually takes a combo of 2nd and 3rd gear with any E46 including an M. But the car below, it got upset in 2nd because it wants to put over 400ftlbs down almost instantly which isn't good for keeping a smooth line. Third would pull me out of apex at a low enough RPM that when I throttled, boost could build slow enough to smoothly transition torque to the ground and within a few hundred RPMs, I'd be at max power moving far too quick for the next turn. Good thing BMWs have decent stock brakes. LOL

Yup we can import a lot! I see some interesting cars every now and then on the roads here. I’ve decided to keep my options open with other vehicles to experience more. Being a car enthusiast to me is not blocking myself to any one car. My best friend kind of talked to me about that after he’s gone through so many various cars over the last years. He’s made mistakes and has had his wins. I want to “try” to follow what he has got to experience. I’m not sure how successful I will be as I am much more long term than him. But you never know. This diesel was a step out of my comfort zone. [emoji51]

I also know there are cars that are nice to borrow and give back to the owner vs cars that you want to own. My friends R8 V10 is the “borrow” category. After all the first time winter 2020 snow drivers have crashed and/or safely got home to make hot cocoa, I went out to see what this car feels like in the snow. The eLSD is really nice when it's slippery out and makes it easy to modulate sideways action without screwing up any newb jerky drift recoveries...LOL. It still falls short in the dry though and needs a real LSD to put all its power down correctly. I bought the car with new DWS06 mounted in July so I was interested to see how these "UHP all-seasons" react in mucky, heavy snow. I tried a lot of scenarios and stuffed the car into snow banks but it moved through as the tractor it is! LOL Then got back with a mild snowstache...

LOL Then got back with a mild snowstache...

...then after a good sleep I woke up to a beautiful sunrise!

Last shot of the carbon trunk before it gets repainted back to TiAg. Weather has been rather...odd...here in VA. So that'll be getting painted in the washroom. It's rather ridiculously large for some reason. Think the previous home owner used it as a pantry. I'll tell the fiance after the fact. Plenty of time while the car is hiding for the winter. Hood will get the same treatment later on.

Eventually I'll be pulling the front bumper off and either repairing or replacing it. After many, maaany cross country trips and track days, it's at the end of its lifespan.

I'd love to know what kind of repairs you will do to your bumper and how. My bumper is also at the end of its ropes, and i want to try to prolong replacing it if i can.

Pretty much sanding the whole thing down and repainting. There's a hairline crack under my passenger fog lamp. That, I'll probably use some fiberglass on the underside to seat it and maaaybe a polyurethane to seal the top side of the crack. Then sand it again. It's worked on a few projects before for minute issues. But, I'll need to make sure it will play nice with the surrounding bumper plastics and whatever base coat I use.

Next thing is to look at the plastics behind the bumper. When these things get old, the clips mounted on the bumper will break, causing the edges to pull away from the underside of the headlights. I'm hoping anything I find behind it is repaireable to some extent.

Honestly? If it's too far gone, I may just bite the bullet and pick up another ZHP bumper in the primer and start fresh.

Took her to my first track day at Charlotte Motor Speedway yesterday. Car was great, the new suspension really paid off. Feels pretty much perfect. The new weak link are definitely the tires, especially running stock staggered sizes. 245 square would be ideal. It also felt like it really ran out of breath past 4200rpm, but maybe that's just clogged cats and the bugged MS45 tune (haven't gotten the DISA knock fix yet). It very slowly crept up on a R33 Skyline on the oval which has 250hp I believe, so I don't think the car is down on hp. I'll have to troubleshoot more.

Nice! Yeah tires and brakes will be your weakest link - I found the HPS pads are okay to start but if you do a lot of events then you'll wear through them very fast. Tires as well - my Conti ECS did not hold up well with extended use, the heat was just too much.

I feel my power output is similar to yours as well - I do burn some oil so I suspect my cats are somewhat clogged as well.

Also jealous of your ability to take nice pics. And the fact that I've extended storage of my car until end of April - just too busy with school so might as well save a bit of cash, and parts hoard

I've got the HPS pads too, I used to have Cool Carbon ST pads, but they are borderline useless on the street. Took at least 10 60-0 slam stops to get them to bite. The HPS also squeak like crazy, but at least cold bite is OK. For my next set I want to get Carbotech or PFC, which my SCCA friend says are the best options. You might want to check those out too.

Not sure about the tires yet, since it's ultimately still a street car. I think the Ventus RS4 might be the most I can get away with. As for pics, all it takes is strapping a $20 vintage lens onto a big ass sensor and the rest takes care of itself. What you should truly be jealous of is this Spec E46 that only weighed in at 2600lbs. The guy said he has to find ways to increase the weight because it's too light for the class spec now.

Already have a set of DTC-60s ready to go for this summer, trying to stick with what I can get from FCP for the warranty. It'll be a bit of a PITA since it's not a streetable pad, I'll be swapping between that and my HPS for the street.

If you do a lot of events then a set of square style 68s and RS4s are the way to go - the RS4 will wear and grip much better than a street tire on track. Also damn, can't imagine driving an E46 that has 500+ lbs removed, that's insane

Installed spacers to flush out the tractor more. Now that I have got it all sorted out internally and the engine can full breathe, this car has been transformed yet again.....now I can think about the trivial exterior things. LOL

Feels even better! I always wondered what it was like to drive a really quick car. The Model X I drive is one of the fastest feeling vehicles I've ever driven in city/highway scenario because of how quick throttle response and it's immense torque but now this stage 2 335d just adds to that. The rolling power is equivalent to the V10 Gallardo/V12 SL65 AMG area. Stock diesels lose significant power in the top portion of the rev range but this car just keeps adding which actually feels like it's overpowering the human driver. I just have to give up in fourth gear when I'm approaching 120mph because the thrust feels the same as at 30mph in 3rd. LOL, I'm sure in your 997 TT it easily feels faster than you can mentally deal with! It's an addictive mind ((insert expletive here)).

The key is mastering the control of your addiction so it doesn’t hurt you or anyone else. LOL.

That being said, I still enjoy NA throttle response more in lower speed cornering roads. There is a wonderful degree of throttle control in all sections of any given corner that you don’t fully get with a turbo vehicle and a ZHP is an ideal vehicle for the majority of the fun roads we drive on.

...it’s also for diesel exhaust fluid when you have all the fancy expensive emissions tech intact. Mine had rapid scheduled disassembly as it is the weakest link of the engine, which a part of it happened to fail on me. Now the engine has been bulletproofed. LOL I didn’t mean to have to do this “mod” so early in ownership but when life throws you coal, well you roll it!

Photography is very much a tolerance hobby. The sky is the limit. At any level from beginning to professional, when you nail what you wanted to capture and are happy about it, that’s the most important feeling in your efforts. Even if taken by your phone.

So if one wants to get better they can. If it has to be put on hold it’s still OK because no matter what, your own images become priceless gifts to you and hopefully others.
