Awesome pics. Really shows how much better of a camera Imola dude has :cheers

i think part of it is that trevor's window is up, Imola Dude's is down...

but trevor's does look like it was shot with my old blackberry bold.

If you drive down here in the tank then I'm not answering my phone. Our friendship is solely based around the red wagon.

ha. we definitely wouldn't take the tank.... i'd have to be hospitalized from Bad Seat Neck Pain, but couldn't afford to go to the hospital because we'd be broke from filling up 294890238 times on the way down there.

so clearly, the Touring is the healthier and more economical choice.

speaking of the tank, my wife is refusing to dump it for an X5. something about..... me promising not to buy any more cars.... ;) she's got a point. dang.

Between putting gas in the tank and visiting a hospital in the US, you'd have to file bankruptcy before you made it back to the border.

And I don't see her point. You only bought what? 3 cars in 2016? Pshhh

Imola was taking a pic via 7 Plus and I was using my 6S Plus.

The sun was in my face while trying to expose Imola in the dark shadow of the sun which made for a hard time for any camera sensor short of a full frame SLR. Haha.

For my car, the sun was pointing at it which made for a lot less effort for the camera sensor to gather light since it was like having a mega spotlight against it.

It's neat to see the dynamics of light source importance and the strengths/weaknesses of camera sensors. [emoji1417]

i'm kinda digging this green. reminds me of a '73 911 RS.

what i'm not digging is the poor blending between new paint and old on my driver's side. it's not really noticeable in sunlight, but in low light situations like this cloudy one, it's like, BOOM, i don't match. will either have to have it repainted, or have the hood/fenders/front doors repainted. barf.

I was going to say that looks off. Why was it not blended?

yeah, it's not nearly as dark as imola. but i don't like it.

I was going to say that looks off. Why was it not blended?

the weird part is that it was blended much better on the other side - so much so that it's hard to tell unless you're really looking. but on the driver's side it's pretty obvious. i'm going to have it fixed.

The BBS CH wheels are heavy especially when compared to the ARC-8s but if you're just street driving/cruising with your BMW then it does not really matter and you will have the best looking wheels for our cars in my opinion. If you're interested in tracking the car occasionally then getting lighter wheels makes perfect sense. Unfortunately for my M3, with the Brembo GT BBKs I recently installed I can no longer use my 18 inch ARC-8s so they are now put away in my garage until I'm able to source another E46 M3 Comp Pkg to replace my current ///M... ;)

I would like to get this into track-worthy condition, so weight is of some concern. I've loved CSL style wheels for so long, and every time I think I'm going with something else, I always come back to them. So, I'm going with Sportline 8s. Same flow-formed manufacturing process as Arc-8s, and 20lbs.

They definitely do look nice. And their weight isn't terrible, still 4-5 lbs lighter than the factory style 135. Closer in weight to the 17" style 68 wheels of the ZSP. What I didn't know is that they were prone to bending. Then again, I only just realized they're flow formed and not forged. Does BBS make a forged version?

I do not agree. They are tough as fawk.
The previous owner bent the shit out of them by sliding sideways into a curb (and not telling me about it). The wheel guy who fixed them for me even said that the only reason he was able to even fix them is because they are a high quality wheel. He said cheaper wheels would've been trash-worthy at that point.

Now, they're as round and true as any brand new CH.

Low pressure cast wheel manufacturing does not equal a tough as fawk wheel. Every used set that is on the market is bent to some degree whether the person knows it or not.

Nah, the style 135 is about 28-29 lbs a piece depending on front to back, or at least they were according to my bathroom scale and my father's set.

Noice. The weight reduction in unsprung weight does have a positive and noticeable impact on ride quality and performance. I love my 17 lbs ARC8s for that reason. It'll also be nice to see some other style wheels around here (especially on an already unique Estoril coupe). That's not that BBS CH and APEX ARC8s aren't great looking wheels.

The ZHP is basically stock while the Touring has had its fair share of tweaks - nothing wild, just nice little improvements.

MJ

love the Touring also! did you get the BMW roof rail-delete kit, or did you modify the stock stuff?

what mods does the Touring have? (i'm currently building a ZHP Touring - in my sig below.)

slater - I did use the BMW kit for the roof rail delete and I wrote up a DIY on E46Fanatics:

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1086354&highlight=roof+rail+delete

Some of the picture links are broken thanks to Flickr but I think you will get the idea.

Otherwise the Touring has Eibach Pro-kit springs/Bilstein sports, ZHP control arms, Z4 m-coupe RTAB's, BMW performance exhaust, intake and short shift, E46 M3 front strut brace, Turner/Conforti software, upgraded DISA, M-tech II front and rear bumpers w/fog delete, full shadowline trim and Schnitzer Type 2 wheels in 17x8.

I am also running an E36 M3 flywheel and clutch but the pedal effort is way too heavy. I had the extra parts laying around and thought I would experiment since the stock self adjusting pressure plate was acting up. The plan now is to go with a Valeo single mass conversion when I have some free time.

Your Touring is looking good - seems you are well on your way to full ZHP spec.

thanks! that looks great. the parts are expensive (roughly $500 CAD), so i was contemplating more of a DIY-approach with the stock bits, but the delete kit being able to utilize the sedan roof rail kit (which i already have) is pretty sweet!

thanks - it's coming, i have a lot of work still but it hopefully will happen fairly quickly.

i also have a valeo SMF kit going in, albeit for the 6MT going in from the ZHP.

how do you like the BMW Performance exhaust?

slater - The BMW performance exhaust is OK. I would describe it as just a touch louder than the factory ZHP exhaust. It has a really nice look with the adjustable tips filling up the opening in the valence perfectly.

If you really want exhaust feedback (louder) I would recommend a Stromung or UUC Corsa.

The intake really shines - you don't get the loud guttural noise like a lot of the open element kits, just a sweet note when you get into the rev's.

I was lucky enough to get my Performance exhaust and intake on a super clearance sale (more than 60% off) which made it an easy choice.

thanks MJ. i will be installing the BMW Performance exhaust since 'just a touch louder' is perfect for me. this is my perfect DD/track car and we'll also use it for longer family trips, so i don't want anything loud. plus i do love the look. :)

i definitely am more into induction noise, and have an aFe that i like the sound of, but not the fitment of. might try the injen intake - it looks just like the aFe but with better fitment.

Absolutely. I'll try to park next to it when I come back from lunch for a better side by side. I don't think EB-II is as vibrant, and the gunmetal wheels make that lack of vibrance look even worse.

If you stood any closer, you'll see the mismatched panels, missing interior trim, rust, sagging pillars etc. it is a salvage title car I paid $1000 for a few years ago. Definitely the worst condition e46 I've ever owned and it only had 130k when I bought it.

Lol!! Some of my friends say the same thing. I really want some CH wheels, but most of my friends tell me not to get them. That my wheels are fine. When I got the car back after the leather dye, it just looked so good with the door open and the CSL spokes and my brake rotors.

I really think the CSL wheels and CH are the best wheels for the e46 body. I also like Arc8s but those two are the best in my opinion. The CSL for a more OEM look and the BBS for the enthusiast look. I'm go crazy tying to decided. I've been calling every shop for CHs. Kinda hard to drop $1,500-$1,700 when you already have awesome looking wheels. But I already have about two years with my wheels and want to have a little bit more of an enthusiast look. Really hard choice tho.. what do you guys think?

Agreed. I prefer the CSL-type wheels over the CHes, but I have a feeling I may be an oddity around here (for more reasons than just my wheel preferences on an E46).

Thanks! They're "Sportline 8s." I know VB3s are the more popular option because of price, and the thinner (read longer looking) spokes; but I really didn't want gravity cast. I learned about these from the guy I bought my M3 seats from.

TBD lol. I'm not sure I even hit 40mph in the 11 mile drive home, and I had (x4) 135s in the back I was trying to keep in place.

I'm thinking it won't be an issue. It's a 9.5" so the 255 is a little stretched, but they don't look as flush as the 135 with a 15mm spacer (I don't remember the math offhand). IIRC I can get away with a 3mm in the back and 5mm up front if I'm worried about aesthetics.

If it's 9.5 and ET45 you'll be perfectly fine. I only rubbed with 265 on the same stats for wheels in my sedan so a moderate fender roll fixed that. The coupe supposedly has more room in the back.

Not for the curb. I seldom go places where parallel parking is required. It's more for shitty roads. NCDOT believes manholes should be placed in the tire path, and should be 3" recessed.

I really think the CSL wheels and CH are the best wheels for the e46 body. I also like Arc8s but those two are the best in my opinion. The CSL for a more OEM look and the BBS for the enthusiast look. But I already have about two years with my wheels and want to have a little bit more of an enthusiast look. Really hard choice tho.. what do you guys think?

What wheels a person likes on their car is purely subjective. In my opinion, the CSL, BBS CH, BBS LM, ARC-8, and Volk TE37's all look good on the E46 although some are much heavier such as the BBS CH wheels.

Compared to the ARC-8's I have in my garage, my BBS CH wheels are much heavier. You can feel them when you drive the car but damn, do they look incredible on the car once mounted!

If you're tracking or driving your car spiritedly all the time then I would stay away from the BBS CH wheels to be honest and go for the much lighter ARC-8/Volk TE37 wheels. If you're going purely for looks then I would say BBS LMs or BBS CH wheels is the way to go. If you want to stay more OEMish then go with the CSL wheels. Either way you can't lose :thumbsup

Yes. The pistons are garbage on the stock calipers - they do not stand up to track use whatsoever and crack under high heat, which is ironic considering these are 6-piston calipers (essentially a BBK) and not the typical single piston floating ones BMW usually used on their cars of that generation.

I would do some naughty things for TE-37's... too bad they're so friggin' expensive.
