I was being a bit rambunctious today with traction control off. Everything turned into bumpy ice from the rain so the surface was unpredictably slick and grippy from ice/asphalt mix. Over rotated on a back road and ended up facing the other way. [emoji23] And one throttle kicked the back out too hard and sent my rear spinning up too fast and ended up moving sideways too quickly. I eased off to slow sideways movement and just as I went to neutral I tapped the iced curb like Ken Block. Just threw up ice and snow and continued into throttle to straighten out so I didn't pendulum. LOL wish I caught that on GoPro. [emoji51] Accidental precision with no metal contact.

Actually get 25 mpg highway at 75 mph. My last one, a '98 740iL got 30 on the highway at those speeds and regularly went 600 miles on a tank on road trips.
I tend to hit the EPA city estimate on the commute, though. :(

Those are the wheels from the E90 320si, which is the roadgoing version of their race car. Very limited numbers; a quick search reveals 2600 cars were to be built. Sweet wheel - they are 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear.

They're actually Camaro 20's - same bolt pattern (5x120) as BMW. If we have to have a van, might as well make it nice.
In hindsight I thought they looked more like Camaro wheels but said "it's a Honda, surely it's 5x114.3 instead of 5x120."

They're still in my stock housings. One of the housings is completely smashed; the lens shattered off when the fog light fell out and banged against the road. The internals with the X5 innards, however, are fine, so they can still be transplanted if I wanted to. The hard part (modifying the heat sinks) is done, I'd just have to shave some of the inside of the housings to get them to fit the new ones.
+1 want to know. I'm retrofitting ES300/IS300 yellow fog projectors, and I'm curious about how you did it. I'm not looking forward to fabricating another set of brackets.
When we were retrofitting them, the heatsinks had to be cut and the inside of the fog housing has to be enlarged on the inside a bit for it to slide in.
They didn't sit quite horizontal, but it was close. Unfortunately I don't have the pics on my Flickr account; have to dig them up from wherever they are.

The housings are technically E46 housings, just with X5 LED internals installed. I did it because I'm a lighting whore... I love LED products. Halogen looks like meh to me and HIDs cause my dash lights to flicker whenever they get turned on (and are more complicated; ballasts). LEDs are the perfect solution. No ballasts, instant on/off, and have a nice high intensity output.

Yep, HID fogs are a bad idea. The corner light function will murder the ballasts and bulbs, and an over-illuminated foreground has a very negative impact on your ability to see at-distance in the dark. The X5 LEDs have a very wide beam pattern too, do they not?

I've never had an issue with my 35 watt HID fogs in the 10 years I've used them in the E46. While they are intense they fill in where the headlights aren't and I've been on many 12 hour night adventures without fatigue. If I'm in a pack, I'm always asked to lead to light up wildlife. Haha
Maybe I have the "perfect" alignment? No one has ever gave me the brights from being annoyed. My old original ballasts have been bulletproof and as they say, they don't make them how they used to. And I've never fried an LCM yet....LOL.

It is a shame that I lost both lumbar and heated seats ☹️
I do plan on owning this car for a long time though. So maybe in the future I could track down seats that have lumbar and heat or just dye a set of M3 seats that are heated and lumbar. I am happy for now but we will see

you just can't do this with a sedan, folding seats or not. :) my new engine hoist! got a great deal, basically half price - i bought it second-hand, but it is entirely 100% unused! this sucker is heavy - 165lbs!
29538
trip to ikea afterwards for some stuff for our addition - another 130lbs of furniture, etc.
29539
from the inside - you can see how tall the hoist is. go Touring!! :cheers
29540
really, for 300+lbs of weight - that's not much squat out back.

you're not that far away.
i am thinking about headers - i have a set of used bimmerbrake headers here that i might install before the ZHP engine goes in, but i would have to figure out tuning and i also would want to install some cats just downstream of the headers (i would feel wrong going catless).

I say go headers, OEM exhaust with a resonator delete so your neighbors can hear the song of our people [emoji1374] Lmao
That would be my route, I've considered headers for a really long time but not knowing much about 02 sensors/cats and where to place simulators I've second guessed it for a long time.
If theyre black/heated/power I would 100% consider it if shipping doesnt slaughter the walls of my wallet lol

terra could perhaps help with this, but AA has a tune for catless headers. i would maybe go with that and then still add cats just downstream of the headers for peace of mind.
i will be using the stock midsection with the BMW Performance muffler on the end - i want nice sound, but i don't care to be loud, and don't want to bother/disturb anyone.
If theyre black/heated/power I would 100% consider it if shipping doesnt slaughter the walls of my wallet lol
they are indeed black/heater/power, with lumbar and adjustable bolsters. the only ones to get.
you're only 7hrs from me, it's too close to bother with shipping. i could potentially meet you part-way if you're serious.

i think it's CQuartz?
Rovert
04-04-2017, 05:18 AM
Yup cQuartz for now. My detailer says it lasts two years minimum. Feeling the car after drying it doesn't seem like I need to do any reapplication yet. The surface is completely smooth to the touch after decontamination as if I clayed and polished a standard clearcoat! There is still no swirling and super minor spider webbing. I like having little to no maintenance on the exterior finish! I put this car through a ton of garbage this winter in Vancouver too. LOL
When I dry the car I use this spray called reload which freshens up the ceramic coat. It's a watery/milky liquid that smells so good. A few sprays on my drying towel and I just wipe the car the same as drying it. I do this once every two months.

CQuartz isn't the choice of my detailer anymore. I think he found something either better with longevity and/or easier to apply. I'll be understanding about it more as soon as the sun starts to shine even more! You can see in the background he was XPEL wrapping a 997.2 C4 GTS Cab. Such a beautiful looking vehicle!

I used Optimum Gloss Coat on my new wheels and it was stupid easy to apply. Planning to do the whole car after I've touched up the paint and let my detailer (Spenser) work his magic. Too busy splitting time between driving it and tearing it apart...such is life.

Estoril must be the bee's knees. [emoji15]
He didn't want to leave. I told him he needs money if he wanted it but he only has honey to barter with. [emoji51]

Thanks bud, always looking out for us! Although Nate pointed out (and I think I agree) they seem a little better suited for the sedan. I haven't seen them on non-M coupes enough to formulate an opinion.
i have a pic of them somewhere on a non-M coupe - they look killer. i want a set for the Touring.

yeah... stuart's Touring. gah. but those are 19s... too big for me. but yes - 18s would be perfect. i basically never see them come up for sale around here. i will be mounting my ARC-8s once the drivetrain and suspension swap happens.

Yea 19s a little much for me too. The only 18" sets I see FS always seem to have 10" rears. Sigh...

Not bad for for having washed 850 miles worth of bugs off in total darkness last night. And of course it was raining before I got back out to the car after work today.

I still can't believe that Peter let that car go (to your benefit). Such a gorgeous color. But as always...

That car was like a national treasure for Canada...I too can't believe that Peter let it go. On the good side, it went to an awesome owner and he will do the car full justice!

This is great! Yours looks really good with the sunset and water in the background. Is that near Anacortes? Looks like Northern WA to me, but I'm guessing this is up in Vancouver.
Now this shot needs to be repeated by ZHPizza and 704sw

Well crap...closest I can think of (off hand) for doing a recreation is I-77 over Lake Norman. Hardly the same, but I'm not saying no. Nate?

Haha it's South Surrey on HWY 99 going west just north of the Peace Arch border crossing.
It's amazing how the "HDTV" iPhone Plus can take decently stabilized pictures in the dark at speed.

This was about 750 into my 850mi trip. Did 29mpg which I was pretty happy with, particularly given the hour I spent in that really strangely shaped parking lot you NoVa boys call I-95.
