View Full Version : What color should I refinish my M135 BMW 330 ZHP wheels??

It was a sad day for the ZHP.
I did some serious curbing on my front passenger side wheel. Evidently I parked too close to the curb on my friends driveway (which happens to be belgium block) and when I tried to reverse to the left and turn around (which I always do) the wheel made contact with the belgium block making the worst scraping noise I've ever heard.
The damage is pretty bad. Multiple chunks and long scrapes along the outside of the rim.
I'm not as upset as I thought I would be. I was planning on getting them refinished soon anyway since all four wheels are in pretty sad shape. Now its time to pick a color.
Choices:
Gun metal
OEM Silver
Matte Gun metal
Matte Black
What do you guys think? Feel free to throw in some pics or ideas if you have any.

OEM silver. Why don't you just buy one refinished wheel? Pictures? A lot is repairable when it comes to wheels.

All four wheels are in pretty sad shape because the previous owner lived in the city. I figured I would just get them all done at once.
I couldn't take any pics since its dark out, I'll have some up tomorrow morning.

On the OEM wheel, I'd stick with OEM silver. My 2cents.

Seems like the general consensus so far is OEM silver. Thats what I'm leaning towards since I know for a fact it will look good, but I'm still interested in seeing a ZHP with gunmetal/anthracite 135m's. I think a TiAg sedan with gunmetal rims and a 20% tint might look amazing

OUCH...that IS bad! Two of mine have some rash also but not as bad as yours. I'm still debating on how to fix them or maybe buy a new set and sell mine. I really should have done something with them before I installed new tires.
I gotta agree, OEM silver. IMO a darker color on your TiAg wouldn't look as good but I'm no fan of darker wheels in general.

Next question......cost? I was thinking around 100 per wheel, but after some research, it looks like its going to cost more :(

Yeah...those are $200.00 a pop. You would do better refinishing the ones you have prolly...

Yup, that's why I can't decide what to do. Besides the fact that I don't know of anyone around here that specializes in wheel refurbs, you're talking some serious bucks to do all 4. If I could sell my old ones for $600 or so and pick up a new set for a bit over $1300 your only talking a $700 or so difference for a new set. If you figure it could cost $500 or so to refurb all 4 and......decisions......decisions.

You can get the above ones, with Falkens for around $1300.00
You will never get $600.00 for yours

Dane if I had to go mean I'd get these. No plans to replace my wheels ATM though.

I'd want to stay with the Style 135 though, even though they are heavy and pain in the butt to clean. If I was going to get some different wheels though I would probably go with the CSL reps. You're probably right on not getting $600 for mine but I've seen some that were in rougher shape than mine sell for $500 a set.

I'm planning on staying with the 135's unless, of course, the cost of refinishing is more than 600. Then I'll look into a set of Avant Garde 310's.

My wheels had 85% of the damage that yours do ( from the PO)
I had all 4 restored to factory flawless for $300.00 cash. Keep shopping IMO.

That's not bad at all. Easily repairable. Buy some wurth wheel paint, some filler primer, and if you're a perfectionist some bondo. Tape the wheel off and blend it; easy couple hour diy. If you're interested I'll describe the process in more detail.

Someone did that on e46fanatics but I don't remember who. It looks good, but the darker your wheels are the cheaper the car looks (IMO). It's not something one could pinpoint, but is is subconsciously a cheap look.

Thats what I'm looking for, I would be so happy if I can find a place to do it for $300. The search continues....

I had someone on e46F photoshop a pic of my car with gunmetal on the rims. I didn't like it as the car sits, but with smoked corners/tails/sides and tinted windows, I think I could pull it off. I'll post up the photoshopped pic with smoked lights and tint once he sends it to tomorrow

Clears not smoked. Smoked lighting does not belong on zhps. Not classy.

That looks darker than gunmetal to me. I am going to go gun metal if I get mine refinished, but I also have a blue car so it will look different.

Your right, it is a little dark. It's almost like graphite.
