View Full Version : Who all here is debadged?

I notice my car catches a lot of eyes (because it does), but I was thinking about debadging it to keep the people who are ignorant people guessing at what my car is.
Although I like the 330i badge, i feel like people would just think its a base 330i that i put rims on. I'd rather guessing if it was an m3. I think the 330i on the back is classy, but debadging it looks pretty clean. I've had it on my last e39 so I'm tempted to do it to this soon. I always have to be doing something to my car to keep me busy:rockon
Thoughts?

MAN, I have always been back and forth on the debadging... sometimes I think it would look super clean, other times I think I would regret it (and then never look right if I decided to badge it up again) But Dane, your's looks really nice on the Imola... Hmm...

The black badge is just sooo schmexy.
I'm on the fence about the debadge as well, honestly. My E30 was debadged and I never really gave it any thought (debadged when repainted, and never put it back on). I always wanted to put a 330is badge on it though.
As far as the E46 goes, I bought it with the black 330i badge and I really like it. To debadge or not to debadge... hmm.
I'm going with the opposite of whatever most people do, so I'll probably end up keeping the black badge.

I've been debadged since the week I bought the car and never looked back. Actually, I think the numbers are here at work somewhere... hmmmm

I like the clean lines of a debadged trunk. I sat on the fence for a year before i did it. It took my car next to lance's to make me finally do it. I like the clean lines. I also have seen this old body style a4 around town with nothing on the trunk, and it looks clean as hell.... here's badged vs debadged. Mine still has the badge here, and lance's doesnt.

Funny thing happened today, was at Sonic drive in and parked next to a pre-facelift 330i and i noticed the driver(female, i think..thru tint) and then the male passenger looking at my wheels since the menu board was in the way of the rest of my car. Then when they backed up, they backed up too far to look at my badge. Just another reason to debadge! Keep them pondering if it's an M:biggrin

sorry to divert attention from badges, but when I read "CSL". I thought I might ask you folks..
..Anybody thought about getting the E46 M3 CSL seats?? :) I would LOVE those for three reasons.
1) I never drive my car
2) Serious weight reduction.
3) Would match the Alcantara ZHP interior nicely.

Yeah, a friend put that bug in my brain.. Same friend that pointed out my car to me and inadvertently put my checking account into the red.

I think the CSLs are neat. Always loved the E36 M3 LTW.. Sometimes wish BMW had a bit more sack (or rather, dealers learned how to advertise / sell these barebone gems ;)

I've got a buddy here that has a number of OEM CSL mods on his car (front & rear bumpers, diffuser, trunk, even a real CSL carbon fiber roof!). He said that the seats are one of the hardest pieces to get. The ///M cloth is attainable though.

I've had mine debadged for about 3 months now. It's a 2002 325ci with oem m3 wheels and m3 front bumper. Ever since the debadged I've also been getting alot of looks. Probably mistaken for an m3. All together it makes my trunk look cleaner and it accents my carbon fiber roundels. Either way is cool though

To me you debadge if:
1. you like the look or
2. you have a top of the model line car that you want to be a sleeper (M3 sedan is the perfect debadged sleeper IMO, or a M5. Also a fan of the wingless STI) or
3. you have a bottom of the model line car that you want people to think is a top of the model line car
You add badges that represent the top of the model line car if you have performed modifications that are 'significant' enough to warrant that. What determines 'significant' obviously varies by person. For some it would be having components of an ///m suspension, or wheel or whatever. Personally I would only add an STI or M or AMG badge for a powertrain swap.
Regardless, I'm going to debadge because I like the look. I was never a fan, but the last car I had was debadged from the PO and it really ended up growing on me. Just a clean look.

Does anyone have a shadowline 330i badge on Imola with clears ? Can you post a pic of rear ? Trying to figure out if I'm going debadged or shadowline.
Yes, I have it. I just went out and took pics.
Sorry for them being so dark; it is getting dark at the moment so I tried to adjust the settings on my camera so it's not too blurry but still has enough light.
These photos are untouched in any editing software so bear with me...

Im debadged. I was on the fence about it for a year or so and got a wild hair one day and took it off. Been happy with it since. I kept the badges as well as wrote down measurements in case I decided to put it back later.
I love how that touring looks as well...mmm

You will need some adhesive or bug/tar remover to get the glue off so a wax afterward is a great idea as it will remove the wax on that portion of the boot. Good plan sir.

Debadging definitely gives the car a much cleaner look. However, whenever I see a debaged bmw I ALWAYS assume it's the lowest model availabe, i.e 525i or 323i cough* cough* :shifty
I think it really depends on the car, E46's and E39's look clean with no badges, but on every other car I would leave it badged.
My 323i is debadged btw..

Nice! I would debadge an m3 if I had one, though it would probably take some time to do it. Same with the 1er. I'll keep all the chrome accents (grilles, exhaust tips, badge) for a while then decide.

This is the most I got:
On my 325xi:
the italicized "i" is 2.5 cm to the left of the trunk edge. This space is consistent from top to bottom of the "i"
The "325xi" is 19.5 cm wide, with characters evenly spaced except slightly greater spacing between the "5" and the "x".
For height position, the "i" bottom is 5 cm above the gap between trunk lip and the trunk lights. Characters are level.

So here's what I think.
If its stock, then leave the badge stock.
If its modded, then use black badges. it says "hey, I got a 330i, but, I might have done something to it, wink wink".
If you're embarrased that you drive a 330i, then debadge it.
Also, I think debadging makes the rear of our cars look naked, like its missing something. It just hasn't set well with me since I did it. But I've added some goodies to the car so I didn't want to just put the stock chrome badge back on. I ended up going with the black 330i badge and I think it looks fantastic, and it makes the right statement: "I've got a 330i, I accept that it's a 330i, I'm proud that its a 330i, but this is no normal 330i." And also, it fits the trend of the black shadowline trim and black bmw performance grills.
Wish I had a good pic to upload, haven't taken one yet.

Hope they don't mind me sharing. I'm still on the fence but mostly leaning towards stock badges.

Very happy being debadged. Easier to clean around, less pointy stuff to catch a drying towel on, and evens out the rear end.

Debadged by far. That's pretty much an across the board modification for me regardless of the make/model of vehicle.
Specifically: I hate chrome on the ZHP.

I normally debadge.
Not sure why I haven't yet.
I like blacked out 330i on Alpine White and Imola, but not so much on the blacks.
Dah I can't decide.

I will debadge and rebadge when I do get an OE badge with 330is.

I'm back to just a blacked out 330 badge.

Meaning to get hold of Bimmian to inquire if they do have the "s" on their inventory.

My 2006 e90 came with 330 badge (I'm the 3rd owner). Sometimes I wonder what happened to the "i" ... :dunno

I'd like to get the appropriate "is" for mine.

My $.02 is leave stock or go full debadge. Our cars were not labeled as 's' cars nor should they be - they are better than than the e9x+ generation cars.
I've never been a huge fan of de-badging. I can see it as a "clean look" mod, but around here, just about every de-badged car is pretending to be something it's not (ex e90 328i with quad exhausts and m-sport body kit). It's very rare for me to spot a top of the series car that has been de-badged.

Well I finally was able to give them a call. They do not carry the "is" badge. However, he did mention that there was somebody that inquired about the same a day before. He stated that he wanted the badge for his 330i ZHP. Hmmmm.
