Hi All,
I am prepping this car for sale. Was wondering if anyone would be interested prior to posting on BAT or C&B.
Both have accepted the car, with a reserve. Some highlights:
-Factory 6-speed manual
-52K miles
-1/89 in this configuration (probably much less with the cold weather package)
-Heated seats
-Folding rear seats
-No accidents
-Never kid owned (I am the 3rd owner)
-Completely stock
-No saggy headliner
-New Michelin Pilot 4 A/S
-3 recalls recently done (Driver & Passenger Airbags, and rear tail light ground)
-Original window sticker
-Clean title in hand
-2 key fobs and 1 wallet key
-New cabin filter
-New air filter
-Recent 5w-40 LiquiMoly oil change
-New clutch/brake fluid
-New diff fluid
-New OE fuel filter
-Alignment
-New OE shift knob
-New OE alcantara shift boot
Please PM if interested, if it doesn't sell within the next few weeks I will go the auction route.
I think this one is the closest in spec and mileage.

PMs replied.
BMW gave it a clean bill of health, just recommended replacing the rear tires.
I was going to get all four new tires anyway.

BMW stated that it only needs rear tires - replacing all 4 this Sunday.
My mechanic (I use for all of my BMWs) stated everything looks good aside from the rear tires are a little low. He is going to do the clutch/brake fluid, as well as the diff fluid.

Yeah, so they gave me a really solid reserve, just feel like this is a terrible time around the holidays and the market not doing great. Debating on dry icing the undercarriage, $2-2.5k.

I know theres been some stuff you have replaced/updated parts wise. Pure curiosity on my end: at what point does doing that stuff (like dry icing the underside) still become cost effective in terms of netting you more money on the sale?
And I get the timing thing with it being the end of the year/holidays, but you never know. Maybe sit on it/keep it under wraps until tax return and/or spring time?

The dry ice will make it look factory, so for the collector who will most likely buy it, it probably makes sense for a BAT auction.
For some reason the ones that are dry iced underneath perform a lot better. There are a few from one of the sellers in Florida that performs it a lot (even though they may not admit it).
I was also going to have the front bumper repsrayed as the very bottom near the fogs (the lowest points) have some minor marks.
But you are right, is it worth the extra few grand, will it perform that much better?
Yeah, honestly no crazy rush. The market should rebound in a year or so. It’s a joy to drive, I’m just trying to avoid putting on too many miles. It’s an extra car right now. I took it to one car show.

Just had the fuel filter done (OE filter).
Third shop to look at it, another reputable local shop.
They said the car looked great, and that it did not need anything.
They said the filter didn't even look that bad, but it was the original.

Just had the car aligned at another reputable shop (Hunter machine).

Just dropped the ZHP off to have the front bumper sprayed.
Had some marks on the lowest parts, that always get scrapped up.
BAT agreed to my reserve (they gave me a great number), so if it doesn't sell here with in the next two weeks I will probably go that route.
I agree, I don't think the market is as strong as it was with the rising interest rates, layoffs, and the equity market in the hole, but I think I could still possibly do well. If anyone wants to make an offer prior to going live there, let me know.
Only thing I am debating is the dry ice undercarriage as everyone is a fanatic about how clean it is down there, even though 99% of the time you never see it. Seeing if it makes sense to spend the $2K. It is not bad, but they would make it look new.

thats pretty insane to me that BaT has to "approve" your reserve. I think, as long as you pay whatever fees they require to list the car (assuming thats how it works) you should be able to have whatever reserve you want.

I haven’t listed a car with them in a couple of years, but I think it’s only $99 to list, so if it doesn’t sell they do not recoup the 5% from the buyer. They’ve been extremely Tight with even accepting reserves on many cars lately. They agreed to a little under what I originally wanted, so I’m fine with it.

thats just extremely odd to me that they can dictate your (generally speaking) reserve price. obviously, as long as its not overly outrageous/unheard of. bizarre.
post pics if you do the undercarriage cleaning, would love to see results. G/L

Just spoke with the owner of here for a bit...
https://togdetailstudio.com/
He told me straight up, that if you do it on the undercarriage and do not recoat, then it will rust bad.
He does not offer the undercoating, but there is another place I was looking at that does. At the end of the day I do not think it's worth it.
You get some nice pictures and it looks clean, but if the next owner is going to daily it, then it will start to rust.
I was talking to him about paint correction and ceramic coating, but it gets pricey $2,500-$3,000.

My two cents...do not do the dry ice on the undercarriage...leave it original.

Yeah leaning towards that.
You know how the crowd is on BAT, 95% of the commentators don’t actually bid, they try to sabotage the auction.

I tried steam cleaning two years ago. It was $150.

I paid more than $13K.
I also put a bunch of money into it.
Thanks for the backhanded compliment though, lol.

Sweet! When's it heading to BAT? Always wanted a black one, love the sinister look, and has new tires! You never know.

Let’s see how yours does first ;) … $12k is strong with 6 days left.
I may actually wait until spring. They gave me the reserve I wanted, just think it will fetch higher in spring.
Hope you get your $20k. Good luck.
