Hi All!

I had been searching for a titanium silver, with cube/black interior, that was also an automatic. Finally came across one not too far from me. It was taken care of by a previous owner that was a member on here until about 120k miles, which was taken care of in detail. It is now at around 176k miles, and touch and go mechanical upkeep vs. fully active service schedules from the latest owners.

it's going to be quite a project to restore!

Interior items I'm looking for:
- New steering wheel with the M cover...thinking of Colby wheel + buying the M cover part
- Leather shift knob
- E- Brake handle (leather worn)
- Armrest needed, totally missing!
- Rear Ashtray
- Rear Speaker deck (sun damage, it's purple)
- Center Console
- Black Storage box trim around gear selector.
- Volume button base part to correct looseness
-BMW OEM Floormats
- A/B/C Pillars ( like new please, no fabric fail)
- Headliner - New, but will probably get repaired it upholstery shop

Exterior items I'm looking for:
- Windshield cowel
- Gloss Shadowline Trim (first round will be the large pieces on each side)
- Rear inner tail lights, older faded.
- Xenons are flickering, will diagnose.
- Damaged passenger fender... best way to replace?
-Cover for front bumper
- Repaint the car as clear coat is having an issue with sun
- parking lights, they are a bit loose/older.

Going to the mechanic this week for at least:
- Oil pan gasket
-transmission selector seal leak
- New rear brakes
- play in steering wheel (thinking it's the guibo, I hope)
- Shocks for hood
+Who knows what else... I may regret such an impulse buy :-)

If you're going to upholstery for the headliner, might as well just make them wrap the pillars.
Rear fender, might be possible to PDR. But if you're going to paint for the clear coat, then make them fix it at the same time lol
same with the tow hook cover, have them order and paint it at the same time

Congrats, car looks very clean. It's a good idea to replace these 2 parts with the oil pan gasket repair:

Engine mounts = P/N 22116779970
Steering coupler = P/N 32301094703

The shop will lower the subframe to replace the OPG. The above parts can be installed without extra labor cost.

Welcome! Is the center armrest missing because it looks like it, or because it was purposely deleted?

Thanks for this! It's going to the shop in the morning, will make sure to add that to the list.

I think someone might have tried to repair the leather, got mad, and ripped it out. The mounting piece is fine, but the O rings on the end of the armrest are still there, but looks like they tore off the leather part of it. Will remove those old O ring pieces and install a new armrest lid! Definitely where I would rest my elbow naturally.. I figured out the hard way driving lol.

Does anyone here know which headliner part # is the factory in a ZHP sedan anthracite interior? The dealer is pulling the part #s and getting 51447028575 costing $1100 and then 51442699106 costing around $800. They have the exact same description, labeled Schwartz, he was confused as to why as well. Is this the same thing? (I would plan to buy this direct to save money, but trying to find the right part.)

Latest Update! Before and After of interior:

New M steering wheel, shifter knob, leather armrest has returned! (idk where it went), new BMW floor mats, Rennen Phone Holder, Fixed radio volume knob (even though the text doesn't light up in orange anymore lol....clock wasn't working anyway due to the cluster clock selector being broken - so I actually like it :)

3911439115

New Cowl, new headlight rubber covers (dry rotted and gross before) and repaired gloss shadow line trim!

39116

39117

39118

Replaced engine air filter & cabin air filter, repaired a few minor interior things not featured.

Up Next:

AC system checkup and re-charge
Brake fluid Flush and new rear brakes
Headlight gasket... fogged up after a car wash

+

A final digital report inspection from a local place here in LA... they take images of everything and compile a digital report so I know condition of all major components etc. the previous shop did at the urgent repairs well (valve cover, oil pan gasket etc.) but they did not go out of their way to ensure everything was maintained. -- I am expecting full suspension, belts, tensioners, CCV/DISA etc. condition results.

Once all of the above is complete (aka my excessive mechanical paranoia... then paint work will commence, which is pretty $$$) If anyone knows anyone good, let me know! Respray of Roof, bumpers, fenders, and one fender repair + rear damage where someone keyed the paint.

Will keep it coming as work is done!

Update...

Got a really cool detailed picture inspection of all potential problems at a BMW shop in Pasadena.

Next Set of issue repaired:

Rear Brake rotors and pads = rotors warped... went ahead and replaced.
Front Brake Hoses - Cracked
Expansion Tank - indicator broken decried to replace along with upper radiator hose as they unhook from there.
Both front struts, mounts, sling pads, bump stops, dust bellows
Front Sway bar end links
alignment of course from the above
rear trail arm bushings
tranmission mounts

so we are at 5 + 4+ 5 = 14k, and paint work will happen one day, but first mechanics :)

I have a body shop, but he's in HB. Dunno if you want to drive all the way down.

I actually went down to him! He's pretty good? He told me that it would be very very expensive and to go to Maaco lol. He didn't give me a quote, just a verbal guesstimate. I had already gotten a quote $1k more than him ($4.5k), idk if he thought I wasn't good for the funds or what, but if he is good I could give it another try!

Try Signature Autobody in Orange (on Batavia) for a quote.

he's my exclusive body shop now. I like him. He has this OCD about doing shit right. But yeah, he tends to say that shit if he thinks you can't afford it lol Also, if you try to do custom shit, he will say he can't do it. But then you keep pushing it and he does it lol

If you do try again, just tell him that I sent you his way. My name is Hieu (pronounced Hugh).

Got it! I live in Bev. Hills I may just go ahead with the guy at King's Auto Body, he was $1k more... but I really don't want to drive all the way back down there unless it's to drop the car off. Thanks for the review on him, if something pops up in the future will be sure to keep him in mind!

Update here! The shop's fancy $270 inspection missed that the front brake rotors had rust and that was causing the braking issue, so I replaced the rear brakes for no reason they said, $650 bucks wasted. I am now taking it to my original shop I like, this shop was just known for preventative inspections that were in-depth.

My old shop will now be doing:

Front brake rotors and pads
Bilstein B6 rear shocks that go with the new front end suspension.
Potential Oil filter housing gasket leaking (already did VCG and oil pan, what other gasket could it be lol)

Total excluding Oil filter is $1786.

So I'm now at 5.5K for price of car + 4.4k R1 of repairs + 5.6k R2 of repairs + $1.8k for R3 of repairs + $1.5k interior replacements (steering wheels, leather parts etc.) = $18.8K within the three months since I bought.

It still needs.... paint work, rims need to be restored as some curb rash/paint peel

$4.6k paint
$1k estimated for rim restore
$1k for new pillars and headliner.

so we are looking at this 176k mile ZHP costing me right about $25K, I sold my 2019 330i I owed $28k LOL. I will never sell this car. I'm way too invested at this point.

myles330

If someone could say, the ZHP is better than that 2019 and will last forever now, that would be nice right about now :shifty

06-11-2022, 09:33 AM
1k for rim repair? isn't it like $150/wheel?

Man, these numbers show how much I have been saving because I try to DIY everything and also have access to parts discounts lol

of course, it's better than the 2019 lol

myles330
06-11-2022, 12:01 PM
Yeah, it's pricey... but I also got it done here in SoCal, Nashville would have been cheaper if I would have gotten it there by now. + I used two of the top BMW private shops in LA area. (Avus, recommend! PhD... would not fool with them again)

The paint work and the rims are going to take a back seat unless I see any progression in paint issue, maybe next year.

Saving to buy a new house. Once that's done, will go into aesthetics more. (exception on aesthetics I will do the headliner/pillars I can't stand the sagging in rear view mirror.)

Yeah, I guess those prices would make sense. My friend got quotes to replace the HPFP on M240i and it was ~$400, just labor. Takes like at most 2 hours your first time DIY and you have all the tools. We just DIYed it today inside a parking garage lol I told him it would be easy as shit.

Nice. I understand that. I am doing the same thing. Plus, I don't really want to street park when all my next round of mods might make the car more attractive to would be thieves. Need a garage lol

Update, Oil filter housing didn't have a leak woot, no oil leaks :)

However... my fuel gauge started acting wonky.... car back in the shop for a new fuel level sender & Fuel Pump so I don't run out of gas.

Attempted to test the cluster, but the right push button is broken... assuming I need to have a dealer order a cluster and code it to the car so it's 100% working and I get the red needles back (they faded to this ugly orange)

Does anyone have any idea what this noise is? It sounds right underneath dashboard, like a humming noise. It get's louder and louder as time goes on.

Finally got my gas needle fluctuation fixed! New fuel pump on passenger side and fuel sender on driver back seat area.

The shop couldn't figure out what the above noise is, it's really light now/comes and goes.

Wish me luck on this cross-country roadtrip from CA! Fingers crossed with new front/rear brakes, fluid, great tires, all the oil engine gaskets new, suspension (front and back), and even brake lines, expansion tank, hoses, engine/transmission mounts, trailing arm bushings, and the list goes on in the last 600 miles that we will be in great shape to make it out there. :roundel
