I sold my 2003 Imola Red ZHP in August of 2018 and got my second ZHP almost two years later, a 2004 Mystic Blue/Alcantara ZHP on July 4, 2020. To be completely honest, I did not expect to be back in the ZHP game for a long time if ever. Vas made a comment in another thread (can't remember which right now) to the effect that people who sell their ZHPs tend to pick up another again. I found this comment to be true as I found myself back in my second ZHP although this one is far from perfect as compared to others found on this forum.

For some reason I tend to pick up rescue cases with "lots of character" to sort out . . .

It has been a good run - thanks to all who have been supportive of my ZHP journey.

I found this Mystic Blue ZHP in fredo's CL findings (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?18267-Fredo-s-CL-findings&p=596151#post596151) thread where Notaniroc had posted a car he found in Facebook marketplace. I was looking for a project car so I started looking into this car and considered buying it. This poor ZHP was in real need of being rescued . . .

I contacted Brett (brettbimmer) and asked him if he could give this car a good look over since he was in the area and he obliged. I stressed to Brett that I was looking for a project car (one to work on and to have all of it's maintenance caught up) and if it met his approval I would drive down to purchase this car. Brett gave the car a good look over and sent me pictures and did not see anything to be too concerned about so I agreed to purchase this car and made the drive down to Maryland buy it and drive it back home with Botond's assistance. It goes to say that Botond has had the opportunity to drive all of my cars over the time I have known him and it is always nice to have good friends like him and Brett to help out whenever you need it.

For those not familiar with what I have done with my previous ZHP here is the link to that project thread . . .

Here are a few pics of the car on the day of rescue...

I had to apply some painter's tape to the gas cap cover door because the spring mechanism was crapped up from tree debris (I did not know this at that time) that both the locking mechanism and door would not remain closed. Once this area was thoroughly cleaned out and some WD40 applied to the spring mechanism, the issue went away permanently.

The interior is worn which is typical of high mileage cars with alcantara interior... the alcantara interior was swapped out for Shawn Robertson's alcantara interior pulled from his M3 sedan. :cool The alcantara front sedan seats from Shawn's interior were retrofitted with lumbar support w/ upper side bolster adjustment (both driver's and passenger's seats) so I got an upgrade to a very rare and unique interior.

In the picture above you can see those gaudy "BMW Performance" decal affixed to the OE door sills. Those ugly door sills were removed as soon as I got the car home for the ///M door sills which were then eventually replaced with the "BMW Individual" door sills which my ZHP currently has.

Those suede wrapped A-pillars, another poorly executed mod, was immediately replaced as soon as I got the car back home with OEM A-pillars and filler strip. How can anyone say these suede wrapped A-pillars look good??? In my opinion they make the car look cheap and ruin the clean look of the OEM interior. I am glad to see this changed back using fresh factory parts. Those suede wrapped A-pillars were poorly executed and went where they belong... in the trash.

As you see the first thing to replace for the drive home was the steering wheel and LCM...the radio is out as you can see in the pic below. Botond was trying to install his DICE adapter to the radio AUX port but his device was not working so we ended up reinstalling the radio without his DICE adapter. Never been a fan of this DICE adapter anyway . . .

The previous owner was not expecting to see me already working on the car before driving it home... some things needed to be changed out immediately for the drive home. At the time I had no idea what I was in for as he bragged to me that he knew ZHPs and had 6 of them previously . . .

I found out just how much this guy really did not know or care about these cars after I got my newly acquired ZHP home and began my own inspection of it . . . . I just took him at his word but after I purchased this car I very quickly found out the truth about him. Stuart has known about this unethical hack but was unaware I was buying this ZHP from this guy otherwise he would have warned me.

I wanted to have another ZHP for a project car but Jesus . . . I was not looking for a full restoration/overhaul of this car with a shitload of issues identified later to fully sort out . . . all the better I guess because this poor ZHP will have been taken from it's poor neglected/abused state to one that has been sorted out and restored back to where it belongs... The previous owner did what he had to do to get rid of this poor and neglected ZHP, he is in this to make money from people and with this car he would have lost a lot more money which is why his cooling system refresh was performed using cheap and poor quality Chinese-made parts sourced from his local NAPA store (see pg 88 posts #871 thru 881). Fortunately for this poor ZHP, it will live again under my ownership and care and not be left someplace to rot in some junk yard which is where this poor car would have ended up at :)

The rear diffuser was broken and at the time and I did not know to what extent but this was repaired once I got home... getting the car home was my immediate priority for that weekend...

As I started working on this car, keeping in mind I got this car as a ???project car??? to keep me busy??? I found a shitload of issues reflective of people who either did not know how to properly care for this car or worse . . . did not care . . . SMFH.

Most people would run away from this car but not me???. It explains why the previous owner only had this car for a month (or so he claimed when I talked to him). I can easily see from the condition of this car that he did the absolute minimum so he could flip it and be rid of it for good. I find it ironic that he even told me that he installed brand new coilovers on this car before I purchased it but when asked what brand he conveniently forgot... that in itself should have been a serious RED FLAG. After I got this car home I discovered the previous owner installed cheap $300 Maxspeedingrods coilovers. No wonder he chose not to tell me the truth. Anyway those piece of shit coilovers were replaced with proper Bilstein PSS-10 coilovers with Ground Control Camber Kit (see pg 98 post#974). The proper way to correct this issue.

Not many people get to have two 2004 3-series BMWs let alone an M3 and ZHP sitting in their garage. With this ZHP being Mystic Blue/Alcantara, the color combo I really wanted in a ZHP, I will continue to work on various parts of this car and restore it using OEM BMW parts or better quality parts??? some of you on this forum have seen and/or ridden in my M3 so you know the level of care and maintenance I put into my cars . . .

Out of all the cars I have ever purchased, this poor ZHP is easily the car that has been in the worse material condition with cheap substandard parts installed upon purchase. All this is going to change under my ownership . . . maintenance first before addressing all her cosmetic issues.

The list below outline what I have found during my initial inspection of this car after getting it back home to begin my new journey:

Identified Issues:

- MAINTENANCE:
- Steering wheel coupler needs refresh
- FCAB/RTAB replacement

- Vapor seals on all four doors need replacement
- Rear passenger lower control arm reported slightly bent by previous owner (will be replacing with Turner lower adjustable control arms)

- Aftermarket front driver fender used (will replace with OEM front driver fender when I repaint car)

- Roof panel has one small dent and clear coat pealed off (thanks to the previous owner - perhaps a carbon fiber roof install might happen here...)
- Rear Bumper needs repainting (numerous defects noted)

This is just a start of issues that I have to sort out with this car. I have not addressed the suspension/FCAB/Control arms, RTABs and diff bushings so there is still a lot of work to be done on this car and they all will get addressed as time progresses...

I have taken an interesting yet expensive journey with this Mystic Blue ZHP. One that I know will be worth all the effort to get this car restored back to my expectation and running perfectly again. I'm sure there will be lots of headaches and swearing along the way (yes based on what I have said so far, I have already started using a few choice words for a lot of the shit I have discovered wrong and corrected with this car) but there will also be a lot of triumphs and good surprises/upgrades in store for this ZHP. Stay tuned because where I can mod, those of you who know me, will know I will mod this car to OEM+ standards. In fact, since July 4, 2020 when I purchased this car I have already started making lots of progress on this ZHP. You can check out all the work that has gone into her below: :cool

Miles driven during my ownership: 28,803

This is just a start of my new ZHP project thread???

When I removed my windshield cowling to replace it with a brand new one I sourced from FCP euro, this is what I found. For those of you who park your cars under trees be well aware this is what can and will happen to your car if you leave it under trees and not do proper maintenance to it...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743679393_f7310c197a_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743722453_6733c332df_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743722663_98279d6238_b.jpg

There is absolutely no reason for this other than laziness and/or lack of care. The impression I have towards all the previous owners of this poor ZHP is low right now. I have never seen a car in such a lack of care as I have seen this poor ZHP but this is changing... as you can see by the cleaning I'm doing here...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744458621_1e5bc8af09_b.jpg
Eventually, I got the underside for the windshield cowl completely cleaned off, the entire area detailed, compounded and sealed before reinstalling the replacement windshield cowl in it's place.

When I saw this I knew all the drains would be clogged with this crap. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. To avoid this mess, just check on your car frequently if you have no choice but to park your car under trees or just avoid parking them there to begin with...SMFH

When I got this ZHP, the fog lights were secured with the wrong fasteners. The previous owner used different types of Phillips screws to secure the fog lights and lost the fog light surrounds. No surprises there...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744526392_f0baaee68c_b.jpg

To get the proper fasteners DOES NOT BREAK THE BANK. You should do the right thing and get the proper parts for this car... when I got home and saw this, I sourced the right part with brand new fasteners and installed my spare set of Morimoto LED fog lights as well as brand new fog surrounds to this car.

Another issue I immediately recognized was the wiring loom for Angel Eyes that some previous owner half assed installed... this was taken off immediately and thrown away.

As soon as I got my ZHP home I ordered new A-pillars from FCP euro and installed them as soon as they arrived. It was good to get rid of those cheesy looking suede wrapped abortions that were there when I purchased this car.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744448656_4a860daeae_b.jpg

I like the OEM look much better in the ZHP regarding pillars and headliners...it just looks cleaner. How the inside should look.

The broken passenger mid-range speaker grill as it looked when I purchased my ZHP
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745122743_d178b627f2_h.jpg
I ordered this part, yes I really did.... and the new part alone cost $48 from RealOEM.
Those wipers below were aweful as well. I ordered new sets that were more OEM to replace those ugly and worn out wipers.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745122908_f7c21daa6f_h.jpg
This engine bay had loose wiring and was very dirty when I picked this car up. The power steering reservoir was filthy with power steering fluid residue and dirt all over. Here is another view of the engine bay showing just how dirty it was when I got the car...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745854681_5a9c54fdc9_h.jpg
The Driver's side headlight assembly came with three upper tabs broken so the lens would not be held water tight. They were carelessly broken by the previous owner probably due to carelessness. Anyway before winter I am left with trying to source good replacement Driver's side headlight assembly so that I won't have to worry about moisture intrusion while driving the car to and from work. I'm pointing to the two of three upper tabs that are broke. The tab to the far right is also broken.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745269273_ab4041f622_b.jpg
I was not happy about this at all...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746003336_a456f6b7b7_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746003356_5aa2874ebc_b.jpg

Another issue I discovered while working on the driver's side headlight assembly were the front fender clips that rivet on to the front edge of the front fenders. I noticed the driver's side being completely broken and barely holding the bumper aligned whereas the passenger side clip was solid as shown in the picture below.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745285283_48c7a6f952_b.jpg
Another thing I noticed is that the passenger side is completely riveted in place whereas the driver's side was not. hmmmmmmm! Another half-ass attempt done to this poor ZHP!!! I fixed this . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746020886_b0438c60ef_b.jpg
This part did not cost too much and I can't believe the previous owners would just try gluing this part back together thinking it would hold. This is that broken fender clip from the driver's side . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746139917_c89f466017_b.jpg
Here is the new part I'm about to rivet back in place like you're supposed to. Not using a Phillips screw as the previous owner did...SMFH
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746038496_324ac0fa94_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745302618_76df35a7cd_b.jpg
All it takes is to get a rivet gun and a few rivets. Getting this costs under $30 so it is not too expensive. It is better to use the right parts and the right tools to do the work.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50746154182_96dca4956f_b.jpg

In the beginning, I was frustrated how anyone could allow a car like this to degrade to this level because I have found so many short cuts on repairs/maintenance done to this poor BMW. As of 2023, three years later, the cooling system (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure/page88) has been completely overhauled using Genuine OEM BMW or better parts (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure/page85) and all issues previously identified regarding my cooling system have been fully corrected. A Stewart Water pump was installed as well as the ECS Tuning aluminum water pump pulley and ECS Tuning aluminum water pump thread cap as they were better than OEM (with the water pump thread cap not available from BMW). The Fuel injectors (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=616100#post616100) were also crudded up bad and were in bad shape so they were all cleaned and reconditioned, the engine has been cleaned as well as the intake manifold, idle control valve, the throttle body and DISA with new gaskets installed. The Secondary Air System was then overhauled as it started presenting issues once the intake was throughly cleaned. New NGK spark plugs and DINAN ignition coils were installed along with a new Valve Cover Gasket (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=617612#post617612), all vacuum lines were replaced and vacuum plugs checked, sensors (oil pressure, oil temp, engine coolant temp as well as cooling system sensors replaced), both upper and lower intake hoses replaced, fuel line to fuel rail have been replaced with Genuine OEM BMW part, new fuel filter, VANOS oil supply line/banjo bolts, and the brake system has been flushed at least three times to rid of all the bad brake fluid initially found. Brake system have been partially upgraded to the Wilwood BBKs which will most likely be replaced with Brembo BBK setup come Spring 2024. My AutoSolutions SSK has been installed finally and my UUC Corsa TSE3 exhaust (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=617721#post617721) is scheduled for install in Feb 2024. All speakers have been replaced with BAVSOUND speakers and a new stereo head unit upgrade to the top tier AVIN 4 head unit (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=615238#post615238) with AVIN Internal TPMS sensors have been installed. The gauge cluster has also been replaced with an OEM M3 gauge cluster and is fully functional to include oil warm up and shift lights and all four door open indications. The new M3 gauge cluster was also reprogrammed to be more accurate with the speedometer needle and OBD II coolant temps and also had the red line LED adjusted to 7k RPM. Front seat heat settings were also reprogrammed to be warmer than stock settings (see pg 25 post# 246) as this is my personal preference. New Bilstein PSS-10 coilovers with Ground Control Camber kit (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=617694#post617694) was installed greatly improving the overall handling and ride quality of this car. An OEM M3 front strut bar was chosen and is installed in the engine bay as well as the G.A.S. CCV replacement kit (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=616501#post616501), G.A.S. DISA rebuild kit, the G.A.S. 1.2 bar Black Aluminum radiator cap and ECS Tuning Black Aluminum dip stick. To add to the uniqueness of this build, is an OEM BMW rear electric sunshade and a set of OEM M3 side mirrors (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=618315#post618315) to help complete my build. ;) The OEM M3 side mirrors (https://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?23459-My-Mystic-Adventure&p=618418#post618418) really complete the "ZHP" look in my opinion :cool

Still planned for my daily driver not mentioned above are complete refresh of ZHP front control arms, new Z4M FCABs, OEM M3 front sway bar/330 CiC rear sway bar, Turner RTAB replacement, Turner rear lower adjustable control arms, Brembo BBK/2-piece rotor (front/rear) retrofit to replace the Wildwood brake setup currently in place and quite possibly a Garbino front carbon fiber lip. Also worth mentioning is the planned installation of my rear DINAN tower brace.

After reading this lengthy first post, you can see there have been a lot of planning and work put into this ZHP since rescuing it. It has been a challenge not many would accept or take the time to follow thru with due to the high mileage and money needed to restore this example. This ZHP has been a hard luck case from the very start which was abused and neglected for far too long. This is a car that I feel is still worthy of rescue from past owners who chose just to drive this car rather than properly maintain it. Realizing my ZHP is a 1 of 80 build, I felt it deserved far better treatment/maintenance than what it had been exposed to under it's previous ownership. It's mine now and I'm fixing this car even though it continues to rack up the miles and it's value is in the dirt. What matters to me is that it will be brought back to better condition and that this is a well optioned and maintained daily driver once again. Once I am satisfied with all the maintenance and upgrades, I will then turn my focus into the interior of this car and bring it back to pristine condition and then finally, address all the exterior cosmetic flaws this car has to bring her back to the condition this car really deserves to be in. In time mileage will only be a number for this car as she will ride and drive like a new car again. :cool

My thanks to all who have supported my ZHP journey. I enjoyed my ride with this memorable and amazing platform. I will still be in the E46 game but going forward will be exclusively involved with my M3.

It was time for me to move on from my ZHP and get into something different and start having fun pursuing a different path. I am looking forward to new adventures with people passionate about the Mini platform. I will still be available to those who reach out with questions regarding mods I have done to my ZHP so feel free to reach out :thumbsup

The first thing I focused on when I got my ZHP home was getting her a proper detail since she would become an "outside" car. That means both the Audi and ZHP will be getting more frequent detailing compared to my M3 and Porsche for obvious reasons... as with all my new cars I do extensive detailing which starts with giving the car a good wash then going over every panel with clay bar and feeling the panels by hand... this is a long and painful process but the end result provides a soft velvety feel of the paint surface. I then use a 3M compound which has worked very well for my process and seal the paint surface with Rejex paint sealer. Once the shine and depth is where I want it to be, I use Griots Ceramic Wax to put a good protective coat on the car and finish with Pinnacle Sovereign wax to complete the detail. It is a lot of work but I am rewarded with a stunning looking paint that brings attention to people passing by my garage. Sometimes it is fun to watch people when driving by with this car... something about a clean blue car with angel eyes I guess... but I like keeping my cars clean ;)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744635387_231450ef56_b.jpg

I have lots of blue painter's tape that I use when detailing my cars like to do this with the car in the garage where I can warm the garage as necessary to provide a comfortable area to work in...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743791518_062b7eb958_b.jpg

What you're seeing in this picture is not dust on the paint but rather chips provided by some dumbass previous owner who decided to drift the car on some gravel road . . . so it is imperative to keep the driver's side well detailed and waxed until the time comes that I can get the entire car a proper quality respray . . .

The back end of the car always get lots of dirt kicked up when driving so this is one of the areas I always concentrate on other than the front and hood/fender area... this is also the area other drivers tend to see most of so it is nice to keep this area clean . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744526481_6ae2ddefb0_b.jpg

When this clean and polished, this is when Mystic Blue really stands out . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743791458_006745bbc2_b.jpg

Lots of blue painter's tape was used during my initial detailing, preparation is the key to a good detail. :cool

Then you get a mirror like glass finish on the paint. Nothing looks better to me . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744635302_a9d6de185a_b.jpg

Once you get the car to this level of detailing, cleaning it becomes so much easier because dirt does not stick on it like it does on a non-detailed car . . .

One of the things I always do with my BMWs is to install angel eyes. I have always liked them and have found I tend to favor the Umnitza Orion V4 angel eyes because they pop when you have them on...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743848888_53967a2c42_b.jpg

This is how they come packaged when you get them.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744691867_70e1bd3e47_b.jpg

They are expensive from the angel eyes perspective but you really get what you pay for. I like having quality parts on my cars...

The light output from these are just amazing...there is no way anyone can say they did not notice you when you're coming up on them...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50743848273_0186cd4a87_b.jpg

Then adding these LED Morimoto fog lights really sets the car off from the others...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744591586_636730641c_b.jpg

They are adjustable and the light patterns are perfect for fog lights...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744590776_c44b77bb58_b.jpg

Very clean look :cool

The next thing I did was install my OEM M3 front strut bar instead of installing my spare BMW Performance carbon fiber strut bar because one of the previous owners decided to glue the hood insulation rather than buy a new one (again cheaping out on this car) so I will eventually have to rip off the old hood insulation and take off the glue residue from the hood surface. What a PITA job that will be!!! So in the mean time I decided the M3 strut bar will do...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744700487_821499eb23_b.jpg

The engine compartment looks much better now that it has been sorted and cleaned...

I had the new auto dim rear view mirror but when I got my ZHP it had this baby rattle of a BMW assist rear view mirror... yes. there was something very wrong with this mirror as something inside was broken so it was replaced and this mirror thrown away
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744586586_4958652501_b.jpg

I could not just swap the rear view mirrors because I would need to remove pins 4, 5, 6 and 7 from the mirror wiring harness plug so that I would not damage/smoke the new E90 hidden compass/homelink rear view mirror. Since I did not have time when I got the car I decided to wait until after the car was brought home to do this mod... funny thing is that once I had the BMW Assist rear view mirror removed it rattled. Apparently something broke inside this mirror and I am glad I was able to upgrade this part for a more functional and useful part :)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744586831_79b91e7ef4_b.jpg

I feel this part is more appropriate for my ZHP sedan :cool

On the first night Botond and I stopped over to Brett's home to rest up before driving back and Brett was kind enough to give me this UUC clutch stop which I installed when I got home...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744696907_1c2f93c0ef_b.jpg

It is a better part than the OEM clutch stop, which I gave to Daniel, the car comes with. Much more durable.

I have always been a proponent of the Sprint Booster product so when I got my ZHP I knew I would be getting this for the new daily driver... I just did not know that Sprint Booster has been improved. Rev 3 of Sprint Booster is much better in that there have been two additional modes added: Valet mode where you can adjust throttle input by as much as 75% less for valet parking so they can't hot rod your car, and Parking Mode where once the car is parked you can disable throttle inputs all together... Parking mode would be useful if you're leaving the car parked for a period of time and not using it... like at the airport...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744588716_ef4225f1cb_b.jpg

So I have this located here...you can see the car's original black cube interior trim in these pictures...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744703072_f6193cef86_b.jpg

Next on my list of mods is the TPMS retrofit. I got the wire, water proof plug and pins to make this mod work. I also sourced the new control panel with the TPMS button and have already swapped this part into the car.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50744595221_dfd3a6951a_b.jpg

The only thing I need to do is connect the wire to pin 2 of the connector to the control panel switch and then route the wire thru the ECU and to the Mk60 connector and install the pin into pin 40 of that connector. Then program the car to have TPMS and activate it. will have Botond to help me code this feature into my ZHP...

If any of you are on the fence to getting this device for your BMW.... do it! The bluetooth streaming integration and hands free communication is outstanding. My iPhone 11 Pro Max connects as soon as I turn the car on and automatically bluetooth streams thru my BMW stereo. It is connected where the CD changer is in back and yet, the connection has no issues and audio is perfectly clear. I'm very pleased with this and Ted provides support for this amazing product. Can't go wrong here :thumbsup

Since my car came pre-wired for the factory alarm system but did not have it installed like pretty much most of the E46 BMWs do... I ordered my kit from Poland.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50745224853_af81f55ab8_b.jpg
Since this was just the main parts and did not include the fasteners I had to source them separately from the dealer and wait until everything arrived. The install was easy since I have done this on my first ZHP and on my M3 as well. Coding for the alarm was not necessary since Botond had already taken care of this earlier. It was plug and play in this case. :)

My ZHP was also missing it's owner's handbook and storage pouch so I sourced a completely fresh set for the car. Every car should have everything it came from the factory with as far as I am concerned.

I did the arm rest delete today when I took out the OE arm rest and damaged/worn center console. The Hazard/Door Lock switch was gooped with what looks like coffee residue so I got out Adams General Purpose Cleaner and began cleaning out this area in my car.

I should have taken a few pictures showing just how dirty it was underneath but I’m sure after reading my previous posts you get the idea that the previous owners were careless and did not care...

Part of this rescue is to change out all parts that I’m not happy with so with the Hazard/Door Lock switch not staying mounted in the center console, this was the part I wanted changed out when I could.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201222/b1fc599f1f31030420c80ce5e0323fca.jpg

There was a lot of crap taken out from this area... lots of crap wiped off and vacuumed before the new center console was installed...

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201222/a49496743c95f385ee071c60cfebcc4a.jpg

I reused the cup holders and coin tray for the time being.... the rear ash tray was filthy and I’m washing it out using hot water and dish washing detergent to get rid of whatever crud that has set on it...
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201222/59cbd19896185228895ad6f643c8e457.jpg

Disgusting.... I will also eventually replace this part as well...

When I had my safety inspection the front rotors and brake pads were in rough shape and needed replacement so I saw this as an opportunity to completely flush the brake fluid.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51857436605_949b9a8cf9_o.png

When I started to flush out the old brake fluid I was not prepared to see just how poorly this car has been maintained by all it’s previous owners . . .
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210301/723f0a6b4e83937a292898f817366b84.png

Looking at what was in this bottle resembles used engine oil to me. I have never seen brake fluid look this bad before... ever...

There is absolutely no reason to allow brake fluid on any car to get this bad. No reason at all so I have been putting lots of time into this car and as I go thru every part/system I will continue to use OEM or OEM+ parts and fluids on this car. I won’t get by using the cheapest parts like what has been done to this car. [emoji34]

I have a blown speaker on my front passenger's door so refreshing all the speakers including my rear subs is on my list of many things to do . . .

With that said I sourced an extra set of HK rear subwoofer enclosures for sedan to begin my speaker refresh project . . .
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50932813033_97d756c1a4_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50933504786_ac4bb2c5b1_b.jpg

The 330i HK enclosures house 6x9" speakers so I sourced new Rockford Fosgate 6x9" speakers to swap into these enclosures.

I expect that there will be some modifications needing to be done to my enclosures so that I can get the new speakers to fit in and be properly secured. Right now I have plenty of time to make all the necessary modifications/adjustments to my enclosures once I receive my new Rockford Fosgate speakers. I will secure new fasteners to secure the speakers to the enclosures.

Thanks Will! I figured since I am back in the ZHP scene again I would post a project which is more appropriate to this forum...

I'll be doing things a little bit differently from what I did with my first ZHP but there will be some mods I will be repeating such as the Gruppe M CAI, UUC Corsa TSE3 full exhaust and OEM M3 side mirror retrofit....

Steve,

At one point I used to have and own 3 BMW Performance carbon fiber strut braces. I sold two of them and managed to get one back. I keep this as a spare for my M3 in case the one I'm using ever breaks...

As for the TPMS this is what it is...

"TPMS/RPA Systems (2003 - 2006 E46 and all year M3) uses the existing ABS/DSC/Wheel Spin Sensors and a control module to determine when a tire is low on pressure. The TPMS button ONLY resets and calibrates the system."

there is a really good writeup by delmarco on E46Fanatics for this: https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/fyi-diy-difference-between-e46-rdc-and-rpa-style-tpms-systems.966153/

I'm thoroughly confused after reading that. I have an 06--shouldn't I already have this:

TPMS/RPA Systems (2003 - 2006 E46 and all year M3) uses the existing ABS/DSC/Wheel Spin Sensors and a control module to determine when a tire is low on pressure. The TPMS button ONLY resets and calibrates the system.

my button strip currently looks like this...
(BTW): Interesting the vert doesn't have the button for subwoofer on/off...

That's exactly how I'm feeling about my ZHP. This car deserves way better than how the previous owners have treated it. It will take time but I will get this car back to shape and it will be just as nice as my M3. I just did not count on having 4 cars to own and maintain... such as life but I'm enjoying it! Thanks Gary! Yeah, this ZHP has kept me busy since I rescued her from her previous owners. I did not realize just how much I would miss having a ZHP in my garage but while working on this car it all came back to me... :)

That Gen 3 Sprint Booster is amazing! I like the additional selectability in settings and the two additional modes.

There was a lot to cover, especially the issues I have identified due to outright neglect and lack of care from the previous owners of this poor ZHP... you can see just how much they cheaped out on maintenance and care to this car. Shame... people like them should not be allowed to own nice cars because they don't deserve them... this car will require lots of time, work and money to fully sort out. I have no problem putting in a lot of money and time into this car because it is a unique car that deserves to be preserved :thumbsup

I wanted to show everyone just how bad this poor ZHP was at the time I rescued her. Most of the issues I found were not disclosed by the previous owner but in his defense I like to think he was just too ignorant to know everything wrong with this car, but in reality he’s more like an opportunistic asshat who likes to make money off of people for his gain.

Either way, I purchased this car from a non-enthusiast who thinks he knows these cars. Apparently not....

Charlie, I am glad that you made a decision to document everything. There is tons of high quality job that has been done to this car.
For those if you who knows Charlie, understand how much of his time and elbow grease were spent between July and now. I've witnessed few thigs that he worked on when I stopped by see him during the summer.
The paint is smooth as brand new glass. It has stunning amount if shine for 230k mile car. But you know, Charlie detailing standards are high and I am not surprised that his car is always clean.
Pictures below and showing the man on the mission of cleaning roof gutters and painting the roof plastic trim. I do not have a pictures of those nasty looking gutters, but trust me, there were pretty bad and I have no idea where the car was parked in the past.

Anyways, good luck Charlie. You are doing crazy amount of work by keeping 4 cars at high standards. I am looking forward for more progress.
P.S. we still need to do a proper photo shoot when Botond will bring his ZHP back to live. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201223/ac83cf87823e3cfddb12e91e992c79e3.jpg37593

I have pictures Sergy. I forgot to post these when I posted a few pictures of issues this car came to me with so here they are for everyone to see. This is what happens when you leave your car parked under trees for a given length of time. This is why for those of you who do this to your car, you should be checking your drains and roof rails to make sure they are not crapped out like mine were.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751568527_daee8e6649_4k.jpg
All four points were crapped out just as bad as you see in the picture above.... when I pulled off both roof rails, the undersides of both of them were completely covered in this crap...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50750725583_cdff4d3471_4k.jpg
Looking at my tracks right after I took off the roof rails, what respect I had for the previous owner (who bragged he knew ZHPs) went away. At this time I did not finish identifying all the issues I had posted in the beginning of my project thread. This is when I began looking deeper into my car...
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751568397_f9815324e3_4k.jpg
The tracks themselves were crudded with debris and pine needles so I already knew my drains were clogged... SMFH

I took my time cleaning off the roof rails and tracks and a lot of microfiber cloth and cleaner spray were used in the process to get my roof rails perfectly cleaned up for painting...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751463556_eeef06e8b2_4k.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751568327_1fa72d7ede_4k.jpg
These tracks should always be kept clean to look like this... this way your drains will never get clogged...

The outside part of both roof rails were faded and paint in poor shape so I sanded them and then primed the roof rails for painting.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751454956_724f405be5_4k.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50751454906_010c2e6154_4k.jpg
Even painting these roof rails from my garage is a huge improvement as compared to the condition they were when I got this car. How the previous owner/s took care of this car is disappointing to say the least... I would consider how my ZHP was treated by it's previous owners more as "abuse" than neglect...

Anyways, good luck Charlie. You are doing crazy amount of work by keeping 4 cars at high standards. I am looking forward for more progress.

Sergy, you know I will get this car back in shape in time.... the previous owner pissed me off by how he allowed this car to be sold in the condition like this and cheaping out on it in both maintenance and care... Everything will be sorted on this car when I'm done. Worse case, if I have to replace the engine then an S54 will be in the future for this car...but I will look at this if this engine ever dies on me.... thanks for your compliments of my work :thumbsup

Looks like I jumped ahead by uploading those pictures-:)
I was pretty sure that you took a lot of pictures while painting the plastic covers for the gutters.
The engine should be good with your maintenance standards. You are doing everything proactively and that is the key.

You did not jump ahead Sergy. When you posted you reminded me that I forgot to post the pictures showing just how dirty the roof racks and tracks were. The roof rails were in rough shape as you saw when I took them off to clean.

The roof rails are actually metal, not plastic so some cleaning and light sanding and the rails were ready to prime then paint. They are good enough until the time comes that I take the car in to repaint the whole thing... that will cost $$$ to have done right...

I will be addressing maintenance issues based on priority since this car has a lot of issues to correct thanks to it's previous owners... it has been positive progress all the way but if you look at it this way... there is only one direction I can go with this car and it will take some time getting there but I will have fun working on this car in the mean time. :)

Some things I want to get like the CSL Bootlid for sedan will just have to wait based on priorities I have between this car and the other cars I have in my garage... it's like I have to find a balance which is hard to do because I'm having so much fun getting my ZHP sorted...all my other cars are sorted. :)

I had Mike Coby's alcantara shift boot in my first ZHP. His products are amazing but you don't have a lifetime warranty on them whereas the alcantara shift boot sold by FCP Euro comes with a lifetime warranty and it is an OEM part so I'm okay with this :thumbsup

I paid $130 +shipping for my set so I'm happy with the purchase. It is nice when you have friends looking out and they send you links. This is how I was able to get my set for my ZHP. :cool

I still feel the ZHP should have come with these door sills instead of the bland chrome lined ones that they have. There are a few things I am in the process of correcting for my ZHP which I feel should have been from the factory.... the ///M door sills being one of them and then the OEM M3 side mirrors being the other option that should have come with the Performance Package (ZHP) option... but then that is how I feel the ZHP should have been from the factory.

Yes, Sergy does this. I recently helped a friend of mine install his OEM M3 side mirrors to his vert and it came out perfectly. He recently posted them on his thread. This is something I need to do to my sedan and I plan to do this sometime in Spring when weather starts to warm up. With sedans though, I will also need to mod the side mirror base plates using the Rogue Engineering templates. So much more work involved doing this on sedans but so worth it when it is all finished... can't wait to start this yet again to another sedan ZHP... I did this with my first ZHP, loved how it looked. :thumbsup

Update us on the AS4s, I'm interested in how they compare to the AS3s as well.

At the conclusion of my recent road trip to Columbus, Ohio and back... I have driven 1150 miles on my new Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires. At first you can hear road noise from these tires as they are "breaking in". Overall ride comfort was excellent and these tires gripped the road very well even when going over the wonderful bumpy roads of New York City. On the highway there is not much to comment on but when going thru the twisty roads in the mountains of Pennsylvania, that's where these tires shined as the saying goes. I had my expectations having been used to the performance of the Pilot Sport AS3 Plus tires. I was not disappointed. :thumbsup

The Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires are amazingly good tires! Compared to the Pilot Sport AS3 Plus tires I have on my Audi, the new tires build confidence with it's ability to grip the road even when in the break-in period. On my way home I was looking forward to driving thru the mountains of Pennsylvania again and thru the several tunnels that was on my route home. I can easily say compared to the cheap quality Sumitomo tires that were on my Style 135 wheels when I purchased my ZHP, it is easily a night and day experience to have these Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires. :thumbsup

I will be using these tires on my ZHP going forward... @fredo, feel free to put your thoughs on these Michelins :thumbsup

Pilot Sport AS4 FTW ! I'm very happy with my tires as well. The road noise is minimum and that's a big factor for me. Sadly one of my tires got a nail one month after purchase. But the tire shop was able to patch it.

Actually, we ended up going on I-76 thru Pennsylvania... it was a good trip :thumbsup. I connected onto I-76 at New Stanton then to I-78 into NYC to connect to I-95N to home.... hitting NYC at 3:30am Sunday morning was awesome because the roads were clear and Botond and I were able to get thru NYC without an issue... no traffic jams or accidents... it was nice...

Nice! Even though I live in MI, I can pretty much picture your route.

My wife and I drive to NJ from MI at least once a month and we usually take I-80. I-76 is definitely more scenic and has good facilities but for us at least, it’s not worth paying ~$40 one way in tolls especially since the time difference is less than 20min.

No arguements there! Having to pay tolls suck.

I figured since this was the first time I have driven my ZHP on a long road trip (close to 1200 miles) since purchasing it, I did not want to chance anything just in case I ran into any issues along the trip. As far as I am concerned, I still have lots of work that I want to put into this car to make her solid maintenance-wise since the previous owner/s have done a poor job in maintaining her... I felt taking a route where there were plenty of service centers along the route would be a safer way to make this trip :thumbsup

I have ordered a few things for my blauzed recently as some of you know... the waiting part is always the hardest which requires patience...

I ordered spare rear subwoofer enclosures for blauzed so that I can put new Rockford Fosgate 6x9 speakers into them to start the process of refreshing my speakers inside...

Then I ordered the BMW All Season Cargo Liner to complete my OWM BMW All Season Mats for blauzed...

Since picking up a set of M-Door Sills for blauzed at a killer price, I found another set so I purchased them to give to a good friend for his birthday present :drevil

Knowing he would not do this for himself although I knew this is one item he would not mind getting, I went ahead and got them and know he will appreciate this :thumbsup

I still need to install my M-Door Sills (temp) as I have been too lazy recently and of course had been getting shitty weather as of late... I will get to this soon...

The Status Gruppe Tuning CSL Bootlid for sedan has been purchased so I can now just wait and allow them to fabricate the bootlid and then ship it out to me... I have been thru this process with Scorza when they fabricated my carbon fiber bootlid for my M3...

I'm looking forward to installing this bootlid on blauzed as I know it will change the overall look of the car. To complete the look I'm going after, I will need to get a set of OEM M3 side mirrors to retrofit and this will be happening this season as well. Base plates will be finished in glossy black and the mirror enclosures will be in Mystic Blue paint... the car will look amazing when these items have been installed... :drevil

These door sills are temporary as I am looking to install the BMW Individual door sills since the ZHP option was developed by BMW Individual group. Not opening this up for any discussion, this is how I want to do my build for this ZHP. Simple as that . . .

Does this noticeably benefit the car?

I can't answer this question however I can say it can't hurt. The Gruppe M intake that is installed on my M3 has a ram scoop to allow air to my airbox so I have to "assume" that adding this air scoop will provide a similar performance improvement.

Does it work with the Motorsport intake?

I have never used the Motorsport intake so I don't know if it will work or not. I plan to replace my stock intake with another Gruppe M intake for 330 and know this will work using this intake. For me there's no better intake than the Gruppe M but that's my opinion...

Supposedly easy to attach with no mods to car. Please take pix as you go. Thanks!

I will post pics as I install this item to my ZHP tomorrow :cool

I'm already looking at evolution paths for blauzed as I am typing this... a few people who I text regularly already know what I have in store for blauzed... I will add, it is not about money or "how much" all of this will cost as much as it is about the journey I have taken with blauzed and reaching the vision I have for her... ;)

I installed my air scoop this morning in the damned New England wind…. I hate this wind….

Installing this is a very easy process. You unclip the three points of the snorkel and take it off.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/1e25978b757f2e86161b8a67f8c91e91.jpg

Clean the area while you’re there and take off the two phillips screws where the intake air scoop will be attached to…
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/b1e2958bfa40062f30e8a9a555105769.jpg

Then slide in the air scoop like this…
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/44c7d0588c8ac2499ef7d2428d721044.jpg
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50979958957_78f832e83c_o.jpg

Line the two screw holes and screw in the two phillips screws…
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/156cd3fb77001452c21ddce1970ba194.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/caf78d34033bf960d9b4d04d5f866ea7.jpg

When you're done it should look like this…
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/3359f513cd3a36975eec31424996c722.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/db0d00cc1f6a76051819ad5477fbcc4a.jpg

Then reattach the snorkel and put in the three clips and you’re done.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/c43dad4566a0d6d05ecf9250badbf147.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/2013c87d9e75c0245f986a4bade8219c.jpg

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210225/dde86c7cfbef54c78baebc67449eccf8.jpg

Then with the hood shut you will see the intake air scoop lurking behind the grills but won’t notice them unless you know what you’re looking at[emoji57]

Thanks for your input regarding this mod... like I said, I have had this in my last ZHP and wanted to get this again for my current one.

To get the full benefit of this mod I feel I have to add a good CAI, improved throttle body and a good exhaust and tune. I plan to install a CAI to this car next along with other components of the same brand although the choice of components I am planning to add to blauzed is more for the name than it is outright performance in my opinion... I know there are better options but I want that badge to put on my CSL bootlid :drevil

This time I'm doing it right with my second ZHP... the previous owner sourced and installed $300 coilovers just before I purchased blauzed and when I asked him what brand he could not tell me (or just would not tell me) so I knew I would end up sourcing proper coilovers within my first year of ownership to replace these after getting this car home. Last time when I had my ZHP I used BC Racing coilovers and although Botond found them harsh and stiff, I was okay using them. This time I listened to Botond and purchased these Bilstein PSS-10 coilover kit from FCP Euro and will be changing out coilovers and installing these come April/May. :cool

The new coilovers have been ordered and purchased, now to wait for them to arrive and then set aside to allow me to finish other projects currently waiting to be started in my garage. :drevil

I think it is a matter of knowing that these coilovers were installed by a guy who knows absolutely nothing about ZHPs other than flipping them and making a profit. Everything I have seen with this car shows just how much this guy has cut corners on maintenance and safety on this car. When I got this car she was in sad shape and needed lots of love... with each passing week I have been making positive progress on this poor neglected car and will bring her back to where she belong...I guess for some reason I like to rescue cars...

I think once things settle a little regarding mod parts acquisition... (CSL air box for my M3, Wilwood BBKs and an additional BBS CH wheel for my ZHP), I will be looking to get a Garbino-style carbon fiber lip spoiler and carbon fiber rear MTEC II dissuser sometime this summer since the car won't be fully repainted just yet...

With my CSL bootlid mounted, these additional carbon fiber bits (thanks to the carbon fiber fairies) should look really nice on my blauzed. :drevilWhere were you going to source the Garbino style lip? I wonder how difficult would it be to try to get an actual Garbino from Japan. Especially if we can get a few people interested as I'd love to get one, price dependent of course

This is true... as I have posted earlier, I'm going with the G-style lip because it will be cheaper in the long run and I won't panic if I hit or drag the lip over something as I would having an authentic Garbino lip on my car...

the price would equate to $548 but then you would have to deal with customs and shipping charges for this item which will drive it over the $1000 mark. Stuart went this route for his wagon and the part is truly a work of art :cool

I went to the Garbino web site and it looks like they still sell this lip for the MTECII bumper. It is still on their web page for purchase. :drevil

Please keep us updated!

I don't know if I will go forward with this... depends on just how much it will cost...

on another note, I intend to swap out my front radiator support for one used on verts. The vert part is reinforced and will add more support for the car (especially if I end up doing a motor swap sometime in the distant future) :)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51023630598_f21da13a39_k.jpg
From the picture above you can see exactly where all the reinforcements are on this front radiator support. The ones that come with coupes and sedans are hollow aluminum supports that bend easily. I want my front to be solid... :drevil

I did this mod on my M3 and it was perfect. This part will also fit sedans... :cool

Hi do you have a part number by chance? This is great info and an impressive build. Love it [emoji106][emoji846]

The part number for the cowl panel (top part) is 51-71-7-114-123

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/cowl-panel/51717114123/

This is the part you want. You can transfer the rest of the OE parts to this part then bolt it back on the car and put it back together.

Thanks for the compliments on my build :cool

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51025086583_4cdf2b3ef8_o.png
This is why I am installing this part on my ZHP, why I already installed this part on my M3. This is a much stronger/solid part as compared to the hollow thin aluminum ones found on coupes and sedans. The thinner aluminum ones are easily bent and it does not take too much to bend them, I know...

I saved the part numbers from the German forum some time ago: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-117377-51717111694-genuine-bmw-part/ and https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/cowl-panel/51717114123/

Keep in mind that this more than triples the weight. (4.6 lbs vs 14.5 lbs)

I don't have the part number, sorry. I just have a parts source from a friend who parts out wrecked M3's and when he has a vert that he parts out I will be getting this part from him. :) I will try getting the right part number for this part and post it.

Thanks for the compliments on my build :cool

I try to provide information on what I’m doing in my project threads. Hopefully to inspire people and give them ideas on what they can do to their cars. That is the whole point in my making these project threads although I have been accused of ruining a car by putting “cheap Korean parts” on it… ;)

With that said, everyone are entitled to their own opinion. They are free to do what they want in how they set up their rides. Hopefully they won’t butcher/hack their rides like how the previous owner hacked up my ZHP. I have been correcting the many issues I have found in my ZHP since purchasing it and have been making positive progress. I will continue working on this ZHP and bring her back to where she should be[emoji41][emoji1417]

I’m making a street/highway cruising car where times between stop lights don’t matter[emoji16] I’m looking at making my car’s chassis stiff and solid.

Besides… if I were to seriously track my ZHP, I would need to rebuild my motor and supercharge it to haul my fat ass which in itself is an added 280lbs [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

Why are you changing it to the vert ?

Because the vert part is much stronger and provides better support. The front radiator support that is put on coupes/sedans/tourings bend very easy. I know because I bent mine on my M3 and replaced it with a vert front radiator support part very similar to this part. After I replaced the front radiator support I could tell the front end of my M3 is very solid so this is why I am doing this to my ZHP. [emoji57]

I now have a set of OEM M3 side mirrors to retrofit to my ZHP thanks to my friend Steve. :cool They are stored on shelving in my garage where they will stay. Once I get Spring cleaning done in my Porsche garage, I will be able to start working on these mirror base plates on my workbench so that they will mount on my sedan.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210318/9fead29a3597d8cb3f4d23d86e3120d4.jpg

I picked up my MTEC II Passenger Side Skirt from the dealer today and will also get this part painted out and installed once the paint has dried.

All this will be done sometime this Spring as I have several projects lined up already[emoji41] There will be much more in store for blauzed this year (Status Gruppe Tuning CSL bootlid for sedan).

On another note an unexpected event happened to my ZHP which will need addressing within a few weeks… replacement of my front driver’s side window regulator. At time of purchase I suspected it was on it’s way out because the window was opening/closing slower than normal and yesterday it started making loud crunching noises when I rolled up my window so I stopped using it. This was expected so I will be addressing this very soon[emoji38]

EDIT: the cause of the loud crunching noise I heard from operating my window originated from the aft regulator rail being loosely mounted on the door. I had to retighten the nuts securing the aft regulator rail and everything was okay again. I took out the window regulator to inspect everything and found no issues with the regulator assembly so I reinstalled it.

I haven’t forgotten about getting my Xenon lighting rewired for bi-Xenon functionality. It will happen by this summer[emoji41]

I thought about getting these for my zhp but I really didn't want my ride to be any harsher so I've been hesitant. I'm not slammed by any means, only lowered on H&R Sports so I figured it wasn't an absolute requirement.

Looking forward to your review but now that I think about it, it will be hard to judge them vs the actual suspension setup when everything is being done at once. [emoji848]

E36 M3 (96+) mounts are another alternative, as they add camber and caster while still maintaining some rubber. Not adjustable, but pretty cheap if you get the Corteco brand ones.

I started Spring cleaning in my Porsche garage where the majority of my maintenance will occur for my Porsche and blauzed… putting all my tools away and organizing my work bench and I found an extra set of brand new Status Gruppe Tuning adjustable end links that I will be using when I install my Bilstein PSS-10/Ground Control Camber kit this Spring.

That looks great.

What's the difference between the ZHP and F10 M5 knobs, is it weight?

One is lit and the other is not. I have had the F10 M5 shift knob in my M3 for many years now and I love it. Both shift knobs are weighted and feel good when shifting. The M5 shift knob is shaped similarly to the ZHP shift knob. You really don't notice any difference between the two but I never took the time to do a side-by-side comparison because to me they look and feel the same.

To get an actual OEM ZHP shift knob that has been modified to be a lighted ZHP shift knob from leatherZ you will pay $357 and the lit F10 M5 shift knob with OEM lighting will run $294 from FCP Euro and you get lifetime warranty with the FCP Euro order. Another thing to think about for when the shift knob starts to look ratty years later....

The wiring for the lit stick shift taps into the ash tray lighting wires. Once done, the LCM lighting dimmer switch controls the brightness of the shifter light. I know how to solder and use heat shrink so when done no one will notice this is out of order when looking in this area :cool

This is where you tap when you install these lighted shifters[emoji1417] I have done this mod twice now, the first time on my first ZHP and then on my current ZHP... never had any issues. :)

This afternoon I tapped into the ash tray wiring for my lit shift knob retrofit.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51092748714_15b409a2b8_3k.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51092670761_7618c0626a_3k.jpg

next thing to do is to connect the shift knob to the modded wiring to make sure everything works.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51093213728_11e4ff07e6_3k.jpg

It was bright outside but I could see the lighting work so later when it gets dark, I will take a few pictures showing the final result... for now, I finished everything and put everything back together.

Like my ZHP before this one, I have a lit shift knob just like how I have it in my M3 :cool

I got the additional wiring to tap into my ash tray lighting wiring from here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-BMW-E39-E46-X5-Wiring-Harness-For-Start-Lock-Module/302109127027

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51099666557_2116876f98_c.jpg

and I got the OEM plug to use from FCP Euro and here's the link to the plug I used:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-universal-pin-terminal-repair-kit-genuine-bmw-61132360043

My front driver's window regulator went out recently and I ordered the replacement part this morning from FCP Euro. If they continue their service I should be expecting the new part being delivered to me by tomorrow then I can plan to replace the faulty regulator on Sunday....

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51104794394_ebc8fe9b07_c.jpg

I'm not surprised to see this and I will be looking to replace the remaining three window regulators over the upcoming summer as part of my preventive maintenance...

cakM3
04-10-2021, 01:48 PM
The new front driver's side window regulator came in today but it turned out I did not need to use it so I will put the new part away until I have sourced the front passenger and rear door window regulators then swap in the new parts into all four doors... I will also be sourcing new vapor seals for all four doors as well as new butyl tape and do everything right when I tackle this project over the upcoming summer...

I found more issues regarding use of hardware to secure the door panels. The previous owners used any screw that would work rather then the right screws... SMH...

I will be correcting this issue as well...

The problem with my front driver's window regulator was that the rear rail was not secured properly and both the top and bottom nuts were loose. I took out the window regulator to inspect the part and found no issues with the part as everything was in order and functioning properly so I reinstalled the part and secured all associated bolts ensuring they all were tight. Then I reconnected everything and verified there were no issues associated with the front window regulator.

This was my first time working with the window regulator and I did not realize just how easy it is to remove/replace this assembly. I won't be taking my cars to the shop to do this job again.....

Does it ever get boiling lava hot in the summer with direct sunlight and/or heat?

I have never had any issues with excessive heat from this ebrake handle, but then I don't remember if it was that hot. Been a long time since I have used this eBrake handle in my car... I had this installed on my first BMW, a '99 323i, and loved it. When I sold that BMW, I removed the eBrake handle to put on my next BMW which was my last ZHP but I never got around to it so I found this eBrake handle while sorting out my garage the other weekend and decided to install it in my current ZHP.

Worse case, I can always put a microfiber towel over the handle when left exposed in direct sunlight. To me it's no big deal... I might need to do a slight adjustment of the eBrake handle though...

Yeah, theres always options out there to keep the interior cool. In my old 1996 VW Harlequin Golf, the previous owner machined his own 100% fully billet aluminum shift knob that, while good looking, was extremely hot to the touch. I would share the same sentiment as the person who originally brought the question/potential issue up. I wouldn't want to brand myself! haha

Will, once I have this installed I will provide my impressions between my original ZHP shifter and my new AutoSolutions SSK. I’m sure I will be blown away by the difference… enough so that I will probably get one for my M3.[emoji41]

I got one for M3 if you ever decide. But it's custom though so you probably won't want it.

I met Shawn and his awesome family when I picked up my alcantara interior. Botond and I really packed up his touring with Shawn’s help. It was great to chat with Shawn a bit and to personally check out his M3 sedan. What an amazing car!!!

I wanted those seats so bad

I knew that if I didn't react quick enough to contact Shawn and buy these seats I would regret the opportunity so I'm glad I was the first one to contact him to seal the deal. For me the hard part was getting down there since this would be a 2000 mile trip to retrieve Shawn's Alcantara interior, but it was well worth it to me :)

I actually enjoyed driving down there even though it is a long trip just to pick up an interior but I was picking up Shawn's interior that he had in his M3 sedan. There were unique touches to this interior such as full lumbar support/side bolster adjustment sedan seats which, in my opinion, made them even more unique. I am really looking forward to installing them into my ZHP tomorrow while at Botond's place before continuing my drive home.

Going to Shawn's home to pick up his Alcantara interior also gave me the opportunity to meet Shawn in person and to look at his M3 sedan. Seeing Shawn's M3 in person and talking to him made this entire trip amazing. The attention to detail going into his car is what I would expect from any true enthusiast... the attention to details in the project. It is always nice to meet fellow enthusiasts like Shawn who really go the distance for their unique builds. What a privilege! :thumbsup

I had just convinced a cousin of my wife to drive to Georgia from NC. By the time I got back on IG to make arrangements with Shawn, the deal was done. Still hadn’t worked out how I was going to get them back to Denver, but that was a minor detail.

I completed my road trip to Georgia and back to get Shawn’s Alcantara interior today and install them in my ZHP while at Botond's place.

Right now I’m beat as hell from all the driving but to me it was well worth the drive. Botond provided the transport for my Alcantara interior and we put about 2200 miles for this trip on his touring. Thanks for always being there to lend me a hand whenever I needed it Botond! [emoji1687]

I enjoyed driving Botond’s refreshed touring… what I feel a touring should be with a ZHP motor. Man was it fun to drive, especially on the Merritt Parkway. [emoji1]

Seats have been refreshed… car is dirty underneath. I will be addressing everything including steam cleaning the carpeting sometime in May.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210426/470168c539580801d7b40d18c50fb5f6.png

In this picture below I was having a hard time getting leverage on the rear inside bolt when Botond snapped this picture but I got the inside bolts snug and torqued.[emoji1419] Damn! I did not realize just how much hair I have... used to being bald all these years...

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51143179850_a58e915380_o.png

The old seats and the door cards were left with Botond to be used in a future project he has in mind. For his services I gave him these as he was a huge help getting my new seats back[emoji1417]

When I have recovered from this trip I will give everything inside a good proper cleaning then I will grab my Nikon to get really good pictures but these pictures were taken from my iPhone and will have to do for now. I wanted to share my recent project with everyone. Again my sincere thanks to Shawn and Botond for making all of this possible. His seats will live on in my ZHP[emoji41]

EDIT: I followed this procedure in the coding section of this forum to update the values for my heated seats as I wanted them just a tad bit higher due to my back issues . . . the heat is warmer than stock but not too hot. :)

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52849806092_67ae5f9a9e_o.png

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52850773820_283bbfd497_o.png

The six highlighted values are the temperature in Celsius, first 3 values are for the driver seat, and the second set of 3 values are for the passenger seat. driver seat low, medium, and high. Passenger seat low medium and high.

These values do not appear as Celsius numbers because they are hexadecimal format. In the picture the values are 26 (36C), 29 (41C), and 2D (46C).

I changed the values to 42, 46, and 50 degrees, converted them to hexadecimal, which gave me the following values 42C (Hex 2A), 46C (Hex 2E) and 50C (Hex 32). I then took those values and entered them in sequence (first three for the driver's side 2A/2E/32 and then for the passenger's side 2A/2E/32 so the entry should look like this: 2A2E322A2E32 where the values are highlighted in the second pic above.

Once I did that I clicked "Write EEPROM" and it wrote those values into the car. That is it and the temps are now changed. :)

For the actual DIY the link is below:

For some reason This is the spec I really love in the E46 sedan.... Mystic Blue/Alcantara interior but you don't get lumbar support, let alone adding upper side bolster adjustment, with Alcantara seats. When Shawn offered his unique interior for sale I knew I had to have them. Luckily I happened to be looking at my IG account when I saw them posted for sale... as many of you know, timing is everything. I'm just glad to have these unique front seats installed in my ZHP. Having lumbar support is everything for me with my back issues and with the added upper side bolster adjustment only makes having these seats all the more unique in my ZHP build :drevil

There will be much more in store in the upcoming months for blauzed as this car season progresses....(SGT CSL bootlid for sedan, AutoSolutions SSK, carbon fiber seat backs, and Wilwood BBK)...
