It's nice to have friends who own their own garage where there are several lifts, a full fledged paint booth with integrated HVAC system and all the tools you need to get work completed on your car[emoji41]
I was offered use of one of his lifts so I could easily replace my tie rod assemblies on my ZHP today[emoji41]

now that both the left and right tie bar assemblies have been replaced I just need to get my car a full alignment and I should be good.
Next on my list of things to do will be replacing my power steering hoses (all of them) and getting the Aluminum Turner power steering reservoir to complete refreshing that system on my car[emoji41]

I also got the EGR valve in my SAP system replaced this afternoon and it was choked up in carbon deposits as the pictures below show. I removed the old part and proceeded to clean out the area using full strength Simple Green where the EGR valve mounts to the engine block so the new gasket will seat in properly when installing the new part.

Jacob, I think that would be the best way to keep the lip looking pristine. Since you store your ZHP during winter months the lip will look amazing for years to come. For a daily driver that will see winter usage in New England I feel the ABS plastic version would be much more suited which is why I'm going that route for my ZHP.

I got all my TPMS sensors set up right. A few of the Schrader valves were loose in the valve stems on my BBS CH wheels and needed to be tightened up so air would not leak past them.
After rechecking all my valve stems and tightening up the Schrader valves in them, I reset my tire pressures and called up my TPMS software. I'm loving this upgrade[emoji57]

Been working hard getting my ZHP ready for my upcoming summer road trip to Florida in July so yeah been doing a lot of work getting her ready[emoji41]
It has been more work than what I initially had planned for but I'm getting this car set up just the way I want her to be set up so once done, all the neglect given to this poor car will have been erased and my ZHP will be a high
mileage sorted out, well optioned ride[emoji41]
I just need to be careful while driving on unfamiliar roads and watch out for people who are behind me so I don't get rammed.
I had a very good friend who recently lost a brand new fully optioned Dodge Ram because of some stupid driver ramming his vehicle into his truck. The idiot did not even slow down which makes me wonder why he was driving in the first place . . .
Seeing the damage inflicted to my friend's truck was a reminder for me not to become too complacent while on my road trip and to be very careful.

This! I have been living in Charlotte area for 1.5 years. The amout of crazy, stupid and negligence thigs I see on the daily basis is bunkers! The dangerous and big crashes that I saw is countless. I am amazed because I haven't see anything like this in New England. Also, my safety bar for roads and drivers is pretty low because I grew up in Russia. Which is arguably the capital if dangerous drivers and amout of death per capita.
Unfortunately, most of the South East region is not a safe place to drive.

California isn't all that much better, if at all. Never been to the eastern states but here no one signals when changing lanes, everyone camps out in the left lane. Also, get this - there are barely any 'normal' left turns at intersections, they're all protected and you have to sit there stupidly waiting for the green arrow, even when the intersection is completely empty. It gets worse - people just don't know how to deal with the rare yield-to-turn-left intersection when it is there. I've seen a car turn left into the path of someone else going straight through, they obviously had to brake to avoid a collision. To be honest, I caught myself almost doing the same thing - my brain was so conditioned to every left turn being protected, and I almost started the turn in front of someone but quickly caught myself and braked before I got in their path.
Ah well. I'm just glad that with the mileage my car has I won't get screwed over by insurance. I'm on Hagerty with an agreed-value policy, at about the amount I have into the car. I'd obviously rather not have any accident but at least if it does happen, I'm fully covered

People in Charlotte area driving 30+ speed limit, including pickup trucks towing bunch of crap. Then, they also changing lines like no tomorrow.
I just cannot get wrap my head around it. Why the driving is so aggressive, where people are nice most of the times.
I am not worried about the value of my car. I am worried about myself.
I just spent 7 days in Spain one month ago. I never felt myself in danger of being smashed by giant pick truck or box truck.
The driving culture is just so much nicer.

Be careful if you're driving in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I have seen some crazy aggressive driving there as well as spectacular car wrecks. It is a good opportunity to remove my Gruppe M intake and do a good cleaning of the enclosure and air filter before lighty retreating the filter before reinstalling it. I can then resume installing wheel studs and roll my rear fenders over this weekend.

My Gruppe M intake is lightly oiled so that probably has some part in having to replace my MAF sensor. I have been getting Mixture Preparation Bank 1 and 2 (2882/2883) faults
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230618/2a4793568e0abf15f0183029de0efd68.jpg
which could be caused by a bad intake boot (I just replaced mine with brand new OEM BMW ones, a bad DISA o-ring, or a failing MAF sensor. I also read a post from someone at E46 Fanatics where they replaced their fuel filter and that solved their mixture preparation issue.
A more expensive issue could be my O2 sensors might need replacement.
Digging deeper I found a great writeup and in that writeup it was recommended to replace the fuel filter around 60k miles of usage because it has an integrated fuel regulator, which over time, could also cause the mixture preparation faults so I plan to schedule a fuel filter replacement by the first. This is one component in my fuel system I haven't replaced since rescuing my ZHP and most likely requires replacement.
EDIT: I replaced the MAF sensor, took off my Gruppe M intake and cleaned/reconditioned the filter and housing assembly as well as applied sealant and ceramic-based wax to the carbon fiber enclosure. Intake boots have been checked and they are securely installed to the throttle body.
2nd EDIT: It's been two weeks since I have replaced my MAF sensor. The Mixture Preparation Bank 1 & 2 errors have not returned. The new MAF sensor replacement has corrected my error. :thumbsup

All the work I have been putting into my ZHP since October of last year to now have been about getting my BMW ready for it's long-distance road trip to Florida and back a few weeks from now. In all that time I have done the following work:
- complete cooling system overhaul (all associated OEM hoses and hard pipes for the cooling system, radiator, expansion tank, Stewart water pump, OEM thermostat and sensors)
- engine coolant sensor replacement
- oil temperature sensor replacement
- oil pressure sensor replacement
- coolant level sensor replacement
- coolant temperature sensor replacement
- external ambient temperature sensor replacement
- external ambient temperature plug and associated wiring repaired/replaced
- complete SAP system overhaul
- intake system overhaul
- reconditioning my fuel injectors
- new MAF sensors
- new OEM BMW intake boots (upper and lower)
- new Bilstein PSS-10 coilovers and Ground Control Camber kit
- fresh fluids (cooling, engine, transmission, rear diff, and brake)
- installed a G.A.S. CCV replacement kit
- new o-rings (fuel injectors, and oil dip stick)
- new vaccum lines
- A/C pulley replacement
- G.A.S. DISA rebuild kit
- G.A.S. coolant 1.2 bar cap
- Aluminum light weight water pump pulley
- aluminum water pump end cap
- VANOS oil feed line and banjo bolts replaced
- all gaskets replaced (oil filter housing, valve cover, throttle body, DISA, intake manifold)
- inlet fuel hose replaced
- GUIBO and center line bearing replaced
- e-brake handle replaced
- spark plugs and ignition coils replaced
- front tie rod assemblies (inner and outer & left and right) replaced
- replaced tie rod boots (left and right)
- BBS CH wheels balanced and Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires (235/35 19F / 255/30 19R) and integrated internal TPMS sensors
- titanium wheel stud retrofit w/ open ended lug nuts
- CDV delete
- Garmin dash cam install
- OEM M3 front strut bar installed
as you can see . . . this is a good list of what work has been done in the past 8 months to my ZHP. Here is a list of work I would like to complete in the 2023 car season before winter:
- install OEM M3 side mirrors (IN PROGRESS)
- install AutoSolutions SSK
- install my UUC Corsa TSE3 exhaust
- install upgraded rear subwoofers
- new Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 front tires for my spare front Style 135 wheels
- install my rear Wilwood BBKs
- flush my brake fluid
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230628/cc81bf32992ec0dbf0fa80c85e5a5678.jpg
If I can get the above items completed then I will be satisfied with the work I have put into my ZHP in the past year. :cool

Dash cam ordered this morning . . . [emoji57]
I decided to integrate one into my ZHP after all the work I have put into her[emoji41]
I also ordered a replacement driver's airbag wiring harness to replace the one on my steering wheel. I am currently getting an SRS fault; Stage 1 and 2 resistance too high. From my research replacing this wiring harness corrects this fault so since it isn't too expensive to source I went ahead and ordered one to replace and see if this clears my fault. If so, then I will be ordering another one to replace in my M3 as well.
This week I will be reinstalling my OEM M3 front strut bar and finishing my OEM M3 side mirror base plate modifications so I can begin painting the baseplates black and mirror housings Mystic Blue and then 2k clear coat them so I can complete this much anticipated retrofit to my ride and get this retrofit checked off my list of things I want to do. :cool
EDIT: The SRS Fault is caused by a clock spring that needs replacement. I will be sourcing this part after I return from my upcoming long-distance road trip.

I got the Garmin Mini 2 dash cam because of it's small size. I can put it by my rear view mirror and because of it's small size it is much more discreet and I will most likely not be asked to take it off when going on a military base.
It records 1080p and voice and covers the front 140 degrees of the car. It has parking monitoring if plugged into a constant voltage source and also has voice control.
Plenty of features for me[emoji4]
on another note I reinstalled my OEM M3 strut bar. This is something I wanted to do after installing my coilovers so it's done[emoji4]

Today I made progress on my OEM M3 side mirror retrofit. A fellow enthusiast friend of mine has his own workshop with every tool imaginable with over 6 hydraulic lifts and numerous Porsches in various stages of development in his many projects. In his workshop he has built an industrial paint booth where he can also paint an entire car in and offered it to me for when I am ready to paint my side mirrors :)
Today while mulling over doing the necessary modifications to my mirror baseplates it occurred to me to ask if I could use some of his tools at his workshop to finish trimming my baseplates and he said yes so I came over with my baseplates and he helped me trim off the posts on the back of the baseplates and I did the rest trimming off the edges for sedan fitment.
Now that this has been done, the hardest part of the retrofit is complete. I now have to paint the baseplates and mirror housing so this will be done over the course of the following week and once my 2k clear arrives I can complete the painting of my side mirrors and then start the reassembly process.
Seeing I started this awhile ago, it is nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel regarding this retrofit which I really want for my ZHP :cool
EDIT: Mirror housings have been prepped for primer and base coat. I am now working on my mirror base plates so they can be ready for primer and base coat paint. By next weekend I will have my mirrors painted so they can both be reassembled and then mounted. :cool

Today, July 4, marks my third anniversary with my ZHP. The day I rescued her. A lot of work have gone into her in those three years and I'm determined to follow thru with the journey I have started. I'm really enjoying my ZHP as my daily now. Stereo sounds amazing, loving my M3 gauge cluster retrofit, Bilstein suspension is a dream, car is so much more reliable since my full cooling system overhaul project. My final maintenance before my annual road trip has been completed this afternoon with the engine oil, rear diff oil and fuel filter being changed out.
The dealer used
- 0W 30 motor oil p/n 83-21-5-A42-D39
- Synthetic GE oil p/n 07-51-2-293-972
- Fuel Filter p/n 13-32-7-512-019
Of the three jobs done replacing the fuel filter was the most expensive. Since I had ZERO maintenance history associated with my ZHP when I purchased it, I felt it would be important to establish a good solid maintenace base line from which I can go forward in this car's care and maintenance.
My primary focus has been fixing what has been broke with this car and getting this car caught up on all critical maintenance upgrading it as I progress along. I still have more I want to do before I can say I am done with the maintenance aspect of restoring this ZHP. Ahead of me I have the following I would like to accomplish:
- Restore the Power Steering system
- replace high pressure hose/line
- replace both low pressure hose/lines
- replace power steering reservoir
- verify power steering pump is good, if not replace with LUK20 power steering pump
- Rod Bearing replacement
- look at replacing timing chain and chain guides/tensioners
- Check cylinder pressure
- replace rear main seal
- replace clutch with a new BMW OEM clutch (keeping engine stock)
- replace engine gaskets
- Overhaul VANOS system
As I have said, I would like to . . . by the look of this I'm thinking I'm heading into engine rebuild . . . I may end up doing this and if I do I may look to put in stronger parts into this motor. We'll see just how deep I end up going down this rabbit hole...
I still have all cosmetics to sort on this car and source an OEM BMW left front fender to replace the rep fender the previous owner used. Cosmetics will be the very last thing I will work on sorting thru once all maintenance has been done with this ZHP. So far in my first three years of ownership I feel I have made decent progress on my car. I have much more I want to get done . . .

Any sanding prior to adding the clear coat?
I did some very light wet sanding using 1500 grit then dried the parts and cleaned them using windshield cleaner, wiped clean so there was no lint before spraying clear. I have slight orange peel on my finish which I will lightly wet sand then compound polish once done. Here's how they turned out after applying clear to them

I got everything done just in time to put everything away as the rain clouds started rolling in to dump more water all over. For now I will leave all parts as they are in my garage so the clear can set and get hard before I try doing anything to these parts. Good thing is I am finished painting these mirrors. Looking forward to reassembly and mounting of these mirrors. :)

I have accomplished a lot so far as detailed in this project thread and still have more I want to do this car season, specifically:
- Install my DINAN carbon fiber engine cover
- Install my Corsa TSE3 catback exhaust
- Install my AutoSolutions SSK
- CDV Delete
- Overhaul my Power Steering system
- Brake fluid flush
- replace front passenger window regulator
I think once all this is done I can finish out the 2023 car season for my ZHP regarding mods and maintenance... then I can begin focusing my attention towards my Audi which is in need to go thru it's maintenance. It never ends when you have multiple cars at your garage ;)

I began working on my driver's door and got my mirror assembly installed this morning before taking a break to cool off, rehydrate and have some lunch before going back outside in 80 degree heat with 80% humidity.
Passenger side should go just as smoothly as installing my driver's side. [emoji41]

Jacob, I'm looking forward to this. I will be heading out late this Friday for my first stop in Fredericksburg, VA where I will be spending the weekend with my best friend catching up. Then I will have to see if I can make it to the Charlotte, NC area and meet up with Sergy. That is if I have time. There are a few people who I would love to meet up with but it all depends on how my ZHP is running. This will be a big test for the car after all the maintenance I have done to her.
My M3 side mirror retrofit is now complete. I have finished mounting the passenger side and I'm cooling off and rehydrating. It really sucks working outside in 87% humidity with temps above 80. I have had lots of rain up here lately and a very small window in which to get this retrofit complete.

John, you can use Chemical Guys Heavy Metal Polish and a wire brush to get the caked on carbon off. The brand I used is similar but I don't remember what it is right now. Anywway, I will be using a Dremel with polishing tool next to polish the inner beveled edges using Mother's mag & aluminum polish to bring out the shine.
A lot of elbow grease was used to get the carbon deposit off and I had to use light pressure so not to put deep scratches in the tail pipe. This way I can polish out the light scratches for a perfect shine.

My upcoming trip to Florida is coming very soon and I will be heading down over this upcoming weekend with my ZHP. I am looking forward to this cruise and have done a lot to the car since the last time I took it to Florida with me. As always with my long-distance road trips I try to meet up with good friends along the way so that I can catch up with them. It makes for a more rewarding and memorable trip that way. Hopefully I get the opportunity to meet up with people I see here but if not that's okay as well.
I plan to stop at Fredericksburg, VA for my first leg down to visit with friends then on either Sunday or Monday will be stopping in the Charlotte, NC area to catch up with Sergy. This will give me the chance to check on my car and make sure all is going well for the trip. I tend to check the car more frequently when driving out of town.
I am looking forward to seeing friends and will be spending a few days in the Jacksonville/Palm Coast area of Florida for this trip. On the way back I will be stopping over to Charlestown, SC to visit Rob and catch up with him and his sons. Been too long since I have seen them so it will be nice to take a break from driving to spend some time with them. Then off to Baltimore to spend a day or two with Brett before driving home to complete my trip. Anyway that's the plan for my upcoming travel.
I met Rob, Kristen and their sons back in 2015 when we swapped exhausts (his corsa for my stock) at their house. I think they were 5 or so back then? They must be teenagers now!
Enjoy your trip and safe travels!

I purchased Rob's LSD and he helped me install it on my first ZHP in his garage. That is how Rob is. Since I will be driving relatively close by this time around I really wanted to catch up with Rob and see how his kids have grown. Too bad I am not closer to everyone down south . . .
Enjoy your trip and safe travels!
Thanks san! I will be driving in 'chill mode' when I take my ZHP down. :) Really looking forward to catching up with Sergy in the Charlotte, NC area.

I'm still alive and still have the ZHP but it mostly sits in the garage. The kids will be 10 August third.
I haven't been on here in years but Charlie and I keep in touch on a regular basis. I spend a lot of time on the North American BMW Diesel Owners group on Facebook as I still have the E70 diesel as my daily and that's a bitch to keep up with.
I hope all the Mafia OGs from the old days are doing well and healthy!

This is a nice piece John but before I mount it this upcoming weekend I intend to polish and ceramic wax this item first. I also have a brand new carbon fiber engine cover to install on my M3 so it will be a BMW weekend for me ;)
I finished my annual long-distance road trip for the year. This year I made the long haul down to Palm Coast, Florida to visit my brother and best friend who also lives close by. In my trip down I got to spend some time with an old Navy friend who lives in Fredericksburg, VA then went to Sergy's home in Charlotte, NC to catch up before heading to Florida. On my way back I detoured to Charlestown, SC to visit Rob and pick up my DINAN carbon fiber engine cover from him (shown above) then went off to Brett's for the overnight.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53085901703_a40385435a_h.jpg
Before leaving for home Brett and I had lunch at a local restaurant (Pirate's Cove) then I took this picture before heading out. The return trip was more driver-intensive since I had to put in longer legs to get home but it was well worth the trip.
When I was at Rob's I got to ride in his Diesel X5 and man was this a beast of a ride! The car has a tune for both the motor and transmission and over 600 ft/lbs of torque. It was a blast to ride in and I was blown away by just how fast the transmission shifted within the torque band of this ride! Totally amazing work by Rob for sure! Then we took out his boosted ZHP and he pulled over to give me the privilege of driving his ZHP and man was this a blast to drive. The acceleration was so damned addicting and the car felt so planted with the suspension Rob had on the car. Needless to say it was quality time spent and I really enjoyed chatting and catching up with an old friend before heading up north to Brett.
As always I have a great time catching up with Brett and I always look forward to spending time with him. Every time I make a long distance road trip south along the Eastern seaboard I always stop over to Brett for a visit and catch up. Well, I'm off to get some sleep before I have to go back to work. I'm already looking forward to next car season when I get to drive my Porsche on a long distance road trip... at least that is the plan for now. Who knows what will happen but we'll see . . . :cool

I'm putting on front E46 M3 sway bar (getting this part free from a good friend of mine) and rear 330 CiC sway bars (sourced from eBay for $47).
Sothe M3 front sway bar is 26.5mm andthe tear CiC 330 sway bar is 20mm.
I understand that the stock ZHP sway bars are 23.5mm front and 18mm rear so I'm thinking that adding these sway bars with fresh bushings and end links should improve handling of my ride [emoji41]

I got lucky with my old car, I found a set with only 44k miles from someone who put headers on for ~$240 and put these in as I knew this would be an issue soon-ish at 200k+ miles.
Of course that was in 2014, and such low-mileage cars are probably much more rare nowadays, but maybe an avenue to explore to avoid paying the premium for new.

Alex, if I could source OEM headers from someone who put on aftermarket headers and they had lower mileage then that would be great. I have time so I will see what options I have available to me but either way they will either be OEM or OEM equivalent headers since I will have the Corsa TSE3 exhaust on this car.

I purchased a new lip spoiler for my ZHP this afternoon :)
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52892684211_f6ba972521_h.jpg
This time around I chose ABS plastic rather than carbon fiber because of how rough New England winters are for the daily driver... At least this way if my lip get's destroyed by ice over the winter I can easily replace it for another ABS plastic lip down the road...

How did you attach the lip?
John, this is an example of the actual lip spoiler I just purchased today. How it will look once installed on my ZHP. There will be a few self threading screws to attach under and 3m double-sided tape. If there are any gaps, I will apply black silicone to seal the edges to prevent any tiny pebbles from being trapped in-between.

My Power Steering hose sprung a leak on the low pressure side, not sure which one so I replaced all the low pressure side hoses:
- 32 41 6 750 155.....Intake Manifold hose
- 32 41 6 796 390.....Radiator Return hose
- 32 41 6 796 367.....Return Pipe hose
next on my list is to replace the high pressure power steering hose
- 32 41 6 774 215.....Pressure Hose Assembly
I'm thinking of replacing the power steering pump with a new LUK LF-20 power steering pump to completely refresh the system.

I prefer to keep everything as close to OEM where my interior headliner and pillars are concerned. :)
The c-pillars I recently installed aren't in perfect condition but are much better than the c-pillars that were on my ZHP when I rescued it. I will be sourcing a brand new right rear c-pillar (already have a new never used left rear c-pillar on hand) then once my headliner has been refinished I will be installing my new c-pillars with the refinished headliners.

I really wanted to go for something a little higher pitched and Athletic sounding vs the deeper Corsa but it’s growing on me. The cold start sounds a lot like the modern Bimmers to me

The Corsa TSE3 really has grown on me. It feels a bit childish with it's deep tone and off-throttle burble that sometimes happens, but I really love it. I don't think I'd pay full price for it given the lack of much actual performance benefit, but I got mine off a donor car for cheap and it puts a fat smile on my face every time I drive. The other exhaust I would consider is probably the Borla catback exhaust (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVQ0lKMzif4&t=19s)
Here's a cold start of mine:

I had a friend of mine help record my exhaust. To me this is the best sounding exhaust for the ZHP but it is subjective. I prefer the growl and burble when coasting in the parking lot. It just sounds right to me. :thumbsup

This was just parking lot sound so no WOT clips but the sound was perfect. Not too obnoxious and not too loud. When going to the dealer yesterday I could hear the burble as I let off the gas to pull into the service area and when I pulled my car in people working there turned their heads to look at my car so the exhaust sound is very noticeable.
The growl I can hear comes from my Gruppe M intake so I feel that the combination of having my Gruppe M intake and Corsa TSE3 catback exhaust is the perfect blend of performance parts on this car. I have been told with performance headers, this exhaust will be entirely too loud and that is not what I am looking for so OEM headers it is for this car.

Yes, I had the Arqray lip spoiler on my last ZHP. Unfortunately the New England winter destroyed it. Shame this lip spoiler is no longer available and the Garbino lip is hard to source . . . if you go with the Garbino lip be prepared to shell out close to $1,100 after shipping to obtain it. Not many are willing to put out the coin to source a Garbino lip spoiler at that price just to have a lip spoiler.
Regarding the Arqray lip spoiler, Vivid Racing sells a duraflex version that is very close to the design of the original Arqray lip. For those still looking for one this is worth taking a closer look at, here's the link:

I'm surprise you didn't do the sprint booster button there again. :) Everything looks really good though! I probably would just spray the buttons panel with a new layer of LVP OE Colors for Leather, Vinyl & Plastic Spray Paint Coating

Tony, for me that was a one-off thing. It was very difficult to do back when I did this retrofit and now as I have aged doing this retrofit will be a lot more difficult and would be something I would rather not do at this point in my life. With the Gen3 Sprint Booster I don't think the Sport Button retrofit will work, it has too many features for it to function using only the Sport Button. You will need an earlier version of Sprint Booster to do this retrofit for those who want to attempt this.
As for me, I'm perfectly happy with the placement of my Gen3 Sprint Booster module. :thumbsup
Everything looks really good though!
Thanks! Keeping everything clean inside.

An authentic Garbino front carbon fiber lip has been ordered and will get sent to me in 10 weeks from Garbino/Japan for my ZHP and will look somewhat like this when mounted on my Mystic Blue MTEC II front bumper[emoji57]
It was an unexpected surprise from a friend[emoji4]
Once ordered Garbino will make the item which takes 10 to 14 week lead time before they can ship the item to you.

It was a complete surprise as my co-worker used his contacts back in Japan where he served in the Navy to make all this happen for me. We were discussing things that I wanted to continue doing for my ZHP and the Garbino lip came up and I told him ever since I saw this lip installed on Stuart's wagon I have wanted this lip. It has been a very long time now and next thing I knew the Garbino lip was ordered and paid for so it is now being made by Garbino and won't ship out until sometime in late May-early June time frame. Hopefully in time for my birthday in June. It will make for an awesome birthday present :)
I'm also working to acquire a used set of Genuine OEM BMW 330i headers with only 5k miles from a friend who is in the process of packing them for shipping to me. My cats got called out as being bad and replacing all four O2 sensors did not fix the error code so it is time to swap in new headers when they arrive to correct this deficiency. Later this Spring I plan to remove my peeling headliner and clear everything from it and then once it is completely cleaned out I will begin the process of restoring the headliner then restore the sunroof panel before reinstalling everything. I have begun to source the individual covers/panels that attaches to the headliner so when I have everything restored the overhead will look completely fresh. :cool
- my M3 is getting new catless headers and I will also be installing a euro section 1, an AutoSolutions ssk I got from Hieu, and new GUIBO/Center Line Bearing
- my Audi will be getting brand new carbon fiber engine covers, carbon fiber rain guard panel and new blue carbon fiber interior trim pieces
- my Porsche will have new aluminum CSF performance radiators installed (X3) with new radiator hoses for each front radiator.
Most of this was not planned when I began installing my Corsa TSE3 exhaust and AutoSolutions ssk and I'm just going with the flow so to speak but it has been an interesting start to my 2024 car season ;)

This weekend I might have found a solution to my window tint issue since having permanent aftermarket window tint is "against the law" in my state. I found a product that is a film you can attach and also remove. It is attached using static and stays on.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53606779329_062f4a5089_b.jpg
I have ordered the front/rear side windows and rear window tint film in 35% shade and should be receiving them sometime next week. Looking forward to seeing how this works out on my daily driver. If it works out then I will be getting this for all cars in my collection.

I just purchased a Stage 1 tune for my ZHP this morning which from what I have researched is a much better tune than the Shark tune I had on my Imola ZHP. I am looking forward to getting this set up on my current ZHP as it has many more adjustments to set my car up the way I really want it. Looking forward to running this tune on my car this car season :cool

The reason I went with the Chaos Calibrations tune over the Shark Injector tune I used on my first ZHP:
1. It is an E-Tune. This basically means it is over a Windows compatible computer using their software, a K+DCAN Cable (INPA Cable), and your original DME. This helps eliminate any problem you may have if you use a different DME, like problems starting.
2. Flexibility. If you want to put your original tune back on, it only takes about 5 minutes and you are back rolling. Chaos Calibrations can add custom settings to their tune and send it to you via email, which makes it much easier to flash a new tune to your DME.
3. Support. Chaos is only an email away if you need any help or want to change something. With Shark Injector you have only their "canned tune", nothing more from my experience. Chaos Calibrations also has PDFs with step-by-step instructions on how to do upload/download their tune and other things along with their software.
4. Performance. You have a more customized tune that is more tailored to what you have selected when you ordered, with the Shark Injector, you get one tune and you can not change it, meaning customize any portion of their tune at all, only thing you can do with Shark Injector is to restore your original DME tune.

Peter, I like that they will tune your ECU then if you are still not satisfied, you can work things out with them to better tweak the tune to better match what you are running with. They also have data logging feature which is so much better than the Shark Injector tune I ran on my last ZHP.

Yesterday I purchased JP's Gruppe M intake because the one I currently have installed in my engine bay is not complete. What makes this acquisition nicer is that the intake has little use since it's install and that it will be the complete kit when I take delivery after it arrives. Between my first ZHP and this one, it will be the first time I have gotten a practically brand new Gruppe M to install so I am looking forward to replacing my highly used and incomplete Gruppe M with a newer complete part :cool

While installing my Corsa TSE3 exhaust I opted to replace all my O2 sensors to see if doing so would clear my Cat-Converter Bank 2 (273D), Mixture Preparation Bank 1 (2882) and Mixture Preparation Bank 2 (2883) faults. I ran with the new exhaust for a week and the Cat-Converter Bank 2 (273D) fault reappeared. Seems I will need to source new headers to clear this fault. Pricing new OEM headers is crazy . . .

My tune from Chaos Calibrations came in for my ZHP but unfortunately it is raining and weather isn't going to be ideal so I will be updating the tune this Friday when weather can support. I'm not feeling like moving my M3 out in the rain just so I can update this tune into my car. Not right now . . . but it will happen soon. :cool
EDIT: I installed my Chaos Calibrations Stage 1 tune this afternoon (5APR) using their tuning software and the install process was relatively pain free. I used a friend's battery charger so that I would have consistent voltage in my car's system and not experience any glitches. I have more things to do to prepare my ZHP for it's upcoming road trip to Syracuse, NY. [emoji57]
..............................This sums what I have for my Stage 1 tune:
..............................https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53634568124_3640e28134_b.jpg..........https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53634467223_a7c32d1177_o.png
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53633363327_902cd9f6d2_b.jpg
EDIT 2: 10APR24 - I finally took my ZHP out for a road test after doing some needed maintenance to see how good this Stage 1 tune was and I was impressed. Compared to the Shark Injector tune I had in my last ZHP, the tune from Chaos Calibrations was immediately noticed. My car feels so much more responsive and faster. It pulls harder thru the gears and is much more fun to drive. I did not go with the popping and banging feature because I have my Corsa TSE3 exhaust and am very happy with how it sounds.
I can now say that with my Gruppe M CAI and my Corsa exhaust, same setup I had on my previous ZHP, the Chaos Calibrations Stage 1 tune is much better than the Shark Injector tune. I'm glad I went with these guys :cool

I got a lot done for my ZHP this year so far. Started 2024 off with the following:
- Rennline Cell iPhone charger magnetic mount
- AutoSolutions Gen2 SSK w/ DSSR
- UUC Corsa TSE3 Exhaust
- MS 45.1 ECU Stage 1 tune from Chaos Calibrations
- Turner triple baffled aluminum power steering reservoir
- Rogue Engineering short throw clutch pedal
- deleted Clutch Delay Valve
- replaced all O2 sensors
- replaced rear passenger window regulator
- replaced coolant expansion tank
- replaced high pressure power steering hose
- replaced both cam position sensors
Soon I will take delivery of my Garbino carbon fiber lip spoiler and will have this mounted on my MTECH II front bumper. This should add a very nice touch to the look of my ZHP after it has been mounted. This is a hard to source, and expensive, part but is of very high quality and I am looking forward to adding this rare part to my car. I had an awful month last month and have been recovering day by day since then. I haven't been able to do a lot which is why I am now using either an indy shop or dealer to get the bulk of work I have been doing for my cars to get them set up this year for their big road trip. A lot has changed for me and this is why you all have been seeing lots of traffic on my mod/maintenance front.
In all this I have sold my Audi to free up time and resources so I can concentrate on my Porsche and M3. My M3 is in the shop now getting all of its maintenance performed then in July the Porsche will go in for much needed upgrades/maintenance then all three cars will be ready for their drive south. My ZHP is ready to go right now . . .
There will be lots of changes coming up here at my end as I pull out of Rhode Island on a much more permanent basis and move south. This is why there is so much going on right now . . . all of which has been unplanned but more a result of a life-changing event I have recently gone thru.

To be completely honest Jacob, I was not expecting this when it happened. My co-worker was stationed in Japan (Yokohama area) for the last 11 years before retiring from the Navy. When he retired, he got a job with my company and I ended up becoming his supervisor. We became good friends and he did this on his own accord. He contacted his Navy friends in Japan and made the acquisition happen without my knowing anything about this until after the item had shipped out from Garbino. Only then when it was on its way did he let me know. I was not expecting this but really appreciated him reaching out to his friends to make this all work out for me.
It goes to show that there is a "brotherhood" with military personnel, even if you never served with them. I am grateful for all who were responsible for making this happen for me. I too can't wait to have this lip installed on my ZHP which will most likely happen over this upcoming weekend :) There will be pics taken of the Garbino lip before mounting it and then once after it has been securely mounted to my MTEC II front bumper. :cool

I replaced one of my Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tires (right rear) because I picked up a nail and it could not be plugged. The tire replacement happened at the time I had put on my "winter set" of Style 135 wheels so I knew before mounting my BBS CH wheels for summer I would need a new tire to put on the other rear wheel so that way I have fresh tires on the rear set. With this in mind, I ordered a new Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tire to be delivered to my tire shop so all I have to do is show up with my wheel and have them mount and balance the new tire to the wheel. I can then mount my BBS wheels for summer use on for my ZHP :)

For my ZHP, I have ordered replacement ZKW headlight lenses, a replacement alarm sensor cover, and a Titan Shadow lower steering wheel trim. With a new Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 tire on order for my rear passenger BBS wheel, this will complete my work for the 2024 car season for my ZHP. Looking at this project thread, you can see I have done a lot of work for this amazing daily driver.
I had the pleasure of having one of the OGs from this forum drive my ZHP yesterday and he was amazed how my car felt cruising on the highway at 70. With the Bilstein PSS-10 coilovers and Ground Control camber kit installed the car felt very planted while cornering. The Chaos Calibrations Stage 1 tune also contributed to the fun of driving this car and lastly, the AutoSolutions SSK installed was a hit with my friend who had the UUC EVO 3 SSK in his ZHP. He ended up pulling the EVO3 SSK from his car because it was too harsh for his style of driving but he did like the AutoSolutions SSK much better. I found his reactions reassuring that what I have done to my ZHP has been done perfectly :)

I always test fit all the lip spoilers I attach to my car before peeling the other side of the double back tape to adhere the lip to the bumper. It is a good thing too because the MTec II front bumper on my ZHP is damaged and out of shape to a point I can not mount my Garbino lip to it.
Current course of action is to repack my Garbino lip in the package it came with and put it away until I source a brand new primed OEM MTec II front bumper, have it repainted Mystic Blue then mount the Garbino lip to the freshly painted bumper before mounting it to my ZHP.
Unfortunately this won't happen until after I have moved and settled into my new home someplace in Florida so looking like this will begin my 2025 car season project instead[emoji4]
At least it is something I can research, getting all brand new OEM mounts and screws to secure my new bumper with and building up a list of more new parts to source and install on my daily driver[emoji57]

Bummer, sorry to hear the lip spoiler is going to the back burner.
Not really fredo, I rescued this poor ZHP from neglectful owners and have been pouring money, time and work to restore this car to where it should rightfully be. This car has had a very colorful history which includes an accident to the driver's front part of the car which explains why the center of the front bumper is bowed in and not straight. The bumper's paint has also been cracked indicating that when this car had it's accident, the bumper was pushed in deforming it which is why my Garbino lip won't fit on the bumper.
All part of what I have spent the last 4 years doing to this car. I wanted a project car and Brett delivered. When I get settled in Florida this year, I will source a brand new primered Genuine OEM BMW MTEC II front bumper and all the new mounts and screws needed to secure this bumper including a brand new center grill then get the bumper painted Mystic Blue, install all the new parts and then pull the old bumper off and install the new bumper with the Garbino Lip installed on it.
Yes it will cost me just over a $1000 to get this sorted but in the end I will have sorted this part of the car. I'm okay with this. This car deserves an owner who won't "cheap out" on it and get the right parts, that's how I am looking at this :)

All I need to do now is finish rolling my rear fenders some more then mount my BBS CH wheels and my ZHP will be completed for this 2024 car season and I can simply enjoy this ride :)
It's nice having my "refreshed" steering wheel back on my ZHP. The M3's Alcantara steering wheel needs serious cleaning as well so that's what I will be doing next :)

No tutorial used. I just used some common sense and applied the alcantara cleaner to the soiled alcantara to allow it to soak in then after a few minutes applied the steamer (steam only) to the wheel where I treated it with the Sonax cleaner and allowed the steam to completely saturate the wheel before getting clean microfiber cloths to soak up the fluid off the wheel. I did two passes, first one using the cleaner then the second one using only steam. Lots of microfiber cloths were used to ensure the wheel was cleaned. I go thru this every car season . . . just a little late swapping steering wheel this season due to a medical issue I had experienced back in May.
This process is really not hard to do.

Thanks Jacob, yeah it kinda sucks that the previous owner did a shitty job taking care of my ZHP but then I am here to sort out all the issues this poor car has been subjected to. In the end it will be highly rewarding to keep this awesome car on the road to be enjoyed for many more years to come. The Garbino lip will look right when mated to a Genuine OEM BMW MTEC II front bumper after it has been painted Mystic Blue. Car will also be getting brand new Morimoto E46/E39 LED fog lights to go with the new bumper, fittings and new grill. :cool

I began this morning, what is the first of three trips to Florida I will be taking. For the most part the first part of trip had an issue and I ended up pulling over by Tyson's Corner in Virginia because my oil filler cap came off and I had an oily mess in my engine bay plus lots of smoke from the oil burning on my exhaust manifold. Fortunately Stuart was able to provide emergency road service and came down with his E34 oil cap for me to use temporarily until I sourced an E46 oil filler cap which I was able to while in Fredericksburg where I am spending this weekend with friends.
During my stay, I plan to wash off my engine bay and clean off the oil that got all over and have a clean ZHP before resuming my trip to Florida.
I'm guessing this mishap cost me a quart of oil and thankfully my motor was not harmed from this mishap. Guess I needed some excitement for this trip but what I really appreciate is having one of our own come to the rescue by pulling a part from one of his cars just to help me out. I have made some really good quality friends like Stuart and Brett and this is why I still post on this forum frequently.
This is the part I somehow managed to lose somewhere on my way down somewhere in Delaware
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/9f2aa5ae299213214cc30cd0c8f32913.jpg
and this is the part currently preventing any more oil from leaving my motor[emoji4]

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/9e35467707f0cc574f2a884998931365.jpg
It is confirmed that you, in a crunch, can use an E34 oil filler cap on your E46 ZHP motor and not have any issue[emoji1417]

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240727/9542e485e07d0a9334efcae52806a61e.jpg
this part was sourced from AutoZone by my friend in Fredericksburg which will replace Stuart's oil filler cap so I can clean his cap and have it shipped back to him during the week[emoji41]
I did check the parts department at the local BMW dealers in the vacuity of Tyson’s Corner, VA and none had an E46 oil filler cap in stock. Considering our cars are over 20 years old now, it shouldn’t be a surprise.
Stuart is awesome!!!
I will have this oil filler cap on my ZHP until my new ///M oil filler caps arrive at my brother’s home this Thursday. When they arrive, I will place the new one on my engine cover and keep the autozone sourced one as my spare in case anyone local to me experiences a similar issue.
