Hi All,

I thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. After owning a 2002 325i for a while now, I decided to upgrade to a ZHP. I want a car that I can drive, work on, and enjoy. My goal was to find a reasonably priced ZHP without too many miles, but wasn't looking for a perfect car. After months of searching online (I live in Montana, so there are no local ZHP's), I found it.

2004 ZHP, ZCW, Jet Black 6MT 135k miles. Black Cube on Beige leather interior. I normally don't like the beige, but it provides some nice contrast to the black and looks very nice.

I plan to do an extensive overhaul of the usual items including suspension, cooling, usual engine items, fluids etc. There will undoubtedly be some cosmetic issues (sagging headliner and pillars) as well, but I can handle those in time.

The picture is my first time seeing the car off the transport truck. Notice the flat tire and my other E46 in the background. It turns out that the almost new tire has a torn bead, so I have to buy a new one which is a bummer. I'll post more pics as I start moving through the car. Initial driving impressions are good, though it clearly needs the suspension work that my 325 has had. That car is much tighter in general. Overall, however, it seems to run great with no codes and all accessories working properly.

Looking forward to the journey!

Welcome! I love the way those ambers look against black E46s.

Welcome. Are you planning on keeping both or selling the 325?

Me too. I originally thought I'd want clears, but the contrast looks really nice.

Thanks All. The 325 is going up for sale soon. It's bittersweet because it's a great car, and it's been in my family since new and passed along between several of us. My brother put about $6,000 in parts into it (doing all the work himself) over the last few years, so it's a super solid car, and the interior is in great condition. He sold it to me after getting his own ZHP, and I caught the bug lol.

Nice move from 325 to a zhp! More power and sounds better at least. Was your 325i sport?

The inline 6 sound was what hooked me on the 325i, and this is all the better! The 325i is a sport package with black leatherette interior. Manual seats still hardly look like they’ve ever been sat in.

Congrats ! Glad to hear you are a happy camper. I bet your 325i sells fast, the sport package is a nice bonus.

Haven't done much to the car except drive around. The only issue that stands out is a noticeable clunk coming from the rear when I push in the clutch. I haven't researched much, but assume RTAB, CSB, Guibo, or the like. I'll look into it pretty soon, but we're buying a new house, so that process will take precedent for a while.

I'd like to document my progress online. Do folks prefer to start a new thread in the relevant section, or continue this one?

If anyone's interested, here's a thread documenting the restoration process on my 1966 Chevy pickup.

I hope to start my new thread soon. Just sold the 325i. Cash in hand 2 hours after posting on my neighborhood Facebook page to a person who is super excited. Feels good to sell it to someone who really appreciates it.

2 hours?! Man, that must've been priced to sell. Beats out when I bought my car - we made a deal less than 12 hours after it was posted. Granted I was young and dumb, and needed a car so I waaaaay overpaid. I still don't regret it though, it's been an excellent car and is a highly desirable combo that isn't too common

There aren't a ton of these cars here in Montana, and there was a couple a few houses down who had been looking for the exact car. They had both driven E30's in high school and were looking for a BMW. I sold it for $3750, which I thought was decently high, but this car had been enthusiast owned, and it showed. Now that it's sold, I only have $2500 out of pocket to get into the ZHP.

I love it when it's a quick, no-hassle sale. You got a good deal (as a seller) for your 325... with E46 prices still seemingly at the bottom of the depreciation curve, it seems like only the ZHPs and Ms command a premium. But at this point I think the market is starting to shift, and as these cars get older and rarer they will start appreciating, like the E36s.

Also, at least you can still see your former car once in a while, as it's in the neighbourhood!
