View Full Version : TPMS sensors: OE vs Aftermarket

My GF has a 2009 Clubman S and I just put brand new Mini GP wheels/tires on the car yesterday that I had purchased from someone else. Seller stated the setup came with brand new TPMS sensors in them as well. When I went to reset her TPMS light it says “inactive” so Im assuming that her 2009 won’t read the sensors in the wheels because they are probably for a newer model Mini.
Are aftermarket sensors finicky? I don’t want to spend 70-100/per sensor for OE sensors

I replaced the sensors on my wife's 2009 Saab once. Discount Tire took care of that. I believe it was around $200 OTD. No issues found, they work just fine.
That's the only experience I have regarding sensors.

I don't know about MINI, but BMW changed the TPMS frequency sometime in 2014 so earlier ones won't work in later cars, & visa versa (as far as I've heard). You can often find some deals on eBay. Look at:
