So, I drove 5 hours today, round trip, to check this car out. Here are my observations:
- Almost no apparent body rust (only a couple tiny spots in crevices).
- Relatively little rust on the under-carriage (mostly just fastener heads, braces, and some brake lines).
- Fairly clean engine bay with no signs of strut tower damage.
- No readily apparent underbody cracking.
- Small oil leak between transmission and engine.
- Some evidence of water in engine oil.
- Extensive wheel rash (3 8” and 1 8.5”).
- Tires in excellent condition with no uneven wear (1 off-brand tire).
- Seemingly tight suspension.
- Bushings and rubber covers looked in good condition.
- Extensive paintwork has been done of mediocre quality.
- No codes, but most tests were incomplete (reportedly due to recent battery replacement).
- One grille was ready to fall out.
- Headliner behind sunroof was sagging.
- A-pillar covers wrinkled and detaching.
- Interior in very good condition, and everything seems to work.
- Starts easily.
- Shifts nicely, and clutch grabs fine.
- Didn’t drive it much (unregistered), but it seemed to handle and perform fine (smooth, powerful, not pulling).
- Brake rotors were pretty worn, and brakes might need a bit of work.
All in all, a seemingly okay specimen but not quite up to snuff for me to plunk down several grand for it.
