...so now I’m stuck listening to MJ, which is great, except I have other CDs, and the CD I have in there is scratched up.

Do I need a new head unit, or is there a way I can fix this? It didn’t have this issue when I stuck it in, but now the CD doesn’t want to eject and I don’t know why.

I had the same problem about a month ago. I disassembled the radio (a bit of a pain) and found a broken spring-actuated pivot mechanism. It would have required patience, a jeweler's tools, and fine motor control to make the repair, none of which I have. My solution was to go to LKQ and get a replacement from another E46, which was $20. As a bonus, the replacement had Santana's "Supernatural" already loaded. Not my jam, but felt like I got a deal. At least for me, I should have bypassed troubleshooting and headed straight to the junkyard.

Is there not a little pin hole to insert a paperclip on the front of our unit? Or am I remembering cassette tape players?

I suspect the GROM might be causing issues with the eject functionality. I'd just rather avoid removing the head unit in the first place

It takes less than 5 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=61&v=K_JFrYN_tHI
