Random metal strip on rear bumper... any guesses as what it is/what it does?

I noticed my car has a metal "strip" that's attached to the bottom of the rear bumper cover, but I can't find it in realoem.com and have no idea what it is. Does anyone else have this piece or know what its function is?

That's what I was thinking, too. I've never seen it on a friend's ZHP, nor have I seen it on my 330i or m3. I'll probably just take it off then. Thanks for the input fellas.
