View Full Version : RTAB install. Preload changes when lowering?

Wondering what you guy's thoughts were on RTAB's. I'll be installing a fresh set of Z4M Lemforders with AKG limiters. I've done this before on my old E46.

My question is does the amount of preload on the bushing change when the car is lowered? Would it make sense to wait until I lower the car to install the new RTAB's. I've heard people in the past float theories that when a vehicle is lowered it changes the required preload on the bushing.

Personally I don't think it matters, as long as when I install them I keep the preload identical to what it is now.

What do you all think? Thanks

It matters since the relation of the body to the hub changes when lowering the car.

How much it matters? Not sure on that one. Stock preload spec is 8mm above hub center. Maybe increase it a few more mm for a lowered car?

I don’t know the answer, but I do know I did it wrong on two cars :(

I did full suspension on my zhp and that was the only thing I did wrong. And then I did it wrong on my zsp [emoji849]

The amount that it matters is negligible
