You KNOW I want you to do that beautiful c/f strut bar. That's a lot of dough though.
EDIT: Seth, just read your BSW post, good info. Keep it coming. I might just get front mids, instead of front mids and front tweets.
rando - front mid bass or mid drivers? I might consider parting with some of my kit cuz the rears are the same as the fronts

For verts, there are the front midrange/tweeter combo, and then the front midbass. Ideally I'd do both, but economically and based on your input, I could get away with the front midbass. Just looked up on BSW, and sedans don't have that front midrange/tweeter combo. So yeah, front midbass.

Dane,
Didn't intend to jump you, I laid a less than asking price bid on the CF strut bar, he said he'll consider and get back to me. I too have reservations with spending that much but on the vert with the BMW Performance Intake I think it would look gorgeous. Also laid a bid on the Schnitzer bar on e46f, that would go well with the AFE CAI, I think.

Buy the replicas and have the 135s fixed. That way, when the reps crack or break, you have a back-up. Reps do not last...on Cali streets & highways. I was so PO at this broke state when I was on my way up to Moneterey for the Legends of the Autobahn using I-101, I was so sure that the roads bent my BBS on my M3. Fortunately, I just got away with misalignment......

haha, Justin is kinda right. I'm pretty sure the star is the right size, but the grill was custom made to fit the body.
In case you don't know what that car is it used to be 2 cars that got the Frankenstein treatment. One was a 1961 190SL, the other was a 2004 SL600. It was chopped, dropped, lengthened and widened. Also the V12 getting the RENNtech treatment so it now puts down 650bhp, 750lb/ft. All the work was done by a hot rod shop here in SD

- CG Jetseal 109 Paint Sealant
- Sonax wheel cleaner, CG Tire dressing
Couldn't take pictures as I only had 5 hours to do everything. It started raining a little just as I was buffing up my last layer of sealant :(

@charlie - strut brace looks good
Fixed a few minor issues, glove box lock now back in sync with car locks, and the door closing issue taken care of.
For our verts, the glove box locks when we lock our cars (depending on the lock keyhole position), is it the same on non-verts? (don't think it would be, but just checking).

Yeah but that's summer. It's different now that mornings are colder.
How about this little piece I left out. While installing my alarm siren last week, I shut one of the valves to the air conditioning/heating unit (?) in the firewall and forgot to put it how it was before I buttoned it all back up.
You can see the flap i closed here in this pic. It's on the right side and the flap that opens/closes is surrounded by a foam type of stuff.

Verified. Mine is at a constant 89-90 at the track. It's the same temperature when putting around town or on the highway.
With the colder temperatures, the water temperature is at operating temp by the time I reach my exit on the highway, which is two short exits. Approximately 2-3 miles total, with about half a mile of that around town before I get on the highway. It's very quick, within 3-4 minutes the car is warmed up completely. Heated seats nice and toasty by the time I finish merging onto the highway. :)

You guys got it nice.
I remember last winter I'd make it about 95% of the way to work before I actually got warm enough to turn the heat down from an 'almost full blast', but I think I fixed that with fresh coolant. Over the spring I noticed my heat got hotter AND warmer faster. So hopefully if I change the termostat, i'll be up to par with you guys.
Here's a link. Zoom in more by destination B and my car took from A to right before I'd cross the river to get warm enough :/

I did it too last week. It's a pretty good deal! They found a few things that I wasn't suspecting. Of course they immediately suggested that they change my rear shock mounts for $965, and my front brakes for $552. Yeah, sure. While I was enjoying the free food I overheard this conversation:
SA We're almost done with your car, but we noticed your cabin air filter is dirty. We could change it for $90, it's only gonna take a few more minutes.
Customer I mean I'd rather not spend the money but I don't want my car to break down on the highway. Is it really necessary ?
SA We'd really recommend doing it as part of routine maintenance, blablabla
I was astounded. I mean it's a 14-dollar part and you don't even need TOOLS to change it.
On another note I just changed my front O2's. They were original, on a 210k mi car :facepalm

I know the SA was just doing his job... I was astounded at the customer for not researching their $60k purchase (it was an E60 550) a tiny bit. I think it takes more time to fill up the gas tank than to change that damn filter.

Everyone dreads doing CABs but they can be done in a half hour if you use a 2 jaw puller... just take the aluminum support off (the big aluminum piece that covers the front end) unbolt the CAB from the body and use the puller to get it off the control arm. Put dish soap on the new one and slide it on. This is how the dealerships do it... they don't even use new bolts...

Somehow managed to break my car.
Drained tranny fluid, flushed some fluid out w/ new fluid... and as I was tightening the drain plug to torque, the torque wrench didn't click so I felt like something was iffy. Used my ratchet to get it back out (came out easily) and then I put it back in and went to torque it again and soon as I did, the thing split into 2 pieces. The head of it came out with the socket and the threads were in the drain plug threads. I unthreaded that and it came out.
I used my fill plug in place of it till I get a new one. Even better: Columbus day is on Monday and BMW will be closed until Tuesday. THEN I have to see if they even have the part in stock. All while I need a way to get back and forth to classes those two days.

Springs are the what drops the car, not shocks. So you're most likely at the same ride height as you were before you did this. AKA stock height

Nope wasn't looking to drop kept stock springs to hopefully keep stock ride height but looks a touch higher than with previous (OEM) shocks and struts ...perhaps due to the poor state of the OEM shocks and struts that I removed? Seem feasible?

It's drama like that as to why I now rock ZHP Mafia on both my ZHP and ///M3. "We" all are more civil and behaved on the most part over here. Even if we don't agree on something, you don't see that sort of behavior over here :thumbsup
As much as I do find info at E46F, M3 Forum, and Bimmerforum... I tend to feel more at home here because of how everyone is :) Makes me appreciate all the work that goes into making ZHPMafia what it is....the best "family" oriented BMW forum there is! :)
@Zell....thanks for pointing the thread in question. Yeah, I have been seeing that happening for quite some time.... people with that "I'm better than you" attitude and then ignoring your posts.....unfortunately it happens. Fortunately over here there are so many more helpful and supportive people to have constructive discussions with ;)
Yeah, don't worry I don't intend to bring any of that crap here. We're better than that.
I went off on him and went all dramallama because I just got really tired of the condescending attitude. It really has ruined that forum for me. I'm pretty sure every recent cooling thread (and even mod threads) has turned into a criticism war with the guy. Nothing constructive at all. I mean, just look at where that thread started and ended up. I figured I'll say what I want to say to him once and leave it be.
It's nice here because we post useful stuff and actually get things done. Like a FAMILY!
I can say that my attitude on here is much different than E46F. I basically don't give two craps on that board. I act fairly dissimilar to how I am in real life. E46Fanatics has turned into the 4Chan of E46 boards: occasionally has some golden stuff, but most of it is garbage. Here, I act a lot more like myself and who you guys know and have met. Not an asshole ;)

As someone said... it's easier for someone to hide behind the comfort of their keyboard and type brash statements towards others....then you see all the little "fan boys" jump in.... sort of like their own little gang....pfffft to that

I went off on that db mango before as well. I told a fellow fanatic how I got my style 5s to fit my e46 after he requested information on fitting aggressive wheels on his car. His attitude is pretty irritating and he replaces everything unnecessarily in his car. That is why he is still driving a preface lift e46 and some of us are in M's. He can keep replacing parts in his little to no value e46 while we all move onto bigger better cars. E46fanatics went downhill 3 years ago. End rant.
This thread was my tiff with him way back when:

E46Fanatics= Ego46Fanatics. There is a lot of Immaturity and Ego's over there.
Anyway, time for me to get back on topic.
Starting to hear the "chirp" that my starter tends to make when it's cold. I worry that it'll eventually burn out, but when I get my clutch replaced some day, I will hand them a new starter and ask them if they can put it in while it's out. That's the best time you can get to it from what I have heard.

I'm late to this and I don't want to take it back off topic but "butt-nugget" has absolutely got me :rofl. What a response! mango is a way overblown db, so I just ignore him. I just use e46f for what I need and ignore the rest of the drama.
Let's see, what can I say to get back on topic. Oh yeah, used the CA duster on my car. Since it's been painted, I haven't washed it at all and it really hasn't needed it (no rain, water to speak of to get it dirty). There's always a thin layer of dust after going to the beach and the duster works fine.

The top is actually in such good condition that I decided to pocket that money for other mods. The top that was sent to me went back, and I'm still waiting ups' decision on damages. That fiasco convinced me to not try to deal with another top. It was just my temporary car OCD that I was thinking to get a new one. I saw how other tops looked after years and realized mine's a lot better. Thanks for asking.

Why? The facelift ones are much slicker, to match the rest of the facelifted design. The pre-face is a more "grown up" look, but the facelift is a more "attitude" sort of look.

Today I actually gave Wobbie her first hose-car wash. I never bring it back to the yard to do a hose wash, so this was kind of a treat, though for some reason the cleaning didn't end up as nice as usual. My gawd the car looks so much better with OEM fog covers.

Dane has had a paint correction and then had my detailer attack it for 4 hours on Sat morning whereas BP had just completed a 500 mile drive on an IR of similar age and mileage that I don't think has had a paint correction. I too noticed what you mentioned in different tones of IR.

I swear different cars have different shades of Imola depending on the life of the car. My former car was, to me, absolutely lighter in hue than many other cars. I thought this was due to the fact that it was always an outside car. It will also vary depending on what products are used/current on top of the clear coat.

I love BP's calipers. One of my future goals is to get BMW Performance front calipers like that, then color-match them in the rear with some 2-piston Brembos and same style rotors.
BTW, these guys can make high-temp caliper paint and match it to any color:

Yup, those are the ones. The BMW Performance calipers are basically a BBK offered by BMW that fit on their newer cars, but ECSTuning made a caliper carrier to get them to fit :)

Mine has had some paint correction quite a while ago. The car was just really dirty when I drove down; it had been raining for a week straight before I could clean it, so it was gonna look like crap (as it did).
BP, I think you should paint the Hamann covers Dakar
Whatever they get painted will be up to Charlie, because he is inheriting them.
Honestly, I dig a white/red theme more than I dig a red/bright yellow theme. I saw a 1 series at the track a few months ago and his car was white and had red mirrors. It looked so cool, and I thought perhaps white mirrors on mine! It's not going to happen though, because it just wouldn't go with the overall theme of the car. Just some fun ideas...
I don't have the calipers on at the moment. I suspect one of the pistons is stuck, so I have to fix that issue and rebuild them with Turner's rebuild kit before I put them back on. Probably sometime next year, though I may sell them and get a smaller BBK (probably 4-piston) to make it easier to take them off and put them on to swap pads. These calipers are stupid heavy, and are a pain to swap brake pads with, which I'll be doing frequently. I swap pads for track events.
Not sure I'm even selling yet though, so keep your eyes peeled.

By plugging here you can leave the headlight nozzles completely disconnnected so it's easier to take the headlights out. Since he doesn't use the headlight washers, this made sense.
On mine, I will be replacing my headlight assemblies, lower head light trim, and disconnecting all my washer hoses :)

He might. It only takes perhaps 2 minutes to put on.
So what's he going to do when the car is dirty? The car is supposed to be clean when using the cover in order for dirt to not imbed itself in the weave of the cover. When this happens, all you're doing is putting scratches in your car every time thereafter when using the cover.
I'd rather my car get dirty in the elements.

Most likely he would ONR it and put the cover on. Or he'll deal with the swirls. He obviously is willing to risk swirl introduction for cover install. Jon, it's not a matter of my not liking headlight washers, but mostly because my passenger's side headlight assembly had way too many broken clips to where moisture was seeping inside. I was more worried of my passenger's headlight assembly causing electrical problems so I swapped it out with a perfect passenger's side headlight assembly but realized that the new part was for cars w/o cold weather package. On the new assembly, there were no mounts for the headlight washers so I had to delete my headlight washers if I wanted to swap out the passenger's side headlights. This is why I did this. I basically kept everything intact underneath so when I am able to source the "proper" part, I can opt to restore everything back to OE....but for now I will know that I can drive in the upcoming winter months not having to worry about my headlights :thumbsup
fwiw....I have no problems removing the headlights but find that the passenger's side is a real PITA due to lack of clearance and how tight the fit is with the hose in place....you tend to break the nozzle neck where the hose attaches to it before separating it....happened to me twice now....and that nozzle is a $60 part...:facepalm

Charlie, the front looks really clean. I really like the delete. Also like the new avatar.
Washed the exterior and detailed the interior. I'll be working on detailing the exterior this week. Gotta get her all shined up for EuroFest.

But, why?? Do you guys not like having this option? I've never used mine, and probably never will, but I still like them...
And fwiw, removing the lights is still plenty easy with the washers in place. I will try and take a video to show this when I get home. I had my lights out in about 20 minutes (from start to both assemblies on the ground...)
I can answer the why.
Personally, I think they're useless without wipers. The removal of the headlights really is more of a PITA because it's so easy to break stuff while removing the hoses and nozzles. I already broke one nozzle cover and ended up paying $140 or so to fix it. No more.

I've always coded it to be like that, but since painting the inner bowls yellow, they are useless.

Ah, I did not realize you painted your bowls yellow. One of the reasons I've never done so my self (other reason being I just don't like yellow ;))

Hmm? The washers don't attach to the headlights - they attach to the brackets underneath the headlights. As far as I'm aware, they all accept washers (even if they didn't, you could easily reuse the old bracket).

Yeah, when I painted them is when I had the projectors put in so little did I know that the highbeams would be screwed up. Oh well. Otherwise the bi-Xenon highs would have been more than sufficient. :(

I'm glad I didn't paint my high beam bowls, starting to dislike my yellow fogs, I think a hid retrofit is on the way soon, damn you Dalton and your beautiful headlight fog setup

I had to cannibalize from my ///M a turn signal bulb to swap into my ZHP this evening. Since I'm using white bulbs I will have to get another from the dealer tomorrow...:) One nice thing about having two BMWs....with the garage queen sitting proper inside the garage, I can grab a bulb when I need and swap into my daily driver....then get a new bulb to put back into the garage queen...:biggrin
Also ordered a voltage regulator to swap out in the alternator of my ZHP since it is beginning to have issues... planning to do the swap over the next weekend with BP's help...:thumbsup
Went to install my Piaa Super Silicone 22" insert - it's just a smidgen too short. I don't think their dimension is correct at all. :(
Passenger side fit just fine at 20." Literally just slide it in and go. The wiper insert has built-in notches on one end to keep the blade in, and the actual metal pieces have notches built in to keep them in place. Plus, they fit very snug and I am sure they won't go anywhere.
Do not follow the directions on the box, I do not understand what they're talking about with their little "lock" mechanism they speak of. It does not even fit on the rubber when it is installed. Everything will keep the wiper in-place as-is.
Order at least one size bigger than the manual states to guarantee that they'll fit. It's really strange. I ordered a 24" insert and hopefully can return my other one.

Today I got my new voltage regulator for my ZHP's alternator, a new turn signal bulb, and a new ZKW lens for the passenger's side.
Man do these parts rack up in $$$$

Great job! Love DIYing.
My car is in the shop today getting 2 tires, a premature oil change, and trying to run diagnostics on the comfort access system and DTC. Car won't connect to the BMW software even with manually entering VIN. Now it won't start... ruh-roh!

Awesome fix, but I don't get it. Why doesn't the black cover up the lighter parts of the cube and make it all dark? Also, can you post a close up pic?

The pattern is actually engraved in the aluminum. It's all the exact same color, it's just the light that makes it look lighter and darker in some areas. You could in theory paint it yellow and you'd have yellow cube lol. 'll post a close up tonight once it's dry! I didn't paint the part that's over the LCM as it was flawless so I'll post a comparison shot as well.

So in theory one could make their car silver cube instead of black? Interesting

It'd be very long though. This works because you spray very thin layers, multiple times - just a small mist of paint. To spray a lighter color on top of black would require like 15-20 layers of paint for it to look good and maintain the pattern. Doing silver > black would probably be much easier.

bout to go swap my newly sealed summers back on for 2-3 more weeks of driving. Hopefully this ends the need for me to pump them up every 2 days and be late for work!
also going to try to get the rear door BSW mid drivers in.

I'm glad your schedule has finally opened up for the header install. Do you have to get checked every year or every two? Cannot wait for the fitment results!

Dear everyone,
MAKE ME FEEL BETTER SLASH LET ME KNOW IF I DONE DID BAD:
I've been following this rule for jacking up my front end:
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=348089
http://www.availabledark.com/images/bmw/e46jack02.jpg
Plank under/around green side, one side at a time. The 'Mango and GoingNuts have both vehemently advised against doing this, because it could damage the vehicle. Is this true? Could I have done body damage/floor pan damage/ruined the structural integrity of my car? I know nothing about that part of cars, so jacking up a vehicle has always really made me nervous.
http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/u/h/129.png
It looks like it connects to #1, and for the most part I have tried to make sure I jacked as close to that part as possible. I mean, the reinforcement plate bolts to this thing as well.
Have I potentially done damage to my car and have no idea? One day I did hear a "pop" when I was doing it, but it sounded more like wood creaking because I use a thin wooden plank and my jack digs into it pretty hard when I jack it up.
I inspected it all very, very carefully and found no cracks, bends, or whatnot under both "rails" of the car. I don't notice anything pushed up in the car either. What do you all think? Am I okay?
Yes, I am paranoid.
