We own a 2003 Honda Pilot and pay $29.95 from the Honda dealer to get an oil service done...
My E32 costs around $35 for me to do the oil change, or my mechanic does it for free if I give him the oil change parts.
E46 is $55 just for parts (I use OEM bmw synthetic oil)
My Z4M is going into oil service next week at BMW.
I don't have time to do it myself considering I get home from.college and do Autocross the next day.
Its $100 in parts, I'm getting it done for $130...ill suck up the $30

No. We are referring to the vanos piston bolts. They actually secure the vanos pistons to the splines.

$130 for an oil change on a S54 motor is very reasonable IMO. Especially considering the Castrol oil it requires.

Just met a new BMW owner who just purchased a '06 328i from a use car dealer just last week. He also purchased an aftermarket warranty. Well, his car overheated and he had to take it to the Escondido BMW delaer since he thought he was under warranty. The dealer was willing to do the work. But his after market warranty will not accept the dealer. Because evidently, a warranty only kicks in after 90 days of ownership. He was PO'ed. Now, he had to take to an indie authorized by the warranty company and will do the work but at a reduced price. I told him a little about the club. He will now join the club and start going through all of the E90 forums......He was a previous Merc owner.

Just sent an email to my body shop in Dorchester MA where the zhp will be undergoing its makeover. Really excited to see the end results.
The hood:
Getting painted 100% TIAG with no CF exposed at all.
Getting recessed hood pins.
Getting custom bodywork done around the headlights so the hood will now sit flush.
Getting the grill inlets enlarged to fit the oem chrome facelifted grills.
The lip:
Getting molded to the bumper and painted 100% TIAG with no CF exposed.
The trunk:
Getting painted 100% TIAG with no CF exposed.
Driver rear fender:
Getting nicks touched up from road rash.

Today we dropped off the X5 at the dealership. She's in low mode and can't seem to get up after having 3 of the 4 air bags in the suspension replaced in the last week, nickle and dimin' me!!!! Looks sick tho...

^ I hope you have CPO on that. There's an X5 thats in the dealer in my area CONSTANTLY with this problem, and it's been in the thousands on at least 2 occasions for her IIRC. These air ride suspensions are the reason I didn't even look at X5's when looking for my zhp.

i ordered a dr color chipset kit and finalized my schedule to have my hood, bumper, and fender resprayed (fender got a ding on it)
the kit's for anything that hits the car between the respray and when i put the clear bra on the bumper/hood!
also looking at picking up a few replacement pieces (reflectors, side markers, dead pedal trim, etc) to fix up some spots in need of some love... just waiting on mike from bmwpartstore.com to get back to me on a quote.

Pretty sure the flap was for non-zhp 330s only, not 325s (my sister's didn't have it) and neither did a 323 I looked at. The ZHP muffler is louder and it does delete that valve, so the sound increase is a combination of both. If it's stuck open don't worry about it, it sounds better anyway.

^^^ OH LAWD! That thing is teh sex
Alright, Special thanks go out to Keith for showing me what a probable cause of my oil leak was. That turned out to be it.
I took my fan out (so easy, I love this car) and got some MAF cleaner and sprayed everything off and then re-attached it all and put my fan back on (Then i cut myself. About 2 inches sliced :() and took her for a stroll. I came back an inspected everything and found (so far) no leaks.
While my spirited stroll I realized something:
DSC is a lot like your mom. Having DSC on is like playing with you toys when you were little while your mom sat and watched you. Turning DSC off is like playing alone in your room, but having your mom close incase anything happens. Having DSC completely off is like playing alone in your room, while your mom is off at the store. Playing can get rough.. and can get real real quick, but you won't have 'mom' around to quickly jump to your aid in such a situation :rofl
Didn't know there were 3 stages of dsc. I thought it was on or off.

If you just press it, the dsc light comes on in the center of your cluster. this means its in the mode where you can do some stuff but it will still kick in. If you hold the dsc button down for 5 seconds another yellow light comes on to the right on your cluster. This means dsc is completely off and you can have as much fun as you want. Too bad there's no LSD in our cars.

I will make a confession to the family. This is coming from the Pre-Flight video guy--
I occasionally drink coffee in the ZHP. The eurotray actually holds a cup of coffee quite securely. I use the sliding lid on the tray to trap the cup.
Had to slam the brakes in traffic last year with a 16 ounce Starbucks in the euro-- didn't lose a drop.

Got a bit sideways at the bottom of the downhill at Lime Rock. Up to that point I always kept the DSC off completely. After that, I left it in the middle setting, which seems give me the PERFECT amount of wheelspin; no power bogging at all on Lime Rock with the DSC in the middle setting.
This time around, however, I'm turning that sucker back off. I used to run an E30 with no traction control and 600 pounds less weight; I think I can handle a car with 5 less hp. :biggrin

Nice! I did some flushing today as well (in the newer zhp):
-M1 75W90 in the diff
-Pentosin MTF-2 in the transmission (once again VERY impressed!)
-BMW DOT-4 in the brakes and the clutch via power bleeding, also deleted the CDV while I was at it.
I am very pleased with the results!
Trans and diff were still very golden, the owner before me was not up on the car but the one before him must've taken care of it. That said there was so much fluid in the trans it dumped all over my friend/helper when he opened the fill plug (on a lift)!

decided to go ahead and redo the bumper, hood, fender, roof, and trunk on a sand down and respray. gonna run just under $1200 for the whole thing so I think I got a pretty good deal on it considering i'm redoing over half of the paint on the car lol
Reason? My car's pitted and marred badly from acid rain... polishing has not corrected the pits (spent 3 hours on the trunk) so the next best solution is just correcting the paint
Sides of the car don't seem too bad, probably because the acid rain didn't get to sit on the clear coat and eat away at it.

Sounds like the driver side motor on the mirror is going out. Similarly something happened to mine. My mirrors were no longer adjusting and the heated mirror was still working on the passenger side only. Turns out replacing the driver side motor alleviated the problem. I plugged the car into the machine and had numerous faults for the driver motor inop (251 times).
The part number is 67 13 8 362 421. MSRP is $97.44 :(

It was affecting both of your mirrors? Like I said, I don't adjust my mirrors a lot... so could it be the passenger side mirror that has a motor going out? Because that's the one that's constantly moving when I put the car in reverse.

The driver side motor is the master motor. If it does not work, it will cause the passenger side to be inoperative as well. The heating element on the passenger side mirror was still working however, so it confirmed it was the driver side. I also had access to BMW ISTA/P to look it up :)

Washed and waxed today, because it was WAY overdue. I love using the PC buffer for waxing! 3 hours to get both vehicles (wife's 4x4 F150 SC) clean and shiny. Not a bad afternoon.

Youtube Autopluschina. It was kinda weird to randomly send money via Palpal to a guy in China, but I got the lights just as advertised....well they don't really advertise...It's like they don't want to market them. I think it's a new company without a US distributor. The weight and the look is like if you took pocket binoculars and split them. I'm using the holder that came with right now, but may permanently install in door pocket. These are attention grabbers at night.

actually, considering your build date I'm thinking this may be the reason (from the FAQ)
Additionally, while the trunk lid spoiler came standard, there was an option to have it deleted (option code 326). And this side note: some ZHPs, in early 2004, did not come with the trunk lid spoiler (even though customers did not choose option code 326) -- because of a parts shortage. Customers who complained eventually got them installed at the dealer at no cost (covered under warranty).

here's how impulsive i am - you guys are gonna love this. so i had been looking to replace my ratty floor mats for a while, finally settled on some. received my new floor mats a couple weeks ago, which i posted a picture of, however i was not thrilled with them. they are from bavauto and are much thicker than OEM and are black with silver piping around the edge. truth be told, i just didn't love the look after i received them. but i paid $125 for them and figured, eh, with time i'll grow to like them.
well fast forward to this morning where i come to find Db4popov's post with the BMW puddle lights, and happen to notice his ///M floor mats in the video. i had seen those style before for the M3, but they always had the complete "///M3" instead of just the "///M" logo. so then i hop over to ebay and see these bad boys: http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-05-BMW-E46-325-328-330-M3-FLOOR-MAT-CARPETS-4PCS-SET?item=190662896417&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D4%26po%3D LVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7768317526913492874
$49.99 w/ free shipping?! hell freakin' yes please! so immediately i checked bavauto's return policy and i'm still within the window (30 days after receipt), called 'em up, and got the return authorization lol. i'll end up saving $60 or so after return shipping, and i feel like OEM mats will look pretty sweet, matching the wheel and shifter etc..
end blahg.
edit: and actually it looks like since i purchased just a few mins ago, that ebay listing has now gone down an additional 5% to $47.49. lol

Today I took my ZHP through the automatic car wash (I live in a condo, so don't really have the opportunity to wash it at home) and I also took wheel cleaner and tire shine to the wheels and tires.
Only problem is that my front roundel fell off in the wash. Luckily I noticed it while I was doing the wheels and I went right back and picked it up off the ground. This is the second time this has happened (in fact this is a brand new roundel because the last one chipped after falling off).
So, question for the Mafia: should I just super-glue it on there? The backing that it came with is sticky, but not sticky enough. I think that if I super-glue it, the roundel could still be replaced because I'm talking about super-gluing the roundel itself to the backing frame that actually goes into the car. My replacement roundel came with both items but I only used the actual roundel. So if I ever needed to replace the roundel (say it got cracked etc) I think I could replace both the frame and the roundel. Sound good?
Ryans323i
04-16-2012, 03:44 PM
Are you talking about the hood roundel? Maybe you need the little rubber grommets for the prongs. Do not super glue it!
Ok wait, I just reread your post. If the sticker is coming off the backing, you may want to epoxy it to the backing.
Stripped my interior out this weekend. Hopefully get to send in soon so copies can be made in suede, leather, alcantara etc...
Oh, repainted my rear shelf cover, it was purple... now it is back to black.

Steve and I have decided to finish off the cooking system rebuild (mostly) on the '02 and take a break for a while so we can start working on the 911. We'll keep working on the interior/paint/random stuff but no more big projects.
The faster I can get the P-car ready to drive, the sooner I put the '02 in my garage instead of Steve's. Also, it keeps my "purchase price" and mods I don't actually want to a minimum (some already there and will need to be changed eventually)

http://www.khoalty.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/335x285/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/l/cl_b3_e46_4d_02_led_c2_a9.jpg
So I didn't have a ton of time or space to test out the ecu flash by eurocharged, but here is my overall impression. It took a long time to read the ecu before sending the data off to Jerry (about an hour and 15 min). After that I waited another half hour for Jerry to work his magic off site since this was through a eurocharged dealer. ASP was a small hole in the wall shop, but it worked. The shop seemed a little crazy and hectic and they didn't seem extremely knowledgeable about ecu flash other than they do them and what it is supposed to do. I probably know more about it because of Seth and reading the threads.
I have a steptronic transmission so it leaves a little something to be desired here and there. Here is what I've seen in the thread:
What goes into tuning a ZHP at Eurocharged?
A: Some of the MANY areas (but not all) that we are able to modify to make the ZHP faster and more powerful are:
-Ignition advancing
-Air mass flow
-Fuel mapping
-RPM limiter
-IVVT set points
-Valve spread on inlet cam
-Thermostat control
-Fan speed control
And most importantly for the Steptronic Transmission - Throttle sensitivity <-- what I was looking for! I was also looking for a more aggressive feeling and better shift points.
On my short freeway drive into a traffic filled San Francisco from Daly City I found the throttle sensitivity to be exactly what I was looking for. There is no longer a gap when pushing the throttle down and getting a bit of power and then finally engaging. It literally feels like I push the pedal down and get the sweet spot right away. Red line was improved and shift points felt great. I still need to drive it more to give a true review because I did not have nearly the amount of time or open areas I wanted.
Overall I feel like my car is now more aggressive like it should have been from the start and I'll be stopping by the fuel pump much more :thumbup A more in-depth review to come.
