I can do a basic black or silver to just make them look not gross or I can go yellow or blue to make them pop - just not sure how they'd look on an all grey car with dark charcoal wheels and black accents (grilles/tips/trim). :dunno

Make sure if you get black to get a gloss, the satin doesn't look that good IMO

Spent 6 Hours yesterday replacing my Control Arms and changing my oil....OMG the factor Control Arm bolts seemed like they had fused one and were a bitch! I ended up having to use a torch to heat the bolts and remove them. My ball joint was pretty much falling apart.

Also inspected why I had lost a quart of Oil, and its looks like I may have a bad oil pan gasket :(

Also saw that something damaged the metal brace under my car...I attached a picture. Its like it grabbed it and ripped it...idk what happened?

The car feels so much better now with new control arms. It handles like brand new again :) I love it. Next thing on the list is coil overs :)

Im gradually more and more amazed with this car. 56k and its not experiencing any of the typical zhp problems. No power loss at around 4k, no rattle, no torn lower intake boot, and none of the cooling problems. Car runs perfectly!

Yesterday, I washed, waxed and put Rain-x on my car. I also vacuumed it. It looks awesome. Well, it looked awesome. Last night, the county came by and cleaned the parking garage behind my parking lot (where I park, duh). They were using leaf blows and subsequently blew a bunch of road/parking lot grime in the air which settled on my car. Not a huge amount - you can only see it from 3-4 feet away. A quick dusting with a rag will help, and I gotta scan for missed spots of wax, anyway.

But dammit!! ARGH! On a side note, they were using these leaf blowers at 10:00 p.m.

I checked it, and it seems like it's coolant mixed with oil (I have a lot of oil in my splash guard from my VANOS stud leak) It was kind of dry, so I couldn't pick enough of it up to smell it, but it seemed to not have any particular smell.

I really don't know what I'm going to do. I think my thermostat is stuck open as well, as the water temp on my dash is always on the cold side.. no matter what. This is my one and only car and I don't work enough yet because of school to be able to fund a cooling system overhaul. Agh.. :'(

Do you need the tape Primer when installing the Di-Noc??

I didn't use any.... I didn't see any of that used in any of the videos on YouTube. I did wash all the parts with soapy water then dired with towels and a heat gun.
FYI when Kristen ordered from Bimmian, it was a huge sheet. I have a lot let over so if anyone's worried about messing up, there is enough material to make a lot of mistakes, LOL

If anyone is interetsed, I can bring a few pieces to the meet so you guys can play around with it...

For the Mafia meet I plan to go down with my Style 135s/Michelin Pilot Super Sports and occasionally I will alternate with my Beyern Mesh Wheels w/ Dunlop Direzza DZ101.

Right now I'm rubbing slightly using my Beyerns so after getting my fenders rolled at the meet, I'm guessing that problem will be history :)

Car is making some kind of weird rattle...I've isolated it to be something not associated with suspension or drivetrain. Revving while stationary I can replicate the noise. I'm hoping it's not clutch/flywheel related. Wery well could be exhaust, which has been showing sides of gasket replacement for a while now.

But the sound is definitely metal on metal and very annoying on partial throttle.

I'm hoping it's not clutch/flywheel related. Wery well could be exhaust, which has been showing sides of gasket replacement for a while now.

That sounds oddly like my rattle. It doesn't rattle at first when u start the car, but u give it a little gas and let off and the rattle is there. It goes away when u rev up the rpms.

Also, I just checked my check engine code and it is P0161.

On my way to drop my car off at the stealer ship :/ the noise is really bad and it needs to get checked out ASAP. Dealership is my only option right now. And the service department closed at 5 :/

But....perks of having friend that works at the dealership...he called the president of the company that owns the dealership and got me a loaner BMW and they are checking my car in after five :)

Well as I was finishing up washing the car a huge T-storm rolled in w/ torrential rain and even small hail. I saw it coming and put the car in the garage to dry her off, so no damage. But I did get kinda stuck in the garage, as I didn't want to make my way through the storm to the house, so I tried out the M105 and M205 I ordered a few weeks ago. I taped off the trunk lid (it's my least favorite part of the whole car, if/when you see it in person you'll understand) and went to work. I had a few deep scratches that came right out with 3 "sessions" of the M105 on a medium-heavy (orange) cutting pad, then followed by 2 "sessions" w/ the M205 and finishing pad (black). Wow, does it look good! And the polishes were so easy to use, I couldn't believe it! They didn't sling all over the place, it was easy to tell when I had worked the product enough, and the results were amazing. I spent less than 30 mins total too. I can't say enough about how awesome M105 and M205 are, everyone was right!

Fyi, bad motor mounts and transmission mounts can can do some driveshaft component damage.

I haven't done e46 mounts but most vehicles you take the nut off the mount jack the engine up enough to slide old one out and put new in drop engine tighten up and that's it. Just make sure you have clearance in the engine bay and don't snag any wires.

That's basically it. A few tips:

I raised engine with jack and block of wood benearth oil pan. An engine support would make it much easier. HF sells one for like $65.
Removing cabin air filter tray (4 Torx screws, probably T30) gives you more room to raise the engine
Use 2 or 3 3/8" extensions and a wobble or u-joint to reach top engine mount nut on passenger side. I removed secondary air pump to get more room.
Remove airbox (and possibly upper intake boot) to access top MM nut on driver's side
One wobble extension through control arm to reach lower engine mount nuts on both sides.
I had to detach engine mount bracket on passenger side to get new mount in. It's connected to engine block with 4 bolts. Other DIYs don't mention this so maybe I was doing something wrong.
Re-use heat shield piece over passenger side mount
Loosen lower nuts on transmission mounts before raising engine. I didn't do this with stock tranny mounts and they seemed okay but I think that's how I broke my aftermarket poly transmission mounts (or they were defective, still not sure).
Nuts on motor mounts are either 15mm or 16mm. Can use 5/8" socket if you don't have 16mm. I think torque is about 37 foot-lbs per Bentley
Nuts on right side motor mount bracket are probably 13mm. Don't over-torque when reinstalling. But I can't remember the torque spec, perhaps 18 foot-lbs?

I have two spots and the other (not pictured) is in worse shape. I am surprised the PO (BMW mechanic at my dealership) didn't bother to get this fixed.... :facepalm

Now that I got my pinstripes all deleted, rust spots corrected I will be happier :)

The M3 side mirrors are getting addressed as well. Last night we did some trimming and fitting and the baseplates all fit correctly. I have a few holes to drill so that I will be able to mount my baseplates onto the door. Original holes do not line up.

The delay is caused by my friend's son starting his racing season. His race car got slammed last weekend and his driver's fender smashed so my friend is also busy trying to get his son's race car sorted out for another race this upcoming Easter weekend. He is forced to shuffle several jobs and I don't want him to rush mine. I told him I would prefer quality over getting my car done in a week so here I am looking at possibly two weeks before I am able to take delivery of my ZHP.

That's okay since that's two weeks I don't have to drive and allow the paint on my spoiler to cure w/o having to worry about getting it chipped before getting home...:)

thanks everybody. Brembo doesn't make a 2002 kit, it would probably be the Wilwood kit (but not sure), it's a local guy selling some parts for an old project car he sold. Both will have more than enough stopping power since the car weighs absolutely nothing. I will also have to change the rears from drums to discs which will make it stop much better. Not sure what comes with either kit that guy has, it might just be calipers and pads.

I used Griot's Garage One Step Sealant then their Best of show wax on the trunk. Looks so good. Went ahead and did the whole process M105,M205, and Griots on the hood. Looks amazing. Minus the chips she's incurred, the paint looks as good as the first day she was painted. I love how easy the Meguiars is to use, and Griots makes the paint look dripping wet.

I can't wait to get some good pictures of her.

I have a bad issue on the wheel well too. The whole fender needs to be replaced. I can't fix it.

Moms e90 had a meltdown on its first trip to the shore unfortunately.
She got to Atlantic City rest stop, car was fine. Merged back onto the parkway and bam. Water pump blew up, steam was everywhere, and the car warned to turn engine off immediately, which she did.
Got it towed to the closest dealer, got a new water pump, and all is right in the world again.
I was under the impression 31,000 miles is very low to have a failure like that. Judging from the water pump in my ZHP being replaced at ~75k.

Today I took the splash guard off with a buddy and found out what's leaking.

So far what I found I need is a reservoir, lower (ill do upper while I'm there too), expansion tank, & expansion tank hose.

When I get a new expansion tank, Can I reuse my old fluid level sensor & cap?

Yeah... Just twist the sensor 90 degrees, after unplugging. Cap should be fine as well.

Well the really bad noise that I had ended up being the ps pump pully, which the tightened up :)

Also went ahead and had them replace my vcg because it needed it badly, and I dont have time right now to replace it.

They service guys were really cool and let me check on the progress and watch for a little bit.

I go to pick it up tomorrow :)

Wow thanks Dane. Unfortunately, I'm leaking pretty good. I'm going down to BMW tomorrow to see if they have the parts in stock (they should, I walk by them every day) and I'll hopefully be installing them on Friday. Plus, shipping time..and using old parts would only mean I'd have to do the same process again. But if I need anything, I'll keep you in mind.

Heh, That the way I feel about Kris' 135 and my ZHP. The 135 has 405 HP at the rear wheels and sounds incredible I just want to get into it all the time but the ZHP is much more drivable and there is just something about it that is so enjoyable... I'm not sure what that is...

Out with the old...BMW stockers. Arranged as bottom being front of the car #1 and top being #6. #3 had a decent amount of oil. Might have to get new plug seals.....you would think it would of been done when the VCG was done. Could it be something else?

I pulled the coil pack out and noticed it was wet on the tip. Pulled the spark plug out and it was wet with oil and inside the socket when I pulled out the plug was wet with oil. Looked down in the plug tube when the plug was out and there was a little oil pooled on the bottom side. I was told the valve cover gasket was done a month or so before I purchased the car.

Washed her quickly yesterday as she needed one badly! Caked with pollen and such. Looks much better now. Rained today though so I'm going to do a detail this weekend as I'm going home tomorrow (no friday classes!) so she'll have a fresh coat of sealant and wax!

I also:
-switched back to the BMW performance shifting knob from stock to change it up a bit.
-installed new air filter

I also went to switch my HID igniter on the driver side that's been intermittent with one Dane gave me to realize that the igniters for AL and ZKW lights are different. I have AL and Dane has ZKW so now I have to find an igniter for an AL headlight.

Any ideas?

I have "before" pics from the detail after I removed the paint over spray, but they do not show the hairline scratches and the flatness of the paint. You mention your black, I hate the black on my car, mainly for the reason you mentioned. It's so hard to take care of!

The car has seen some BMW service but not sure if the gaskets were replaced by them. Maybe it was done at the Nissan Dealership I picked up the car from. Previous owner did work there and only had the car for less than a year, if I remember correctly.

My mirror situation is kind of a long story.

I bought the ZHP with the M3 mirrors already fitted, but they were all FUBAR. The driver's side adjusted in diagonal directions. The passenger side didn't move at all because the motor was shot. I finally got around to fixing them over a year later. I replaced the passenger side motor and adjusted the driver's side one so it would move in a grid-like fashion. Unfortunately the mirror motors were mounted incorrectly from the first owner, so the mirror slightly rubbed on the housing when at full tilt. Not much of a problem for the driver's side, though the glass still wasn't centered in the housing. The passenger side, however, was a problem, because it rubbed on the housing at every reverse maneuver. I must not have done something right on the driver's side because the glass shook like an addict going through withdrawal. I finally fixed that a few weeks (or months) later and both glasses were nice and still during highway driving.

Today we finally tackled this once and for all. Both mirror motors now sit correctly in the housing and the glass is now perfectly centered. But, because the first owner FUBAR'd the glass backings, I now need two new mirror glasses because the backings had to be separated and adjusted to properly fit inside the housings now. So, BOTH mirror glasses shake to an extent 20x worse than the driver's side was shaking before. I swear I'm surprised that I haven't had a seizure yet from the amount of shaking on the highway. It's annoying me to no end, and MUST buy mirror glasses ASAP otherwise I will drive myself crazy in the mean time.



Too bad I'm too f#$%ing cheap to spend $100+shipping on two pieces of friggin' glass for the regular version. I really want the euro version but those are double that price. :shifty

I did a full detail today! Decided to take over half of the 4.5 car garage for it :p

These are before pics. Will post after pics tomorrow when I put the last coat of wax on and finish the interior.

-CG Citrus and gloss car wash
-clay
-wash again
-CG Creme Glaze
-Blackfire sealant
-dodo juice hard and soft wax
-sonax
-poorboys wheel sealant
-mothers mag and aluminum polish + steel wool for exhaust tips

Also my dad works for an LED company and I found one of their old light boards they used at trade shows at his office with 120 LED's in it and tried it out for spotting imperfections and it is absolutely amazing!

Why not try peeling back all the old double sided tape, and put some new pieces of tape on? Wouldn't that solve the shaking? I noticed mine shook while I was driving it to the body shop, but I figured a few pieces of new tape would fix that.... But I have not done my motor conversion yet.
I purchased my mirrors on eBay for $292 shipped, then just doing the mods and having them painted with my insurance claim; I think I got into these pretty cheap!
Seeing them on your car in person is what made me realize I NEEDED m3 mirrors- car looks good!

Why not try peeling back all the old double sided tape, and put some new pieces of tape on? Wouldn't that solve the shaking? I noticed mine shook while I was driving it to the body shop, but I figured a few pieces of new tape would fix that.... But I have not done my motor conversion yet.
I purchased my mirrors on eBay for $292 shipped, then just doing the mods and having them painted with my insurance claim; I think I got into these pretty cheap!
Seeing them on your car in person is what made me realize I NEEDED m3 mirrors- car looks good!

That's exactly what we did. The backing of his mirrors were hacked. Whoever did this retrofit went about it completely half azzed and just made it work. The clip-on part was cut off the original mirror and then taped on the M3 mirrors after those mirrors were hacked. Its like putting a band-aid over a leaking pipe.....not a good solution. BP is going to have to completely replace both mirrors with new ones to get rid of the shaking....

Yeah, after seeing these mirrors mounted on BP's ZHP, I also realized I needed to have this done. Luckily Jon sent me some pics of how he solved the mounting problem of the old "ribbon cable" style mirror motors and this seemed the perfect solution. I applied this to BP's mirrors and they worked perfectly. I will be doing this to my mirrors on Monday/Tuesday and getting them completely mounted on my ZHP. Can't wait to get this done! :)

Today, I got my leak taken care of. I got parts yesterday at work and when I pulled it in the garage to work on it at a buddies... coolant was literally a constant stream. So in about 2 hours, we got it taken care of. It's still under constant eye for now, just to make sure everything is going as hoped.

Lots of things accomplished this weekend:
- On the IR vert, 30K mile service consisting of engine oil change, tranny fluid change, diff fluid change, new micro cabin filter, new wiper blades. (Brakes, rotors, & fluid were already changed at 15K miles, BMW Performance intake was added at 20K miles, so just blew out the filter.). Think I've covered everything that's due at 30K.
- On the TIAG coupe, LCABs and window tinting (35% door windows, 20% on rear). Buffed a previous scuff markon the rear bumper, got the other car's paint off but the car bumper cover is still obvious. Also bought a Dinan CAI over on E46F.
- On my dd (Denali), engine oil change and cleaned the throttle body, washed/cleaned the beast too which is time consuming

You literally just poke the wire through the firewall, and tap into the red/green wire in the floorpan light. That's it! I dropped my glovebox just to make it easier. I don't have a camera here at school though so I can't do a tutorial, sorry.

Cleaned it up, finished finally after re-installing the bumper and the new crap quality reflectors. I also replaced my center armrest cover and got the armrest to stop creaking, so I'm happy!

Oh also! The combination of the RCs with the new Super Sports (no caps) weigh 38.9lbs each front (225/40), and 40.8lbs (255/35) rear! So I dropped closed to 50lbs in rotational weight.

So it turns out that the taillight recall is bullsh*t.

I just got my car back from having the "repair" done. I still have a ground wire that is no longer in the connector and a gaping hole in the connector where the ground used to be.

I went back to the dealer and they informed me that the "new" service bulletin says to just add a ground. They said that unless the other wires around the ground were affected, the connector doesn't get replaced.

I already had the additional ground wire put in as if August 2010, so in essence, they didn't do anything and took an hour to do it.


I have zero complaints about the dealer. It was an excellent experience, which I'll do a writeup for in the dealer section. I'm just disappointed that much connector is still f*cked up.

Yea stay away from armor all unless you love that look. Aerospace protectant, optimum leather protectant (can use this on dash too) and einzett cockpit premium are all solid products. I use aerospace cloth and upholstery cleaner as well.

This. Even if I don't do it, it costs me around $60-70 if I have my mechanic do it. $130 is way too much money for an oil change, IMO.
If I do it, I can get away with the oil and filter for about $40-50, depending on pricing.

We own a 2003 Honda Pilot and pay $29.95 from the Honda dealer to get an oil service done...

My E32 costs around $35 for me to do the oil change, or my mechanic does it for free if I give him the oil change parts.

E46 is $55 just for parts (I use OEM bmw synthetic oil)
