I have owned a few sets of Yoko S.Drives - the Conti DW's are quieter, more comfortable and grip harder. Oh and they were $40 less too. My guess is Yoko is going to come out with something new soon.

Not sure about BMW but on US made cars you can get a repair pigtail (connector with a few inches of wire that you splice into the harness) for just about any connector. I don't know if these would show up on Realoem or not. You might have to talk to a dealer with a parts man that knows his stuff. Maybe one of the guys at Tischer would know what you need. If worse comes to worse that panel for the headliner is only something like $15 IIRC.

Gawd, that sucks.

If you can get the connector from Tischer, you'll be able to either crimp the wires in or splice it up (if the connector comes with wire leads).

Pull the tape back a little and see if all three wires are there (looks like a brown, green, and red).

All you need is the p/n of the plug itself and then the p/n of the bushing contacts it uses. 100% repairable, just need to investigate a little.

I'm digging through real oem, haven't found it yet. From delmarco's thread:

well, i'll have to eat crow. I can't find the P/N for the life of me. Your best bet is to snip one out of a wrecker yard.

OMG OMG. I just had the biggest retard moment I've ever had in my life. I go to change my oil, loosen the drain plug, only i &$&^%()# tightened it more and I think it broke in half! I just read its designed to be softer so it just wrecks the bolt and not the oil pan. Or did i really really F it up and strip the oil pan?

Honestly I'm not as stupid as I just appeared to be. I'm actually embarrassed to be typing this right now

Today was an eventful day for me and my ZHP.

Went to my dads today and took the long (fun) way and my ZHP scared me for the first time. Nothing bad.. just something where I didn't see myself not going in the ditch. DSC kept me in good line. Then coming BACK from my dads, Bambi (2x) and Mom were in the middle of the street as I came around the beginning leg of an S turn. Slammed on my brakes and the two little fawns were in the other lane and mom was about to walk on the street. I guess I scared mom with my flashers and ABS kicking in because I saw her whip around and run. At this point I was still on the brakes while looking for the two fawns, mom, and flashing my highs as fast as I could for the oncoming car so they didn't hit the fawns. My Nikon camera and thing of wax went flying off my front seat on to the floor as well. Good way to keep me on the edge of the seat while still shaking a bit for the remainder of my ~5 minute ride.

PHEW. Thank god for my car and ABS.

Keith, that depends...I had my 323i with 145k and had no issues regarding the alternator and my ///M currently has 142k and everything is fine. Hard to tell with these things....you can have lower mileage and have your alternator fail or have it last well into the 150's still be going strong...

I was poking around inside a wrecked E46 sedan at a salvage yard just yesterday.

Fwiw to anyone, it had what seemed to be a decent right side xenon assembly. Also a decent non-sport gray leather interior.

PM me and if I go back out there I'll see if it has the UGDO or at least the connector in question.

Wish my wheels--and whole car--looked that clean! And assuming your ride height is stock, it gives me an idea of how much I lowered my car. Because I don't have "before" ride height measurements, only "after" ones.

Last night I changed my oil and discovered a broken oil plug ;-(. I blame Jiffy Lube, the last ones to torque that bolt! Luckily, I had both some broken bolt extractors and a new magnetic drain plug from UUC that I was planning to put in.

I used to be "lowering the car is stupid" or "performance is everything, stance is nothing." Then I lowered it between 1/2" and 3/4" with coilovers (for performance, is my official story) and was thinking "Hey this looks pretty cool" and it didn't really scrape in driveways or anything. Then the rear tires (track tires, a little wider with lower offset) started rubbing in turns so I raised it up a tiny bit. Then last night I went over a speed bump too fast and when the front end came back down off the bump, something under the car--probably reinforcement plate--landed hard on the speed bump. Yuck! So either I need to go over speed bumps more slowly or get higher front spring rate. Or raise the car back up to stock height.

Actually I already got higher rate front coilover springs (used from someone on M3forum), but I don't have the matching higher rate rear springs yet.

I'm lowered on my ///M (see sig) about 1 1/2" and try to avoid speed bumps whenever I can, but if I have to go over them I go really slow to ensure I don't scrape my strauss lip spoiler or anything underneith. The key with lowered cars is to go over speed bumps slow but try to avoid them if possible.

Maybe try some degreaser. Or some sort of rim/wheel cleaner. That shouuuld take care of most of the dust on them.

BMW does not put M badges on the trunk. Or the hood for that matter. M parts are labeled as such for displaying some pedigree towards the Motorsport Credo (for lack of a better word).
Aftermarket BMW suppliers supply badges for cars that have parts of that variety. Hamann makes Aerodynamic Body Kits, Wheels, Rear Spoilers, Interior Parts, etc.

No Hamann parts, no Hamman Badge. It's phony.

Well finally got both lenses in my hands and while I was at it, I put in new headlight gaskets to hopefully resolved my leaking/fogging issues :fingerscrossed, and new bulb retainers. Mine were broke.

I also took it upon myself to paint the beauty trim inside the headlights. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go matte grey or matte black. I stood in front the the paint section for 10 minutes trying to decide and I couldnt make a choice. I wanted to darken them but I wanted to keep that touch of lux! I just wasnt sure if the black would be too sporty. Oh well. I just sucked it up and went black. I used Duplicolor Matte Black Trim Paint. I applied two light coats and used a hair drier to aid in the drying process. The paint came out with such a nice color. It's a very deep matte. Almost a 'wet matte'; and I think with the remaining can, I am going to re paint my side view mirror trim black so it looks new once again. This paint can be found at your local auto parts retailer. I picked mine up from Advance Auto.

Pictures came out pretty horrible for whatever reason but what can ya do. Hopefully I am going to be picking up a nice Nikon in the future. I used to do quite a bit of photography in highschool and a few years out and loved it. Loved using manual cameras but I think I want to get into digital photography.

Two possible answers to that...
A/Optimist: Nothing! Just happy to pass so I don't have to smog again for 2 years
B/Pessimist: Shark Injector and 160,000 miles

It turns out the optimistic expectation was the proper one! I guess the real issue was anxiety from last year's test of my '98 Saturn, which barely passed the hydrocarbon test (it did fine on CO and NO). Of course on that car has faulty oil control piston rings and a deleted pre-cat so it's missing some of its pollution control capabilities when the main cat is not up to temp. I have a scanned copy of the smog test results around here somewhere...

Edit here it is. The smog check guy said the averages were for my specific model and year, but I'm not sure if that's true or if they are just averages for a broader category, like all 6-cylinder gasoline-powered passenger vehicles from 2003. The HCs were zero and the O2% was low... I wonder if the Shark Injector actually lowers those numbers by running the system leaner tahn stock and closer to the ideal stochiometric ratio. My CO was higher than average during the 15mph run... I think I heard high NO can be from higher combustion temps, but I don't know if that can also cause higher CO numbers.

They are discontinued so you have to be very lucky to find one, let alone a brand new never used one. Since these strut bars are rare, they command premium pricing. Ahhhhhhh! I wish I jumped on these when they were selling at BMW for less than $300 :facepalm

I tried to buy a performace intake intake that a local BMW dealre had on thier display rack... they wanted $300 for it... I was like umm no thanks..

FYI a lot of dealers have a BMW performace parts display. a lot of the items are e46... I've seen intake, rotors and strut bar at various dealers. you guys mught want to check that out... I got performane front rotors for $150 from one dealer... right off their display rack. They were more than happy to get rid of them....

Just got lucky and stumbled across someone on E46 Fanatics that had a couple. So Charlie and I snapped them up.

I wouldn't be too surprised if dealers still had them, but really hit or miss. I have also heard of some dealers asking around $1k for them. I am sure if you wait around long enough you will come across one on ebay. One Fanatic just mention he swiped one on ebay for $300. I paid more than that, but I still think it was a fair price.

Remember when the performance intakes were just $325 from ECS two months ago? They're like $700 now....

Almost done, I cut the foam underneath the hazard/door lock switch to make it sit flush. Looks much better now. I had to buy the hazard bezel and filler trim for the rear screw holes from BMW a month ago. Could not get the circular bezels to fit the rear screw holes (they are too large for the holes) and I am afraid to dremel it larger in fear of messing up the carbon fiber. All in all very happy with the end result. As for my cup holder issue for long trips, I decided I am going to pick up a vent mounted cup holder.

Thanks Prowler, but I do have one. I was just curious where you got it.

Meric, there are a few threads on the intake. You'd get about 5-7 HP increase (BMW rates it at 3-4), a slightly better throttle response, slightly better growl, mostly eye-candy. Not a lot of difference, but it helps. So, for me, $300 was worth it, considering these originally sold for around $1000.

Since I got the Arqray I have been much more conscious of how close I get to a curb. Even pulling in and out of parking lots I used to scrape my front bumper all the time. Now I make sure to pull in and out of parking lots at an angle and park at least 1ft away from parking blocks. If I can do it with coilovers, a drop and an arqray you surely can do it stock with a lip.

You'll be ok, just take your time. I've had mine apart several times. If you have the headlight washers, make sure you pinch the feed line coming out of the washer fluid reservoir on the lower right of the tank or all of the fluid will run out when you remove the nozzle assembly.

tire warranties usually pay for themselves.

Not usually in my case...I've never had an issue before. Just 1 nail (9 years ago) in 11 years of driving, and fixed that with a DIY plug kit.

I was talking to the owner of the tire shop after I bought the new tire and he was telling me that since it was so new that Continental actually would have replaced the tire under the factory warranty . He grabbed my old tire and said that he would say he sold me the ruined tire (which he didn't) and that he would have Continental drop off a new one tomorrow, and would give it to me at no charge. So....

That's excellent news!

I agree sounds like a really good shop

Absolutely. They are 45 minutes from me, but they have a new customer!

The tire was also $25-$60 cheaper than any other local shop. It was $28 more than tire rack, but that includes mount and balance.

Received a box of parts from ECS today! Got both front hubs and bearings, brake wear sensor, driver fender liner, ambient temperature sensor, both sides low beam hid rear covers, and 4 stainless rotor screws... I love getting parts! It doesn't even matter that I paid for them, just seeing them show up makes me happy!
