I was thinking of getting one of these when I overhaul my ZHPs cooling system in spring but now I don't know.....I'm beginning to think going OEM is safer...

That's what I ended up deciding. I just resigned myself to the fact that I'll be buying an oem pump every 60k.

The Stewart in theory is a good pump, I just couldn't find enough people who had put the kind of mileage on them that I needed to see to be convinced.

The lifetime warranty is great, but I'd still be unhappy if I was in Justin's shoes and was out $50 worth of coolant, a pulley, and my time.

Guys,
Unfortunately I think I was the cause of my own demise. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it because of the gains and efficiency of the pump. When I first discovered I had a leak, I noticed that my Water Pump Pulley had two of the four screws that were just kinda...there...not torqued down. The imbalance caused the internal seals to wear out at a very rapid pace. I wasn't suspecting this when I attempted the repair over Thanksgiving. The pump hasn't seized, so it's not a bearing issue. And there isn't any chance of catastrophic failure.

Ahhh. I still find it interesting that the guy in the other thread had to have two replaced for a similar issue.

Either way, I'm glad you've got it figured out. I know it's frustrating as hell chasing gremlins.

Believe you, me, I've tried to talk mom into letting me build an e30 because I don't want to spend anymore money than I have to. She's driven it and knows that the subframe bushings are all worn and the suspension needs replaced. It's a 13 year old car, but the mileage is only 116k...

When I did my bee hive grill, I did remove the bumper (with JP's technical help). Painted and re-install. After install and still under, inspected the bumber and splash shield areas. Found out that there were a lot of missing plastic fasteners and good thing I had a bunch of surplus fasteners. Now, it is all nice and tight especially the transition with both left & right wheel well and splash shields. Also, I tied down both L & R fog light cover with wire straps. Now, they will not fall off or grow legs.

Ordered the $100 Sunshade Repair Kit from BMW. I'm gonna finally get this dumb thing fixed. Wish me luck...if I can't do it, my local indy shop will be glad to.

The only thing I'm worried about is the sunshade driver. There are no instructions on how to get it out, and I've got a feeling that mine is mangled. Plus, I'd like to upgrade it to the newer, beefier driver.

Cleaned up the engine bay yesterday, checked and topped up all fluids. It was very neglected, the four T-25 screws that fasten the cabin filter tray were just stuck in the threads with two or three rotations by hand. I'm surprised the whole tray didn't fall onto the engine. I also adjusted my door handles so they open easier and then sprayed white lithium grease on all the hinges and moving parts around the car.

On your door there is a little hole you put a socket in there turn it like half a round in clockwise but if you turn it too much door handle will not work. The place of the hole is where your door connects with the lock. Ill send a picture later :)

Pop off black grommet north west of the door latch, use a 5/32 allen wrench to loosen the bolt off all the way. It won't fall out or anything. Then tighten it again until you are satisfied with how much force it takes to open your door. I used quite a bit of force while tightening the bolt and my doors open very easily now.

Well, as some of you might know.. I installed my new morimito (sp?) 5k bulbs on Friday in my car. Got in it today to go to the school library, my drivers side flickered a few times and stayed on. So of course I had to turn it off and try again. This time it flickered and burnt out. I tried readjusting it but that didn't work. I'm sure it probably burnt out but I'll switch it with the passenger side when I get home and see what happens. Needless to say, I'm not real happy right now

in reference to the ZHP and ///M badges, it came from the factory with ///M badging on the steering wheel, shifter and on the 135 wheels. i see nothing wrong with adding some subtle ///M accents elsewhere. i added the //M pedals and ///M3 dead pedal myself and i think it looks great. i too have incurred some scrapes on the underside of the front bumper. one time i pulled too far over a parking space beam. another time was exiting a garage, probably the same thing that happened to KG. you can't see the scrapes from any higher than 6" off the ground, but i know they're there and it bugs me. also, a couple of the plastic rivet screws popped out and i can't seem to get them back in. i pulled and tugged on all edges of the bumper and it's still snug as can be so i'm not to worried about them. such is life when you drive such a low car i guess.

Technical Service
This Service Information Bulletin This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B51 53 02 dated October 2002. designates changes to this revision

SUBJECT
Discoloration of Shadowline Trim

MODEL
E46 (3 Series), E60, E61 (5 Series), E64 (6 Series), E65, E66 (7 Series), E83 (X3), E53 ( X5) Equipped with Shadowline exterior trim

SITUATION
The optional glossy black Shadowline exterior trim may become discolored.

CAUSE
Analysis has determined that the discoloration is due to a film deposited on the trim which distorts the light reflecting off the trim. These deposits may come from car washes, hard water, or other environmental conditions.

CORRECTION
Deposits that cause the discoloration can be easily removed by polishing with a quality swirl removing polish, such as Meguiars #9.

Worked like a charm! Sorry, no pictures, it was very difficult to get good pictures of the hard water spots and such. I tried rubbing compound before and had no luck, but ScratchX did the trick. You really gotta put some elbow grease into it. When you're done, your trim looks amazing!

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1114786

I believe the chromiums require ballasts to power and are ccfl based, where as the orion v2's are led based. CCFL angel eyes sometimes have a hard time starting in cold weather. The chromiums have actual rings of light where as there is mild spacing for the orion v2 led angel eyes. I myself have the orion v2's and they are absolutely amazing. Just be careful not to break anything upon installation!

imola red zhp
12-16-2011, 09:35 AM
^^ correct CCFL ( Cold Cathode Florescent Light) are dated now with LED's much more efficient and stable. V2's are the standard LED or Opaque color which seems a little brighter and closer to the OEM look of the new E90's.
The V3's are the LED's that are able to change colors.

I was going to drive back home and pick up my dad from the airport, but I ended up not. It was pouring rain and the roads were as saturated as they possibly can be. My car felt unstable, and overall, I felt unsafe. The car drifted around way too easily, though it kept its track; DSC never engaged, so I was gripping the road, but something simply felt wrong compared to when it's dry. I felt that any sudden movement of my steering wheel would cause strong oversteer. I was only driving about 50 mph on the highway. So, I did the smart thing: turned around and went right back to my apartment. I called my mom and let her know that she needed to pick him up instead. I'm not going to risk wrecking my car that I worked so hard for, other peoples' cars that they worked hard for, and maybe put my dad in danger.

My rear tires are at the wear bars :( I feel unsafe in the rain. Could I do the North Carolinean thing and just get away with driving on bald tires and drive like a maniac? Sure could, but I care way too much about my safety to do that. The risk of hydroplaning is simply not worth it, and DSC isn't going to save me if I have no traction. It's definitely time for new tires. But I don't have $1,000 to spare :/

My local bimmer shop will do Continental DWS installed for $910. I absolutely will need an alignment afterwards, and I also have to do FCABs if I want an alignment that's even worth it. I'd rather get 4 new tires with 560 treadwear and a 50k treadwear warranty for $1000 than 2 new RFT tires for $700 with 140 treadwear and no warranty.

If I can do BillMeLater, I can easily get myself 4 new tires without a problem. Since it's 0% APR for 6 months, I can spread those payments out every month. No problem at all. I consider myself financially responsible enough to be able to do this. I'm going to consult with my dad to get his input on if I should do this or not. Ugh, I wish tires weren't so expensive! It's the 255/40/18 that kills me: those suckers are expensive.

Stu,
You could do the cheapo thing that I did and just get smaller size tires. My car still feels awesome with 235's all around, just FYI. Turned out to be a few hundred less for a set of 4 installed just by going to a narrower tire.

Pedal feel is the same as OEM. I was hoping it'd get a little bit better. No extra vibrations that I can tell, though I am getting this annoying creaking when going over bumps; I really hope it's not something I did. It just started doing it today, and don't know if it's brake related... :dunno

How so?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The pedal travel is the same, despite the bleeding that took place this morning. I was hoping it'd be a lot more firm like my E30 was. Even stock E30 brakes are nice and firm, and when I installed the 4-piston kit for my E30 it was unbelievably firm (if you as much as tapped the brake ever so slightly, it was BITE!).

So far, it feels almost the same as stock; it's just as soft as it was before, which is very annoying. Yes, I have bled the brakes correctly.
I did notice that the brakes bite a lot faster, but it's not a firm kind of bite; you start pushing the pedal and you can notice an ever so slight bite on the brakes, but it doesn't really do much slowing until you put more foot into it, around the same point as the OEM brakes.

It does feel like it has got a bit more grunt, but this may be the placebo effect. I don't know; I haven't had a chance to properly bed in the brakes yet (too much traffic), so I'll find that out tonight when I do some hard braking exercises for the bed-in procedure.

Huge Difference! It should be enabled by default it's such an improvement. The fogs staying on helps too.

... the previous owner had an XM Radio antenna on there for a period of time and it wasn't kind to the paint.
My PO did the same thing and it scratched the paint a bit so I moved it to the rear deck (It was also an eyesore). I had to end up replacing the antenna altogether because the weather destroyed it and it would lose signal easily.

aside from from my pulley/belt issue, i changed the PS fluid and cleaned the MAF sensor today. used Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. the fluid i removed was brown/black and looked nasty. new red fluid went in. the steering does feel better imo. then cleaned the MAF. no sweat. i wasn't expecting much, but i must say, my butt dyno says the car is noticeably faster. and to the ears it snarls more. me likey! so even though i didn't get the pulleys done, it was still a fairly productive day.

My report still stands; still not as firm as I want it. Otherwise, yes; stops very quickly!

When I went to slotted rotors all around and upgraded pads I was thoroughly disappointed with the feel and length of time to bite immediately after the install and bleeding.... however a few days later the brakes really started to bite and noticed a big difference slowing down from higher speeds. I was fortunate enough to run into a portion of the merit parkway where you are going around a 45degree bend at 75 mph to come out of the turn to a complete standstill of traffic. That is where I REALLY noticed the difference vs oem brakes, however I am still disappointed in the pedal feel. Maybe it is because like Botond my previous BMW (E36) packed a lot more bite with slotted rotors.

Interesting to see this....I too live at an apartment complex with no car washing capabilities on site but still manage to get my ZHP washed.... I live in the Providence area and am within driving distance of car wash stalls where I can use a wand to rinse off dirt or go to an actual heated car washing stall where I can hand wash my car. Sometimes it can be a real PITA but in the end its worth it for me...

Well, I left out the part where I was lazy/busy all the time and didn't have a chance to go blow 10 bucks on a car wash, haha. I have a good coat of wax on the car, so nothing was really eating away at it. It was just a bunch of nasty rain residue on the top and road grime on the side skirts/near the tires.

I can't believe it cost me 10 bucks to wash my car. It was a thorough wash: what I did was brought my own mitt and then selected the foam brush. However, instead of using the actual brush on my car (a big no-no) I just let the foam drip onto my car. I used my own mitt to scrub it. Then rinsed it off. That ate up a lot of time, so that's probably why it cost 10 bucks. Next time, I'll just use the two tokens at a time routine. Gives me two minutes to spray the car with soap. Then I can scrub it with my mitt. Then another two minutes to wash it off.

But I just found out my girlfriend's apartment complex allows bucket washing, so that will definitely come in handy.

Edit: You have heated car wash stalls that allow bucket washing?? Holy crap. Any stall that I've seen is not heated nor do they allow bucket washing. I had to be quick with the mitt so nobody would see me (as if they would do anything, anyway).

Yes at the Naval Station where I am at we have heated car wash stalls and the best part is that the guy who manages this place allows me to wash my car (bucket wash) then pull into another heated stall to wipe down, vaccum, and detail it afterwards. The overall charge for me after a few hours of work always end up at $3.00. Not bad if you ask me....I feel very fortunate to have this connection since it's impossible for me to wash my car at my apartment. Besides, with it being so cold lately (19 degrees), there's no way I would consider washing my car outside...

In my never-ending wiper blade conundrum, I went to the dealership to try and return my month-old wiper blades that are skipping like crazy. Unlike my other dealership, these guys refused to refund me or exchange them for the old-style.

Result? They gave me the old-style blades for 1/2 price. "Well here's the deal, we don't do warranties on wiper blades (contrary to what the other BMW dealership told me), but I mean I can get them to you for half off. That way I only lose a little money and you only lose a little money." Hooray. How kind of them. And then afterwards, I had to try and show them how I needed the little support clip in the wiper arm for the old blades. "Oh uh you didn't need to take that off." I pointed to the directions on the box which say to take it off. "Oh um...that's odd, I mean you don't supposed to take that clip off." So I had to pay $32 for some new blades, and I need to wait for them to ship in these two little clips for my wiper arms after I google'd for them the right part number because they couldn't seem to figure it out. I wouldn't mind if the dealership wasn't far as crap away and in the most traffic-prone area ever.

Now I've got 4 pairs of Evo Flats just sitting in my apartment. I'm trying to get rid of them, they're all almost brand-new. They seem to work fine on everyone else's car but mine. I'm selling them for $20 a pair, only a few months old each if anyone's interested :p Prepped with isopropyl alcohol, too. No residue on these blades.

I changed the oil filter housing gasket awhile ago. My oil pan gasket is leaking a small amount but I'm loosing a quart every 2000 miles. Only about less than a quarter of a quart and even less than that from the oil pan gasket and thats for one oil change every 10k. So it has to be consuming the rest. Hopefully it's going to stop or slow down a lot.

I installed my roof rack with newly added stickers thanks to my brother buying about 100 from various forums and online stores. Will post a pic when I get home from my new iPhone 4S!

Just got a bonus through work from one of our vendors that will be putting some new rubber on my car. I'm about to pull the trigger on Continental Extreme Contact DWS 225/50 R16s. Will be using the affiliate like when I make that order.

Lined up cars with Terra earlier to compare our bulbs. We had an interesting outcome. We both have the same projectors, with the same (ZKW) lenses.

Mine: Morimoto 5k
Terra: Osram 66240 CBI

Mine is on the left, terra on the right. I made the exposure very low to capture least amount of light I could because in person, you can tell his were brighter.. but on the camera, they looked almost the same.

Do like.

My friend's dad works for Bridgestone, and he's gonna check to see if the family discounts have an expiration date. If so, he's gonna give me the family discount on Bridgestone tires (which is something insane like 25-50%), and I'm gonna buy some Ponteza RE760s. If not, he's saving it for himself.
