Can anybody point me in the direction of a prior worthwhile string on replacing my side view electrochromatic mirrors that are browning at the edges. Is this a job that can be done by oneself with a little help from eBay? If no prior strings, any advice from anyone experienced with this hopefully not too difficult repair. Many thanks.

I actually wouldn’t mind doing this as well, mine are starting to do the same

The guy does a phenomenal job. And, if you pay a tiny bit extra ($20), he'll lifetime warranty it as well. Standard warranty is 1 year.
I had mine rebuilt 3 years ago and it's still perfect.

Are your side mirrors dimmable? Was that a thing on the e46?

If not, then eBay is slam full of heated glass options. I love the convex glass for the spatial awareness. No blind spots.

If it's your interior rear view mirror that's failing, then it can be repaired via BP's link or replaced with an e90+ mirror that will never leak. I have a few in the garage if you need one.

Oh sorry I totally misread the original post; I thought he was referring to the rear view glass. Missed the "side" part.

OP,
E46's did not have dimming side mirrors. They brown because the seal eventually breaks and water gets inside, reacting with the tint inside the glass.
The solution is replacement.

If you want aspherical side mirrors, I recommend the Dub Stop Imports ones; they are affordable and have held up very well for me so far. The Genuine BMW ones are insanely expensive (over $200), though they're a slightly better quality.

If you want standard convex mirrors, then... you can get that anywhere, really.

I have been happy with my OriginalEuro (https://originaleuro.com/collections/bmw/products/bmw-e46-2d-euro-mirror-glasses-blue-heated-aspheric-convex) replacements. Link is to coupe/vert version.

Fit E46 M3 mirrors?

yes they fit m3 mirrors BUT if you have retrofitted m3 mirrors with ribbon cable motors you MAY have to extend the heated wire connections. some of those mirrors have the heated connections in a different place further away than your ribbon cable connectors can reach. just get some small MALE spade connectors with wire and then small female spade connectors to connect to the mirror terminals
