Well, I bought another ZHP. It looks like a nice car overall. Just needs a lot of love and labor, some maintenance performed, deep cleaning the interior and inspecting engine to determine if it can be saved or needs replacement. Previous owner took intake plenum off to replace and ran out of time, money and desire to fix.

I intend to document everything done and plan to offer the car for sale. If anyone is interested in the car as I progress or when I feel it is completed please contact me about purchasing.

I started fiddling with the car today in between the constant rain we’ve had lately.

I found some new replacement oem headlight lenses and oem bmw performance gloss black grills in my stash.

Also, some fog light trim/surrounds.

And did a very half hearted attempt at polishing hood to see if it going to have luster and depth once really worked on.

And did a quick clean on the drivers door interior panel. I remember why I dislike light colored interiors...even after cleaning, it still looks dirty to me.

Our MDX has a grey interior... needless to say with twin boys, it looks like crap... that door panel looks good though...

Washed car. Ran clay bar over every panel and window. Washed car again. They some wax. It’s starting to shine and bead water. Paint no longer feels like a scrubbing pad.

I won’t attempt any real paint correction until everything mechanical is done.

The grey is def my least fav

Rob, I really would have liked to have had my Pilot in the pretty blue color. But it was only avail w grey. I insisted on black interior. That left me with black, white or silver as the only color choices. Black is also a fav...so, we all know what happened there

So frustrating that they only have those combinations. Our gray interior was pre-trashed by the previous owner... we were ok with that because we knew we'd trash it anyway. So nice to not have to worry about keeping it clean. We use it like a pickup truck

Ditto here, Kristen got me a buffer and all the stuff to do it probably 5 years ago by now. I was going to experiment on the old Honda Accord winter beater we had back then but she sold it before I got a chance. I'll have to hit up the MDX with it one of these days. It's kinda hard to screw up silver... I hope :)

I replaced the windshield trim and cleaned under it. It likely was the original. There was a ton of sludge and cosmoline. Also started cleaning engine compartment

I changed the valve cover gaskets and the little round seals the each VC nut sits in. Everything was dried out and leaking. Installed new spark plugs. And cleaned/scrubbed all the caked in oil and dirt I could find on that side.

In the gray interior. My last boat had a white and red interior and looked good perfectly clean but, like sh... when not. What I found and used was “ Spray 9 Marine”. The stuff is amazing at removing black mold that’s common on a boat.

It may be a little difficult with a car, as it needs heavy water rinsing and cannot sit to long.

Front of engine all refreshed. Just need to install new AC tensioner and belt. Then new radiator, expansion tank and hoses.

The one that failed on the daughters car was caused by metal fatigue in the web area.

I’ll do these as preventative maintenance from here on out.

You did do the oil filter housing gasket while it is all open? Was that with the oem gasket or the Viton One?

Agreed, I had two failures back in the day when I first started playing with superchargers. I did a new oem gasket. I want the car maintained and ready for a new owner and not doing things for a long haul personal use.

I took the brackets off the air pump. Stripped to bare metal and applied POR15. Then painted. New hardware. Cleaned up pump. Reinstalled everything.

The reason the PO took things apart. Engine backfired and broke the intake at the seams. And, in a hamfisted effort broke all kinds of parts.

Mine used to look like that. I sprayed some 303 Aerospace Protectant on it while I was working on some other stuff and let it soak in for ~10 minutes before wiping off. Repeated 4-5 times and it looked like new plastic.

Did not work for the cowl tho :(

It seems to be a common enough issue if you google it or look at old threads on e46.

No tune. Stock car. Supposedly it’s from leaky injectors

Just installed the new MAF and fuel filter on ZHP. The car runs great. Drove it around for about 30min with no tags. But, it really makes me realize how damn powerful and fast the wagon is. HUGE difference.

i think i need to change the fuel filter on my zhp wagon.

i'm still using the original 250k fuel filter from the old 2.5 liter setup.

I keep getting a pending CODE P0174 system lean bank 2. but its not a full code yet and wont trigger a CEL.

im trying to get my emissions into ready and Catalyst is the only thing t hat wont set even after an hour long drive @ 55mph for drive cycle testing.

im thinking its this system too lean condition and i read online that someone had good luck with changing the fuel filter out to resolve it which makes sense if the filter is clogged/dirty causing a lean condition.

New control arm bushings. The others were ripped.

I’m a little bothered, the front control arms aren’t the oem zhp arms, they are Meyle HD. I’m assuming not the same quality????Meyle HD's are garbage bushings. I had both sides fail on me within 30k miles when I tried them. The Meyle control arms (ball joints) also failed.

Engine done except for the broken injector cover. Whom ever took things apart must have ripped it off instead of removing the little covers and ten mm bolts.

Front splash guard and engine pan/support/whatever reinstalled. Lots of cakes on oil and cosmoline was built up.

Working on brakes

Fluid flush. New rotors (old were so rusty and pitted). New pads. And freshening the calipers and carriers. Straightened dust shields ground off and spots of rust and resprayed in flat black.

I’ll have to drop diff. It leaks really bad at the rear cover. I can clean off fresh fluid and then watch it get wet within a few hours.

Various. If I can get the parts through World Pac then that’s the source. All products are OE. If used, I get them from various sources. Some through Amazon. And BMW or Silver Spring (getbmwparts.com)

Dear lord. Let me get lucky. Three bolts on diff cover were loose. I really hope that was source of leak. The diff was damn near dry inside. Opened drain plug and nothing came out. Degreased. Scrubbed and Cleaned the case, rear cover, spare tire well, sway bar etc. filled with fresh redline and placed clean paper towel on floor under diff. That was probably it. Both of my zhp's have leaked a bit from the diff and I just tightened the bolts. That's why they started redoing them with a bead of permatex instead of the gasket that slowly deteriorates.

You’re usually in touch with the market.

The car will be ready to go mechanically - as you can tell, I’m going through the car and trying to make it turn key, ready to go, reliable

No rust

Small dent in passenger front door

Front bumper is completely intake but a bump indent on passenger front corner and typical splitter curb scratches

Interior is grey (yuck) and hopefully clean in my next round of efforts

New tires

And paint has some fading on roof (likely a buff will bring back) and various light scratches all around

Thoughts on price?

Cleaned center console pieces. Replaced the center piece with astray, etc with a spare I had sitting in a box. Cleaned and scrubbed the carpet under and around the center console. Scrubbed the armrest for about 45min to remove grime in the training of material.

Also, the nav screen that came in the car had weird wear marks or dead pixels. I replaced it with the unit from my touring.

First round of cleaning carpets. Simple Oxy-Clean/Tide and hot water mixture. I’ll see if something stronger will work on those stains.

Test clean before doing entire cushion. In this case, I think most of it is from clothing. Although it wipes off in a brownish grey.

Drivers regulator on zhp installed (came with car - didn't work previously). Passenger door regulator removed. Waiting on replacement. Lol

Ironically- the drivers regulator for black car just came in. And, the way the other three crunch...I wouldn't be surprised if there in the way out soon

Nah. Same engine as the 325 sedan/coupe. They're heavier and therefore slower.

Using BMW listed specifications and only using 325 manual with no options:

A manual 325Ci Coupe weights 3197 lbs.

A manual 325i Sedan weights 3219 lbs. 22lbs. more than a coupe.

A manual 325iT Wagon weights 3362 lbs. 143lbs. more than a sedan.

A manual 325Ci Convertible weights 3560 lbs. 198lbs. more than a wagon.

Automatic Transmission adds 88 lbs.It's all relative. My middle-of-the-road ZHP (when I bought it) weighed 3310 pounds. It all depends on options, spare/no spare, weight of fuel in the tank, etc.

I’ve been considering it lately. The problem is how to price it. Obviously I have a shit ton of $$$ in it. But no one will pay even half of what I think is in the car.

I’ve considered parting it out and then selling as a fairly stock car with wide body.

I’d even be willing to offer the options a la carte
