Just picked up my first BMW, a 2004 330i ZHP Imola sedan 6 spd. 164k on it when I bought it in DC, 166k now.

Doing some research, it appears that it's Larry's (http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?19615-Lorenzo-s-Imola-sedan-Project) (Lorenzo) car that he sold last fall. My wife and I flew out Thurs, met the owner, bought it and took it on an 1800 mi shakedown run home to Albuquerque after a quick detour to visit my son, daughter-in-law and grandson in Ann Arbor. Got in yesterday evening without incident.

The Good:

- Everything that Larry did last year before he sold it :)

The Bad:

- Needs rear tires, the PSS's were almost to the wear bars when we left DC, fortunately we only hit some brief rain in MI
- Sunshade clips are broken
- Suspect the DISA valve is toast, absolutely gutless below 3 grand, will confirm upon removal and inspection
- Has the high oil consumption issue (took 2 qts to bring it up to the add mark when I bought it, oil level idiot light works but wasn't lit so hopefully no damage was done), sucks a qt every 700-800 mi, no leaks, looking at one of the fix-it kits from G.A.S as a hopeful, permanent solution
- Passenger-side front door window motor is toast
- Passenger-side rear door top molding clips broken
- Trunk latch will not release via the fob or remote unlock button by the drivers leg. Works fine when unlocked with physical key

All in all, not a bad car though, very entertaining to drive and overall I'm happy with the purchase.

Thanks all.

I call it the rescue car. As in, I rescued it from the PO who, apparently, didn't feel it necessary to do any maintenance other than an oil change back in Feb and then let it get 2 qts below the add mark...

It now lives in the annoyingly dry, rust-free desert southwest. No snow, no road salt, no ocean moisture.

Will attempt to upload a couple pics later.

No sh!t, right? Stopped every hour after Amarillo to check for exposed cords and delaminating. Good thing it wasn't raining

Anyone have any opinion or experience with the G.A.S CCV eliminator/repair kit?

It works great from what I've heard. We have a thread on it and so do other forums. Still pretty new though.

Nice car! Leather or Alcantara interior? Not a fan of cloth myself but it’s a pretty common interior with Imola. Imola has really grown on me as well and your car is no exception! Congratulations on your purchase and enjoy the wealth of knowledge on the forums!

Alcantara.

I wasn't in the market for an Imola either, but yes, it's grown on me as well.

Thanks for the link to Larry's original thread. I haven't tried PMing him but, if anyone should bump into Larry please let him know that the car is in good hands and I've adjusted the parking brake and new clips and guides are on order for the annoyingly broken sunroof shade ( both items were on his to-do list)

Found time last week to get new rubber mounted on the rears, rebuilt the DISA valve with a kit from GAS (even though it looked fine anyway), installed a GAS 1.2b coolant cap and adjusted the parking brake. Sunroof shade repair parts and new right front window regulator are on order. A new lower grille that Larry had purchased but never installed and was included with the sale (since the PO hadn't installed it either), is now installed :)

Pulled both headlights to inspect the reflector bowls and troubleshoot a stuck right-side shutter. Typical of the ZKW's, both are burnt and cracked through. Shutter solenoid is dead but, fortunately, stuck in low-beam position. Considering a ZKW Retro-Qwik kit with Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0 projectors and Nightbreaker bulbs from Lightwerkz. $242 shipped. Anyone have a suggestion on anything different or better?
