All,

With moving into the new house, I need to figure out new car ramps. The garage has a nice sealant on it which is great however I think it is causing my homemade wooden ramps to move. I have been looking at RhinoRamps as a potential solution

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0117EETEK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

What are others using or could recommend? Thanks!

Quickjack

While that's a really cool system, that is not in my budget at this point.

Those rhino ramps will not work on a lowered vehicle. ( lowered on h&r sport springs ) Front Bumper would not clear the ramp so ended up jacking up the car using the jack points and putting them under the tires then lowering the car on them ( defeats the purpose of being able to drive onto them )

Race Ramps might work but they are expensive ( ramps or the blocks )

Quick jack is the next best thing but expensive.

I have looked at rhino ramps, but the reviews scare me. It doesn't seem like it would be worth the risk. Race ramps seem to be the quality option, but at a much higher price.

I know I could trawl through various sites for your reasons, but what about Rhinos scares you? I've been using them for a long time.

Race Ramp is great for general maintenance for the ZHP and girlfriend's TDI.

I personally hate jacking up the car and will be looking into getting a Quickjack this year.

My 330ci also has clearance issues with the Rhino Ramps. I use them for my Honda Element and they work fine but do have a tendency to want to slide/move even with their rubber foot.

I have a set something like that. They work great.

Though I do hope to upgrade to this once I get my new garage built (and paid for...).

The reviews on Amazon with the ramps cracking

My parents have had a pair of rhino ramps for maybe 15 years that I still use. When I got the ZHP I wasn't able to drive up the ramps anymore because they were too tall for the car. So I just jack up the car on one side, slide the rhino ramp under it and I'm good to go. No issues with cracking after over a decade of use.

Maybe they started sourcing their production to China and things got kinda cheap at some point who knows.

If I had the money (or even a garage) I would opt for something like the quick jack like Shawn posted because of how easy to use an unobtrusive it is.

A full complete lift would be the holy grail but I guess it depends on how much wrenching you will do if its worth it or not.

I have a lift. I don't wrench much anymore. But every time I use it, I think it's worth it. Mines only half height, but that's good enough.

But I've used Race Ramps before. I like them. They feel solid and they are light. I've been using wood though because I had a bunch leftover, so it didn't cost me anything. But they get messed up by moisture unlike the Race Ramps.

Just watching the 135 go on a lift today to peek under it I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Still an investment, but anyone serious about car ownership can probably justify it in the long run, even a half lift. Get a rolly chair!

I bought Rhino Ramps from Auto Zone, made sure to get the ones that were rated for higher GVW. only used them once so can't speak to quality/longevity but they got the job done for a basic oil change.

+1 on the Race Ramps and the QuickJack system. The race ramps are very durable, perfectly sized, and tend not to slip. On the QuickJack, I went with the 7,000 lb model, and it's perfect, too (not too heavy IMO).

Yeah for me. It's when I'm doing some sort of DIY that requires pulling/shaking something and the car is like moving like crazy. I'm always wondering how the hell I did this with the car on jack stands and didn't die lol

Just the other day I was telling JR that one my friends was working on his car on jack stands (happened awhile back) and told me to come by to help. The car was already jacked up and he was already under there and working. Then I heard like an eerie sound like something was going to break. I just grabbed his legs and pulled lol Then the car fell. I forgot what happened, but I think it was the plastic jack pad broke and the weight shifted. Ever since then, I swear it traumatized me lol Even with my lift now. I make sure that shit is good before I go under there lol

Shit man that's terrifying. Glad you were able to save your buddy.

This is one reason I like using the rhino ramps instead of jack stands because the wheels are touching a stable surface instead of being held up in the air. You can even leave the jack holding some of the weight as extra precaution.

You can shove the car around all you want while it's on the quickjack though. It's stable af.
