Anyway you plan to enable SSL on the forums?
LetsEncrypt offers free certificates (catch is the require 90days renewal but should be fairly simple with CertBot)

Pictures helps? With Chrome and other browsers now suggesting "NOT SECURE" on HTTP websites, its probably a good thing to move to SSL :)

Ha. I do understand what ssl is (port 443/https...) just not sure how Dane gets there from here.

You maybe able to ask them how to setup letsencrypt for you? Who actually manages the webserver itself?

Safari 11.1 now warn users they are going on unsecured websites.

These are relatively cheap.
I'm not 100% if leaseweb works with LetsEncrypt (free but requires renewal every 90days).
