I have seen these short shifters that look pretty interesting and I was wondering if anyone has tried one in their daily? They are pretty expensive but I can see the advantage of the position for motorsport driving. Just wondering how its like when using it everyday...

ha, yep... i do!

i've got the RTD 300mm 'mini' non-reverse lockout shifter, which accepts a factory shift knob. it is, in my opinion, the best option for a street car as you don't have to hack up the console like with the CAE/samsonas/etc shifters. it's not obnoxiously tall, either. i should try to get a little video together of it in action.

it is stiff to change gears when you're putting around town, but when you're actually driving it - it's a beautiful thing.

on top of all of that... their customer service is spectacular (small company) and it's priced at about half of the CAE.

That actually looks really cool. I don't know if I would install one in my car, but I would love to drive it and find out.

i was just thinking... i really don't have any way of doing this nicely since i don't have a GoPro or a mount for my phone or anything. hmmm. might have to recruit my son to do it. :)

Can I also bug you to take a pic from the back seat going forward? I am wondering where the knob sits in relation to radio and climate control.

I guess after all the crap your wife has endured, that would be out of the question without some kind of bribe :)

Peterman - open lift gate, fold rear seats down, zoom a bit and take the pic. It'll give less distortion and a better representation of the knob height.

bruhhh apparently my plane took off like an hour before all that mess started on Friday and they had to ground flights. sorry to leave you with that but hella glad I escaped back to 80F.

i'll try that, thanks.... although my pocket-lint-encrusted iPhone SE lens pretty much sucks taking any photo, so i can't promise anything. :)

i've asked mike @ coby wheel to make me a custom boot that is about 2.5" taller than a normal boot... so the idea is it will look 'normal' upon first glance. ;)

Sorry man - been really busy. No video yet, however I did get my custom tall alcantara shift boot installed this morning from mike at coby wheel. He did a great job and after some finessing with a rubber grommet under the top of the boot to make everything look right with my E90 M Sport knob.... it looks great! I am super happy with how it came out.

Here’s some pics... the second one shows the true height (I verified pic vs reality ;)):
