For those looking, I found some available gloss black kidneys in the most unlikely place:

I still don't regret buying my ultra cheap $20 gloss black grills from eBay though. They fit fine I just had to cut a small tab off where they poured the plastic into the mould.

Sent from my Nexus 5X using TapatalkThere are no OE gloss black kidneys for that price. Anything less than $100 if new is surely aftermarket.
Not sure on the quality of these.

I have been having a conversation with IND about doing some custom sets.
Black Chrome OEM Painted grills. They are $295 for them to do them. Here is a set they did for a clients e46 M3 but they will do mine a bit darker.

Yes.
They are using brand new OEM 330i chrome cores and then painting them in house with a black chrome finish. I have dealt with IND's work on my E90 M3 as well as E46 M3 and they stand behind their product and quality.
I ordered a set of these $39 ones for now. If they don't fit well I will have IND do a custom set for me.

Not really an IND cost. Just true cost of producing a quality product.
Even cheap body work is $70/hr for labor (prep/paint), the grills are probably $115/set, mix in cost of materials it's really not that expensive.

...mix in cost of materials it's really not that expensive.
But they're just grills... I'm just saying they're incredibly expensive compared to what else is available, especially considering they don't do anything functional.
All you really need is a used set of grilles, some spray paint and clear, various pieces of sandpaper, and some time to put in for a quality sanding, painting, and clearing job. It's worth the extra time to put in to save a couple of hundred dollars.

Man, ECS used to have great grills (I bought a set 2 years ago). They're great and $60... but I can't find the facelift ones anymore... they're gloss-black plastic; no paint to chip or fade.
Pre-facelift...

Anyone tried these gloss grills off ebay? Are they decent or a no-go?

the only place on ebay that even has one or 2 is when things are posted from Latvia or Lithuania. they never post a picture, just a description and part # and last time i checked they only had a passenger side and then sold it. ive been checking by part # and description on ebay and google daily and have not seen a fill pair OR the rare passenger side one thats missing.
ECS has the left side
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/bmw-performance-gloss-black-kidney-grille-left/51132158543/
but no one has the right side
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/bmw-performance-gloss-black-kidney-grille-right-no-longer-available/51132158542/
anyways i was obsessing over the Performance BMW version so much but ended up just going Charlies Route of the Avin grills and man they are great.
perfect fitment, no movement and the gloss is beautiful. at $39 its a no brainer.
i ordered at like 12 midnight and they were shipped the next day from California.

You guys didn't have to do any modifications to make those Avin (repackaged ebay grilles) sit good? I bought a set of gloss black grilles from amazon here on the recommendation of another poster but had to dremel away quite a bit of plastic on the driver side grille where the hood latch is to get it to fit. Still not 100% happy.
Are the Avin grills pure gloss black?

I guess this isn't my month for getting what I order; On the heels of my Modbargains disappointment I ordered a set of these grilles in gloss black. I got an email a few minutes later saying they shipped, then another email in the afternoon saying the order got cancelled... WTF?
I contacted Avin and they said the label was automatically created, but when they went to pull it off the shelf and box it for shipping, they realized they were out of stock.:(
They're hopefully going to email me when they're back in stock.

Appears it's an automated system, which would explain why my shipping label was created and email sent without checking stock.

For those of you that have these are they plug and play without any dremel modifications?

No dremel required. They snap in place just like the OEM grills. Once installed they are snug... the ones I received from AVIN are not loose.

When did you order them?
I’ve been emailing the folks at Avin for about 4 weeks, asking when they expect to get new gloss grilles in stock, because they told me about 6 weeks ago they would have more in 2-3 weeks. Haven’t heard a peep from them so I assumed they haven’t refilled stock. :mad
Guess I’d better call before they run out again.
ps: they do look darn good!

Thanks. Trust me, you want these. Keep sending your emails. I got mine at the end of March. I must have ordered one of their last sets.
I had oem gloss grills on my e92. They felt like crap compared to these. They’re solid not flimsy. They almost feel like they’re one solid piece. I know that sounds weird.
