So my friend stops by last week with the E36 that his nanny drives and tells me that something sounds really bad with the front wheels. The nanny neglected to tell anyone that there was a hee-haw horrendous grinding coming from the front end.
I can hear right away that something is horribly wrong with the passenger front wheel. I pull the tire and am shocked to see that the inboard brake pad is gone-- just metal on metal-- and it was driven that way for so long that it had ground the inside of the rotor down by several millimeters. We're talking like beyond dangerous.
So we ordered up some rotors and pads from ECS, and I did the job today. Figured I'd share some pics so everyone could share in my disbelief:
Check out THAT lip!

Comparison with drivers side rotor. Look how far it's ground down.

Oh, and to add to the fun, I snapped my 6mm hex head socket getting the rotor hat screw out AND the passenger caliper was seized.
A real fun fest!
