Hi Everyone:
This is Jack. I picked this car up in late May at a used car lot in Phoenix, AZ with 130k miles one it, after I did a PPI and multiple price negotiations. I was not planning to buy but I've been looking for fun online for some time and this ZHP just happened to show up locally. The underlying chassis of the car was very mechanically sound and nothing imminent needed fixing, so I could not pass up on it even though it needed lots of small to moderate amount of routine repair work at the 10 year mark that I'm familiar with . My prior car was a much older 2000 e46 coupe (that I owned for over 16 years) which had its engine crippled after the car hit road debris at night and it was not economical to fix.
This is my replacement daily driver and automatic which I wanted (for the unpaved, aged city streets we have here in Phoenix). I've put 1,000 miles on it over 3 weeks. I love the reliability of the E46, the telegraphic steering , the mechanics of it, revving the inline engine for power, being closer to the road feel, and the minimal electronics. This is going to be a fun project over the next 12 months to re-hab the car to a sporty DD, a little bit at a time. I will do some DIY that I can get my hands to, but the indy shop will do the heavy stuff. I'll have questions on how to fix stuff but here are some of what I've done.
Replaced or Re-touch:
Oil all interior leather seats and plastic dashboard
Engine air filter
Cabin air filter
Hood insulation
NGK sparkplugs
Next up:
Oil change
Paint touch-up
